This study investigates the interplay between carbon intensity, renewable energy consumption, and SDG 8–De-cent Work and Economic Growth in the MINT countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkey) over 2000–2023, encompassing pre-, during-, and post-COVID-19 periods. Employing a multi-method empirical strategy, the analysis combines Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (PARDL) within the Pooled Mean Group framework, country-level Fixed Effects (FE) estimation, and Method-of-Moments Quantile Regression (MM-QR) to capture short-and long-run dynamics, country-specific heterogeneity, and distributional effects. Results reveal marked heterogeneity across countries and periods. Long-run PARDL estimates indicate that GDP per capita and carbon intensity are primary drivers of SDG 8, while energy use and renewable energy exert nuanced effects. COVID-19 interactions highlight that both carbon-intensive and renewable sectors temporarily stabilised employment and growth. FE and MM-QR results show Mexico and Turkey benefited from positive linkages between renewable energy adoption and SDG 8, whereas Indonesia and Nigeria faced weaker or negative associations, reflecting structural and policy constraints. Quantile analyses further demonstrate that lower-performing economies are more vulnerable to the adverse effects of carbon-intensive activities and less able to translate renewable energy invest-ments into decent work gains. Structural break tests confirm the pandemic as a regime-shifting event, altering the impact of growth, energy use, and carbon intensity on SDG 8. This study contributes to the literature by integrating dynamic, country-specific, and distributional perspectives on the energy–growth–employment nexus, providing actionable insights for policies that promote inclusive, low-carbon, and resilient economic development in MINT economies.

The aim of the article is to analyse the theoretical, technical, and economic potential of agrophotovoltaic (APV) installations in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship (Poland) based on climatic data, agricultural land resources, and technological simulations. The specific aim of the study was to determine the theoretical, geographical, technical and economic potential of APV installations in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship based on climate data, land-use structure and technological simulation results. The study shows that the annual energy production of the designed APV installation may reach 454–560 [MWh/ha], which, when using less than 1% of agricultural land, could fully meet the total electricity demand of farms in the analysed region. This indicates a high potential for integrating agriculture and energy production within the same area. The main limitation for the development of solar energy is the insufficient capacity of the existing power grid, which is not adapted to new renewable energy sources. The economic analysis confirms the profitability of APV investments in the context of rising energy prices and highlights their potential role in producing green hydrogen and supporting renewable energy development in Poland. The conclusions emphasise the need to modernise the energy infrastructure and introduce legislative changes to unlock the APV potential in Poland.

This work presents a thermodynamic analysis of a six-stroke cycle implemented in Spark-Ignition (SI) engines. The cycle configuration comprises two distinct combustion phases: (1) initial combustion of a methane-hydrogen mixture under fuel-lean conditions (λ > 1), yielding exhaust gases containing residual oxygen, followed by (2) secondary hydrogen injection during the expansion phase to facilitate complete utilization of the remaining oxidizer. The investigation evaluates the system's thermodynamic performance through parametric variation of both the fuel composition (methane/hydrogen, CH4/H2 ratio) and the equivalence ratio during primary combustion. The results obtained indicate that the changes in the peak temperature of the second part of the cycle are small, up to 60 K relative to the mean value. The fuel mixture with λ = 3.0 showed the highest cycle efficiency at 50.73%, indicating the best performance among all cases. According to the data, better performance can be achieved by optimizing cycle parameters such as regeneration, intercooling, pressure ratios, and component efficiencies in addition to raising the maximum temperature. In conclusion, better outcomes are not always guaranteed by higher temperatures. Increasing thermal input alone is not as important as designing and optimizing cycles efficiently.

Environmental and climatic challenges necessitate careful consideration and strategic planning regarding the materials and techniques employed across all sectors. To reduce the depletion of non-renewable resources and to improve and achieve sustainable development, researchers have recently become interested in the trend of using bio-based materials as alternative resources in numerous fields. Given that the construction sector poses the main threat to environmental balance due to its high consumption of raw materials, such as fine and coarse aggregates widely used to create different concrete, and energy resources, particularly for building ventilation and cooling, this study aims to use acorn cupule (AC) waste as a low-cost and renewable lightweight bio-aggregate to develop green lightweight flowable sand concrete (FSC) with high insulation properties. Since such organic materials have a negative impact on concrete's mechanical performance, a heat treatment was applied to this AC aggregate to enhance its surface properties. For this purpose, the natural sand was volumetrically substituted with raw and heat-treated acorn cupule aggregates (RAC and HAC) at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50% in FSC. The results showed that incorporating RAC aggregates decreased the concrete’s workability compared to the control one. The density, compressive strength, and flexural strength were reduced by up to 50%, 84%, and 68%, respectively, while the thermal conductivity was improved by approximately 24–89%. The heat treatment of RAC aggregates enhanced FSC flowability; reduced water absorption, reducing concrete porosity by 25%; and significantly improved the compressive and flexural strength by up to 41% and 45%, respectively. However, a slight decline in thermal performance was recorded. Finally, with up to 30% RAC and 40% HAC, AC was proven to be a highly recommended ecological alternative to natural aggregates in the concrete industry for developing lightweight-insulating-structural FSC.

Biodiesel is a promising renewable energy carrier, providing a sustainable alternative to conventional petroleum diesel. Produced primarily through the transesterification of oils and fats into fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), biodiesel offers several environmental and performance advantages, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, carbon neutrality, biodegradability, and a higher cetane number. Despite its technical feasibility and established commercial applications, large-scale adoption is constrained by production costs, feedstock limitations, and fuel property challenges such as cold flow behaviour. This review consolidates current knowledge on biodiesel production with a particular focus on the role of feedstocks, technological methodologies, and process equipment. This review work compares edible and non-edible vegetable oils, animal fats, waste oils, and microalgae with respect to their advantages, limitations, and sustainability profiles. Production techniques—including base-catalysed transesterification, acid esterification, supercritical alcohol processes, and thermochemical routes—have been critically examined alongside reactor designs, separation units, and purification systems. The review also highlights quality testing standards such as ASTM D6751 and EN 14214, which govern biodiesel commercialization. The findings of this research work suggest that future development of biodiesel depends on diversifying sustainable feedstocks, advancing catalysts and reactor technologies, and integrating cost-effective waste valorization strategies. This work finally concludes with the observation that biodiesel can become a cornerstone in achieving low-carbon transport systems supporting the global transition to renewable energy.

Shipping is one of the major sources of greenhouse gas emissions; therefore, immediate actions must be taken in the field of sustainable development. This study focuses on exploring the use of renewable energy to mitigate emissions and enhance energy efficiency on board ships. Hence, technologies for capturing, utilizing, and storing solar, wind, and carbon energy are investigated. Further, the study weighs these approaches in terms of benefits, drawbacks, and potential application in sustainable maritime operations. To quantify the practicability of the solutions analyzed, an interdisciplinary approach intertwining feasibility analysis, simulation modeling, and policy evaluation is used. Topics discussed include technological barriers, economic barriers, and regulatory frameworks. It also highlights recent advances with great environmental potential in shipping, such as hybrid propulsion systems and fuel cell technologies. The results showed that the hybrid systems with renewable energy combined with CCUS can reduce CO₂ emissions from ships up to 90%, which, in the best case, simultaneously imparts an increased operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. The study therefore examined regulatory and policy options that could facilitate the transition to renewable energy in this sector, and the industrial application of these technologies is thus presented as a key stage in environmentally sustainable development.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to develop a forecast for electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES) in Poland using predictive methods based on an approximating function. The study is situated within the broader context of the energy transition and the growing importance of RES in both national and EU policy agendas. Design/methodology/approach: The study employs a quantitative approach based on statistical data from the Central Statistics Office (GUS) for the years 2008-2024 concerning photovoltaic energy production. The primary forecasting method is a trend function, approximated and transformed into a linear form through logarithmisation. The parameters of the power function were estimated, and the accuracy of the forecast was assessed using the coefficient of determination, mean residual error, and the coefficient of variation of residuals. Findings: The results obtained indicate a clear upward trend in photovoltaic energy production, with a projected output of 31,219 GWh by 2028. The coefficient of convergence (0.0244) demonstrates a high degree of consistency between the empirical data and the theoretical model. The findings confirm the dynamic growth of the RES sector in Poland and the increasing interest of enterprises in investing in green energy. Research limitations/implications: The photovoltaic sector has been expanding year on year, despite facing challenges such as grid connection refusals and administrative constraints. These issues primarily affect large-scale photovoltaic farms, which are frequently curtailed by the Transmission System Operator during periods of high productivity due to the limited flexibility of the grid. Energy storage systems, when integrated with large PV installations, offer a potential solution - contributing to grid stability and ensuring reliable delivery of green energy. A limitation of the study lies in the variability of weather conditions that influence solar energy production, introducing uncertainty into the forecasts. The article highlights the need for further research on integrating forecasting models with grid management systems, as well as incorporating energy storage solutions. Future analyses could extend the model to include other renewable energy sources (such as wind or biogas). Practical implications: The study provides forecasting tools for businesses and policymakers, supporting investment planning in the energy sector. The results may be applied in the development of long-term energy procurement strategies (e.g. Power Purchase Agreements), grid modernisation, and the liberalisation process of the RES market. The forecasts also contribute to cost optimisation and improved energy security. Social implications: The development of RES contributes to improved air quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, positively affecting public health. Promoting green energy may influence social attitudes towards climate responsibility and enhance environmental awareness. The research findings may also inform public policy in the areas of decarbonisation and climate protection. Originality/value: The article offers original value by developing an accurate predictive model of photovoltaic energy production in Poland based on a power function. It provides practical tools for businesses, analysts, and energy policymakers, supporting the advancement of a low-emission economy. Furthermore, it constitutes a significant contribution to the literature on energy transition in both the Polish and EU contexts.

Due to the continuous increase in fuel consumption in the transportation sector and the related environmental issues, such as climate change and energy depletion, there is a pressing need to research, develop, and implement more sustainable modes of transportation. This study assesses the expected environmental implications of the penetration of electric motorcycles in the Australian market. For this purpose, the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to be produced by motorcycles during the next 15 years were determined by developing relevant ARIMA and exponential smoothing prediction models and using different scenarios (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% electric motorcycles penetration). Moreover, this study considered the future contribution of renewable energy to electricity sources. The results showed that the continuous dependence on the internal combustion engine motorcycle (ICEM), as a two-wheeled mode of transportation, can lead to a considerable increase in GHG emissions and fossil fuel consumption in the long term, and in this case, the expected increase in GHG emissions could be around 40% from 2020-2040. Meanwhile, the partial substitution of ICEMs with electric motorcycles at a percentage of more than 25% by 2040 could lead to substantial GHG emissions reductions. With EM penetration rates of 50% and 75%, the corresponding fall in GHG emissions would be 44.56% and 66.84%, respectively. Meanwhile, a complete replacement of ICEMs with electric motorcycles could lead to an 89.12% reduction in GHG emissions by 2040.

The efficiency and reliability of offshore wind farms are significantly influenced by their maintenance strategies. Effective maintenance coordination is crucial to minimize downtime and consequently maximize reliability. This paper proposes a methodology for integrating multivariate stochastic models into the maintenance scheduling process of offshore wind farms, enabling a more data-driven approach. The proposed framework accounts for the temporal and spatial dependencies of wind variations to optimize maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruptions to energy production using the Expected Energy Not Supplied (EENS) indicator. We validate our approach using case studies that demonstrate its effectiveness through a sensitivity analysis. The results highlight more than 6% deviations in the EENS estimate for scenarios with the same conditions, where the only difference is the wind speed simulation approach. The change in approach impacts the overall allocation of maintenance activities to offshore wind farms.

The demand for energy and associated services is increasing daily to keep pace with social and economic development as well as to improve people's well-being and health by theusage of green energy. While the world is racing to secure the increasing energy needs through renewable energy, Syrians have increasingly turned to solar power to meet basic electricity needs due to the collapse of the national grid. The trend towards benefiting from renewable energy sources began in Syria to escape the fuel scarcity that the Syrian state faced with the beginning of the war in 2011 as the economic sanctions on the Syrian government were set and many of the power stations were sabotaged. Lack of fuel, electricity and the unbearable prices of gas because of the sanctions have led to new inventions and new ways to invest in regenerative energies sources in some ways to avoid living in a dark and cold world. This article aims to show how in wartime conditions, the use of solar energy can reduce some of the challenges. And allow citizens to pursue a normal life. Also, the study highlights the challenges and opportunities of solar energy adoption in Homs, demonstrating its potential to improve living conditions in war-torn areas.

The National Power System in Poland is now already an intelligent system, and the changes increasingly have a hybrid character, that is, structural-parameter in nature. The uniform National Power System is increasingly being supplied with electricity not only from conventional sources but also from renewable sources: solar, wind, and hydro. In addition to producers and consumers of electric power and energy, prosumers are also appearing. The power system in this diversity is equipped with various types of automated devices, which make it increasingly intelligent. In Poland, the total installed capacity of all electricity sources, both conventional and renewable, reached 72.9 GW in April 2025, of which as much as 34.8 GWcomes from renewable sources (over 47.7%), while the rapidly growing number of prosumers makes the NPS system increasingly complex at the system level. The growing complexity and diversity of the National Power System means that controlling the development of the system intelligently involves the necessity of building development models. Thus, there exists a specific research gap between the need to obtain development models of the National Power System for the purpose of development control and the possibilities of obtaining such models using artificial intelligence methods, such as neural methods. In line with research within this research gap, this study attempted to obtain a development model of the National Power System using annual statistical data on the operation of the National Power System from 1990 to 2024. This formulation of the research problem involves, among other things, the selection of data for research experiments in the area of modeling the development of the National Power System, as well as the selection of architecture and learning methods for ANNs. In the present publication, in particular, the research methodology for modeling the development of the National Power System and the obtained research results using Recurrent ANN for modeling are presented.

Przeprowadzono symulację procesu uzdatniania biogazu do biometanu, na potrzeby jego zatłoczenia do sieci gazu ziemnego, z wykorzystaniem membran poliimidowych. W szczególności uwzględniono wpływ zastosowania kaskad membranowych jedno-, dwu- i trójstopniowych na efektywność procesu (odzysk metanu, wartość opałowa i liczba Wobbego). Surowy biogaz (61,0% mol CH₄, 38,8% mol CO₂) został wstępnie oczyszczony i sprężony, a w przypadku układów wielostopniowych strumienie permeatu były ponownie sprężane i mieszane.

As an example of the effective implementation of this model, the Krakow Eco-Incineration Plant was presented, which annually converts more than 230,000 t of waste. About half of the energy generated comes from the biodegradable fraction, which classifies it as a renewable source. The plant also supports a closed-loop economy by recovering metals and reducing CO₂ emissions.
