The diagenetic processes exhibited by the Neoproterozoic diamictites from Murchisonfjorden (Nordaustlandet, NE Svalbard) are presented. Diamictite samples from the Cryogene Polarisbreen Group - the Petrovbreen Member of the Elbobreen Formation and the Wilsonbreen Formation were analysed. The mineralogical associations composed of chlorite group minerals (chamosite), albite, calcite, Fe-dolomite, clay minerals (illite) and quartz, recognized by integrated optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy techniques are typical for an advanced stage of mesogenetic diagenesis. Low-grade burial mineral associations were not identified. Our investigations indicate that during diagenesis increased heat flux accompanied fluid migration and remineralization. Identified Fe-Ti – oxides, anatase in thin sections and magnetite identified by rock-magnetic experiments are the products of the secondary diagenetic mineralization. The ferromagnetic carriers representing primary depositional remanence magnetization (DRM) were not preserved.

The article provides a discussion on a strategy of personnel management in crisis situations on the example of AQUA S.A. – a water and sewerage company. The authors have made an attempt to analyse various aspects of personnel management against the context of crises such as a pandemic, a natural disaster or a technical failure. They have stressed the importance of an adequate response of persons in charge of personnel management to such situations and the necessity of rapid decision making. The main problems addressed in the article include contingency planning, communication with the personnel, flexible employment strategies, and psychological support for employees. The authors further emphasise that effective personnel management in a crisis situation requires cooperation of different divisions within a company and having clear emergency procedures in place. The article also provides a case study of the company AQUA, showcased as a model of good practice and a business that manages its staff effectively under difficult circumstances. The conclusions arising from these analyses can provide valuable guidance for enterprises preparing to handle potential crises in the future and/or to implement crisis situation management strategies. The authors have highlighted that investing in appropriate emergency personnel management strategies can yield benefits of improved organisational resilience to unexpected events and improved employee retention. They further imply that research on this subject should continue to reach even better understanding of effective personnel management practices applicable under crisis conditions.

Modern forest management requires a well-founded knowledge and understanding of all the risks involved in forest management. It requires a wealth of information not only on natural hazards, but also related to the financial aspect of running a business. The most important activity in the risk management phase is to identify all the known risk areas, and on this basis, to determine the appropriate classification of risks accompanying the activities of the entity in question, taking into account the various categories of risk division. In forest management, the global risk of activities should be considered in terms of two main risks: operational risk (including natural and anthropogenic factors), and financial risk, which, in simple terms, is the consequence of decisions and economic processes in an entity's area of activity. Considering the impact of the production factors that affect the results of the activities carried out, it should be emphasized that forest management has a specific distribution of standard production factors. The forest stand plays the role of both a production resource and an object of production, and in the final analysis, represents a production effect. Any consideration of financial risk management in forest management should be carried out based on long-term analytical data series. Another factor for forests under state management is the various functions that forest management performs. Taking into account the ownership criterion cited earlier, it needs to be emphasized that the weighting of individual financial risks may vary depending on the ownership structure of forests in a given country and taking into account the ownership share of forests in the timber sales market. In conclusion, it was pointed out that, unlike other industries, financial risk management in forest holdings can be disrupted by the function of forests, as well as the strong influence in the long term of natural phenomena that have a significant impact on determining the types and ordering the degree of significance of individual risks in the process of identifying them.

As organisations and economic markets continually evolve, it becomes essential to improve risk management skills on an ongoing basis. In this respect, it is particularly important to make practical use of all the tools available to identify and quantify risks. As with most entities, the most important tool for forest management is the timber selling price risk (TSPR). Economic practice shows that global markets experience very high volatility in this respect. The awareness of some popular techniques to understand the nature of individual risks by properly identifying their impact on the functioning of the organisation is currently increasing in importance. One of these techniques is the Value at Risk (VaR) method, which was used in this study to measure TSPR in 38 timber-selling economic entities. The aim of this article is to examine the concept of TSPR estimation using the VaR method adopted in the methodology by implementing the main VaR assumptions in the Polish forest economy in order to improve the methods of quantification of market risk in forestry, taking into account the impact of the sales volume and trade pattern of wood species on TSPR. The article demonstrates that the application of the VaR method can be an auxiliary tool in the TSPR management process. It is noted that this method can be a basic tool to ascertain the degree of exposure to risk and that the structure of commercial classes of timber is important. Using VaR, the relationship between the level of generated revenue and TSPR as well as between the assortment structure and TSPR was identified and discussed. It is also shown that the class of timber had an impact on TSPR.

Purpose: The objective of the paper is to study the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic on the standing of micro-enterprises in the Silesian Voivodeship. Design/methodology/approach: A study sample of 120 micro-enterprises from the Silesian Voivodeship has been selected. The study methods such as an interview and a survey have been used. A questionnaire has been used as a tool. The properly completed surveys have been obtained from 43 enterprises. Findings: It has been established that depending on the specific nature of a given enterprise and the area in which it operates, enterprises are, to varying degrees, susceptible to the impact of adverse factors related to the emergence of the global coronavirus pandemic, which, in turn, results in the differences in the standing of these enterprises. Research limitations/implications: In view of the small study sample, the studies carried out do not create a complete picture of the impact of the pandemic on micro-enterprises in the Silesian Voivodeship. They are rather a contribution to further studies. These should be conducted on the basis of a larger study sample. Originality/value: The global coronavirus pandemic which affected the world in the years 2019-2022 has left a strong mark on many aspects of human functioning, including pursuing business activity. It is important to gain knowledge on the impact of pandemic-related restrictions on the functioning of micro-enterprises in order to develop mechanisms to mitigate the adverse effects on entrepreneurship based on micro-enterprises.

Purpose: The study focuses on the problem of redevelopment of post-industrial areas. Their location is often attractive, but potential investors are deterred by a lack of knowledge about the area or an unstable ownership situation. It is therefore necessary to collect information on the past of the area, its current state and the ongoing effects of its former use. The article is an example of a preliminary examination of unused land in order to determine the possibility of its re-use. Design/methodology/approach: The scope of the study includes the identification of the main characteristics of the studied area. Findings: The direction of redevelopment of the analyzed area was initially determined. Practical implications: This study should be followed by a comprehensive analysis of the substances contained in the ground of the area in question and their impact on human health, planning of actions to neutralise any possible negative impact and an estimate of the costs of implementing such modifications. Social implications: The development of the studied area will be an extension of the recreational functions of the adjacent nature and landscape complex. Originality/value This article is a contribution to holistic research on the described area in order to give it valuable functions.

Purpose: Welding is one of the most commonly used methods of joining parts in the manufacturing industry. Unfortunately, during the welding process, a phenomenon in the deformation of the welded part occurs. With the required high geometrical accuracy, deformations negatively affect the ability of mounting a given part (Ferenc, 2007). The article presents a method of minimising pipe deformations with welded probes. Design/methodology/approach: The paper focuses on welding – method of joining metal parts and using selected quality management methods and tools (Wolniak, and Skotnicka, 2011). Findings: The cause of defective products was found. Practical implications: It has been developed a tool that minimizes the deformation of the welding process. The amount of defective products was minimized from 100% to 2% in the analyzed case. Originality/value: The presented methods can be used in production processes in which welding is used.

The transformation of the Polish economy during the period of its transformation from a planned socialist economy into a market economy resulted, among others, in the emergence of a large number of post-industrial areas which are no longer used. Located often in developed urban areas, with many disadvantages such as contamination or unstable ownership status, they are not of interest to investors. Exploiting the potential they undoubtedly have would in many cases require the investment of considerable resources, but in order for these to be allocated to the investment, the investor expects to gain complete knowledge of the character and specificity of the place. The article is an example of a preliminary analysis of a selected post-industrial area, which helps to outline the direction of future area redevelopment.

The process of transformation in the Polish economy, transforming it from a planned economy into a market economy, has resulted, among others, in the liquidation of many heavy industry plants in the Upper Silesian Industrial Region (GOP). GOP cities, which grew up on the basis of heavy industry, were spatially planned according to the needs of mining and metallurgical plants. Liquidation of the plants resulted in the creation of degraded, unused post-industrial areas, scattered over various city districts. Their location is often very attractive, but with many drawbacks, such as degradation, contamination by harmful substances or unclear legal status, potential investors are reluctant to take interest in them. Detailed documentation of the land’s characteristics, the effects of the activity previously carried out here, the community’s expectations regarding the use and development of such land, will make it easier for the investor to take a decision on the redevelopment of the area. The article is an example of a preliminary analysis of a selected post-industrial area, which helps to outline the direction of its revitalization.
