The latest lithostratigraphical scheme of Triassic deposits from the northern part of the Nida Basin (southern Poland) is presented. It refers to the units distinguished in the Polish Lowlands and NW margin of the Holy Cross Mountains. Petrographic characteristics of the proposed lithostratigraphic units, and the results of palynofacies analysis are given. The identified seven palynofacies types represent a variety of depositional environments: fluvial, lacustrine, playa, sebkha, open marine and lagoonal. Palynofacies characteristic for fluvial environments were identified in the Middle Buntsandstein, Schilfsandstein (Stuttgart Formation) and Upper Keuper deposits, lacustrine environment – within the Lower Keuper and Schilfsandstein, playa environment – in the Lower Gipskeuper, sebkha environment – in the Röt as well as Lower and Upper Gipskeuper, open marine environment – within the Muschelkalk and Grenzdolomit and lagoonal environment – in the Röt, Upper Muschelkalk and Grenzdolomit. Depositional environments of the Triassic deposits have been presentedreconstructed based on the lithofacies and palynofacies analyses.

TOC), w karbonie - iłowce wizenu i turneju formacji z Zaręb (przeciętnie 2.8% wag. TOC), a w górnym permie - wapień cechsztyński (średnio 1.6% wag. TOC). W utworach dolnego paleozoiku jest obecna materia organiczna pochodzenia morskiego (kerogen II typu). Dominuje ona również w utworach górnego paleozoiku. Lokalne wtrącenia lądowego kerogenu III typu stwierdza się w karbońskiej formacji z Zaręb. Utwory kambru i ordowiku w rejonie łysogórskim są przejrzałe. Stopień przeobrażenia badanych utworów syluru, karbonu i permu odpowiada początkowej i Środkowej fazie "okna ropnego".

The hydrocarbon potential of selected Paleozoic lithostratigraphic complexes of the Holy Cross Mountains was determined based on the results of Rock-Eval pyrolysis of 47 samples. For investigations only rocks in dark colours from Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Carboniferous and Permian strata were selected. The Cambrian and Ordovician strata from the Łysogóry Region have poor source-rock parameters. Among the Silurian strata, the claystones of the Bardo Beds (ca. 3 wt. % TOC) are the richest in total organic carbon (TOC). The claystones of the Zaręby Formation (Carboniferous - Visean and Tournaisian) have mean TOC content ca. 2.8 wt. % and the Zechstein Limestone (Permian) ca. 1.6 wt. % TOC. In the Early Paleozoic strata marine kerogen (Type-II) is present. It dominates also in the Upper Paleozoic strata. Local inputs of the terrigenous Type-III kerogen were confirmed in the Zaręby Formation (Carboniferous). The Cambrian and Ordovician strata in the Łysogóry region are overmature. Maturity of the investigated Silurian, Carboniferous and Permian strata corresponds with the initial and middle phases of the "oil window". The NW margin of the Holy Cross Mountains, where the Paleozoic complexes rich in the organic matter are covered by the Mesozoic complex, is perspective area for hydrocarbon exploration.

TheMiddle Buntsandstein material of vertebrate tracks has been found at new site in the northern margin of the Holy Cross Mountains (central Poland). Several dozen specimens of Chirotheriidae (Chirotherium cf. barthii, cf. Brachychirotherium sp., Isochirotherium sp., and Chirotheriidae indet.) and Rhynchosauroidae (Rhynchosauroides sp., Rhynchosauroidae indet.) tracks are reported from the deposits of the Samsonów Formation (=Pseudooolithic Beds) at the Pałęgi clay pit located near Mniów. Poorly preserved cf. Capitosauroides sp. and numerous swimming animal traces were also found in this site. Those are the first finds of vertebrate tracks from the uppermost Middle Buntsandstein strata in the Holy Cross Mountains.

Lower and Middle Buntsandstein sediments from the northern part of the Holy Cross Mountains (Central Poland) were studied palaeomagnetically. The obtained palaeomagnetic pole fits well to the Early Triassic segment of the stable European apparent polar wander path. This indicates that there were no detectable horizontal tectonic rotations in this part of the Holy Cross Mountains after the Early Triassic. In the lowermost part of the Buntsandstein sequence (the A0 and A1 units) the basal Triassic normal polarity zone was identified, whereas a reversed polarity dominates in the youngest rocks of the studied sections. This predominantly reversed part can be correlated with the Pomorze Formation (lower part of the Middle Buntsandstein). The correlation of these magnetic polarity records with magnetostratigraphic data from the other parts of the Central European Basin as well as from the Tethyan sections shows that in the studied area, the Permian-Triassic boundary should be placed near the boundary between the Top Terrigenous Series (uppermost Zechstein) and the A0 unit (lowermost Buntsandstein). In the German part of the Central European Basin the Permian–Triassic boundary coincides with the boundary between the Lower and Upper Bröckelschiefer. The Buntsandstein rocks from the localities of Wióry and Sosnowica contain numerous vertebrate tracks. According to the results of magnetostratigraphic correlation they are of Dienerian (Early Triassic) age.

Stanowiły one subarealne partie delt stożkowych wkraczających do zbiornika morskiego. Morskie wpływy, znajdujące swoje odbicie w składzie izotopowym spoiwa, sugerują tym samym cechsztyński wiek zlepieńców. Kwestią otwartą pozostaje dokładne ustalenie pozycji stratygraficznej omawianego kompleksu w nawiązaniu do podziału cyklotemowego cechsztynu. Zdaniem autorów, odsłonięta w kamieniołomie partia zlepieńców zygmuntowskich reprezentuje prawdopodobnie graniczny odcinek profilu dwóch serii skalnych - środkowego pakietu zlepieńców osadzonych w cyklu PZ1 oraz stropowej serii terygenicznej cechsztynu PZt.

This report presents the results of sedimentologic, lithologic-petrographic and isotopic investigations performed on conglomerates from quarry "Zygmuntówka" located in Czerwona Góra (Figs. 1, 2). In the exposed part of the quarry five lithofacies varieties of conglomerates as much as about 30 m in total thickness have been distinguished. They include: (i) massive conglomerates with compact fabric, (ii) massive conglomerates with scattered fabric, (iii) horizontally bedded conglomerates with compact fabric, (iv) diagonally trough bedded conglomerates with compact fabric, and (v) massive or poorly horizontally bedded conglomerates with compact fabric (Fig. 4). The grainy fabric is embedded primarily in a detrital mass of matrix type. In particular beds, the matrix consists of micrite, in places neosparite, clay minerals, pellitic quartz, iron oxides and hydrooxides with psammitic and finely psephitic limestone and veined calcite grains (Figs. 2, 3). Locally, the presence of calcite cement of hydrothermal origin replacing the matrix along linear (mostly subhorizontal) zones is observed (Fig. S). The conglomerates are cut by calcite veins assigned to two separate phases (acc. to Z. M. Migaszewski, S. Hałas, T. Durakiewicz, 1995, 1996a, b): (i) phase C, generations 1 and 2, and (ii) phase D, generations 7 and 9. As opposed to the D-calcites, the C-calcites do not pierce pebbles. The delta13C of the micrite-clayey-ferric matrix varies from -2,99 to -0,48 promile, whereas delta18 from -7,38 to -5,00 promile, respectively (Tab. 1). The isotopic composition of conglomeratic matrix and older veined calcites (phase C, generations 1 and 2) is nearly the same which indicates an influence of porous waters on initial crystallization of calcites in fissures and caverns (Tab. 2). The delta13C and delta18O of C-calcite vary from-3,91 to -0,67 promile, and from -9,07 to-4,82promile, respectively. The palisade calcite (generation 2) yields the highest temperatures ((Tab. 2). In turn, the delta13C and delta18O of D-calcite vary from -2,51 to -0,88 promile and from -8,41 to -8,15 promile, respectively (Z. M. Migaszewski, unpublished data). The isotopic composition of strontium 87Sr/86Sr of veined calcite (from 0,709432- 0,000006 to 0,710047- 0,000006) indicate primarily marine rigin of hydrothermal fluids. The conglomerates described formed as deposits of alluvial cones developed under the arid and semiarid climate. They formed subaerial portions of deltaic cones encroaching on the sea. Marine influxes have been reflected by the isotopic pattern of conglomeratic matrix (calculated from M. L. Keith and J. N. Weber's equation, 1964). The results of the investigation indicate the Zechstein age of conglomerates from quarry "Zygmuntówka". According to the present authors an exposed portion of these conglomerates lies at a boundary section contained between the PZl conglomerate series and the PZt top terrigenous series (Fig. 6).
