Purpose: This study investigates the comparative effectiveness of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in welding operator training, with a focus on perceived realism and potential for skill transfer. Given the high-risk nature of welding, the research explores safer and more efficient alternatives to traditional hands-on instruction. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 40 certified welders with at least five years of experience participated in a controlled comparison of VR and AR training systems at a laboratory in the Walbrzych Special Economic Zone in Poland. Both systems were enhanced with standardized instructions based on the Training Within Industry (TWI) Job Instruction method. After practicing the same welding task in both environments, participants rated the realism of each experience using a 5-point Likert scale. A paired sample t-test was used to assess statistical significance. Findings: The results show that AR training was perceived as significantly more realistic than VR, with average ratings of 4.13 and 2.55 respectively. Participants highlighted the physical interaction with real tools and objects in AR as a major factor contributing to this realism. VR, while immersive and safe, lacked haptic feedback and physical context, which reduced its perceived authenticity. The findings support the use of AR for enhancing skill transfer and suggest a blended training model using both technologies. Research limitations/implications: This study focuses on subjective assessments of realism without measuring actual skill improvement post-training. Future research should incorporate objective performance evaluations and explore long-term learning outcomes. Practical implications: The study provides evidence for training designers and manufacturers on how to integrate AR and VR in welding instruction. AR shows promise for improving trainee readiness and reducing material costs, while VR remains valuable for safe repetition of basic techniques. Originality/value: The article offers a novel comparison of VR and AR in the context of welding, based on evaluations from experienced welders rather than novices. It also integrates the TWI Job Instruction method into both training environments, providing a standardized instructional foundation for fair comparison and improved consistency.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to explore the possibilities of the metaverse environment in the context of simulating the evacuation of people from a building. The research hypothesis assumes the feasibility of applying the metaverse environment to conduct a scenario of simulating the evacuation of people. This environment provides the opportunity for a realistic representation of the building’s topology and the behaviour of people. Additionally, through the interaction among people, it is possible to reflect basic aspects of the human factor related to user interaction in the evacuation process. The article presents the possibilities of evacuating users from a virtual building using two evacuation scenarios and the potential to gather measurement results related to evacuation time in the metaverse environment. Furthermore, simulated evacuation scenarios aim to answer the question of whether conveying information about the dynamically changing situation during the exit of people from a building can accelerate evacuation time. Project and Methods: In the study, an empirical research method was employed, involving the implementation of a simulator application operating on the spatial.io platform. Using the unity 3D visualization design tool, a building model was reflected, which was utilized for conducting a virtual evacuation. Business logic was programmed through scripts in the C# programming language, enabling the measurement of the evacuation times of individual users from the building and their movement to the assembly point. To detect the optimal exit route at any given moment, an analysis of the graph was performed based on the Neo4j graph database. After publishing the simulator application, it was possible to simulate the evacuation of people from the building in a virtual environment and gather measurement results related to evacuation times. Results: The proposed research method provided the opportunity to gather evacuation time results from people using two evacuation scenarios. In evacuation scenarios where users were provided with information about dynamically changing situations on the evacuation route (e.g. the emergence of impassable paths), the times for people to exit the building in simulated evacuations were shorter. The design of a virtual evacuation simulator application demonstrated the utility of the metaverse environment in training individuals on the principles of safe building evacuation and showcased the potential for collecting data on people’s behaviour during evacuations. Conclusions: Based on the obtained experimental results and the analysis of global trends presented in the literature, which demonstrate the use of VR simulators in building evacuation simulations, it can be concluded that the presented simulation method may prove useful both in the field of education and in gathering fundamental results or simulating evacuation scenarios.

For many years, the construction industry has been characterized by a high degree of danger for construction workers. Due to the persistently unfavorable working conditions on the construction site, construction companies are constantly developing the occupational health and safety (OHS) procedures in place to eliminate or reduce the possibility of accidents and near misses. An analysis of the state of the art indicates that a promising support may be the implementation of an innovative solution – the use of virtual reality in OSH training. The paper discusses previous research results related to the application of this technology.
Currently, the dynamic development of information technology contributes to the increasingly widespread application of Virtual Reality (VR) as modern and effective methods and training tools used in the process of self-education and/or training related to understanding the essence of the principles of operation and mastering the tasks of operating even complex systems or technical processes through simulating their actions. A significant argument for the use of virtual reality simulators in training uniformed services is the favorable cost-effect ratio and considerations of trainee safety. However, the use of VR simulators may be accompanied by the possibility of side effects or intensified symptoms of the so-called cybersickness. Bearing this in mind, the purpose of this article is to present the results of preliminary studies of adverse factors occurring during training using a VR simulator. The theoretical foundation for empirical research was provided by the results of a conducted review and analysis of literary content. Among the empirical methods, studies were conducted using a simulator sickness questionnaire and a research trial according to the parallel triangulation strategy scheme, involving the simultaneous use of quantitative and qualitative methods. The results obtained in this way can provide a valuable source of information about factors increasing the risk of adverse symptoms of cybersickness and ways of their mitigation, and can serve for further work on their development and application of VR simulators.
The study presents advanced measurement methods used in the inventory of historic buildings, focused on the Potocki Palace in Krzeszowice. The paper addresses two main measurement methods that led to obtaining comprehensive and accurate documentation. The first technique was terrestrial laser scanning, using specialised laser scanners to collect data. In order to represent the actual colours and texture of the object under study, the scanning method was supported by photogrammetry. The second method was low-ceiling photogrammetry, which provided even more accurate data about the Palace. Data processing resulted in a three-dimensional (3D) solid, consisting of a multi-million-point cloud. This was followed by a vectorisation process, which made it possible to obtain a full-dimensional representation of the studied object. The results facilitated a detailed analysis of the Potocki Palace, including the identification of damage and changes occurring over the years. The resulting documentation provides a solid basis for future conservation, modernisation and research work related to the building. The paper also points out the potential applications of contemporary technologies in order to visualize inventoried objects. The technique of Virtual Reality (VR) and showing the object in 3D that has been popular so far, has recently found even broader application, providing input for the construction of the so-called Augmented Reality (AR).
Sport elektroniczny (esport) powstał z połączenia wewnętrznej potrzeby rywalizacji ludzi i rozwoju technologicznego w wielu powiązanych dziedzinach. Poszczególne informatyczne aspekty esportu to na przykład zastosowanie technologii wytwarzania gier, wirtualnej rzeczywistości (VR), rzeczywistości rozszerzonej (AR), uczenia maszynowego (ML), sztucznej inteligencji (AI) i inne.

Electronic sports (esports) emerged from the internal need for competitive play and technological developments in many related fields. At the same time, this phenomenon has a lot in common with traditional sports, which formalized the theory guiding training processes for many years. Technological development made the emergence of computer games and gaming phenomenon possible. This work will present a broader study of esports and the concept of virtuality engineering. At the same time, we indicate the possible future directions of development of some aspects of the discipline, which is incredibly vast. The various IT aspects of esports include, for example, the use of game production technologies, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and others. However, esports is not only connected to IT but also the law (intellectual rights, insurance, safety, and age restrictions), administration (teams, clubs, organizations, league regulations, and tournaments), and biology (medicine, psychology, addictions, training, and education). Finally, we also described some stereotypes associated with esports and computer games to point out disturbing aspects of the development of the sport. This article aims to present research issues being developed domestically and internationally.
In response to the common issues in practical training in vocational engineering construction courses, such as dangerous operation of training equipment, insufficient number of training equipment, and ineffective teaching, a vivid and interactive virtual simulation training system was developed using Unity3D software, taking the U-shaped bridge abutment in the course of Bridge Engineering as an example. Detailed introduction to the development and design process of 3D model establishment, ZSpace device adaptation, file format conversion, model rendering and disassembly, model zooming in and out, script writing and function implementation, UI interface design, etc., in order to achieve immersive interaction functions such as free observation, assembly disassembly, and ZSpace integrated VR virtual experience in the virtual simulation training system. The practical results show that the interactive effect simulated through the simulation training system is superior to that of the physical system, which can enhance the sense of experience, improve learning enthusiasm, and deepen the understanding of the knowledge points in Bridge Engineering Drawing Recognition. After the system is successfully established and applied in the training and teaching process, it will provide an important reference for the training and teaching of relevant courses for students majoring in road and bridge engineering, and also enhance the cultivation of high-quality skilled personnel in engineering majors in vocational colleges.
