This study presents a log-based learning analytics pipeline for quantifying user engagement in Moodle, demonstrating how event log data can be transformed into analyzable interaction patterns through extraction, anonymization, categorization, and statistical modeling. The approach applies distributional testing using chi-square statistics and Cramér’s V to identify structural differences in user activity. As a case study, the method was implemented in an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course, comparing a control group following a traditional LMS configuration (N = 40) and an experimental group using a gamified Moodle environment (N = 40). Results indicated that the gamified configuration generated significantly higher frequencies of system-level and assessment-related interactions, as well as more sustained activity across the instructional period, while the control group relied primarily on static content access and exhibited declining participation over time. Engagement was operationalized through event frequencies, capturing observable behavioral differences rather than cognitive or learning outcomes. Beyond the educational setting, the study illustrates how reproducible event-log analytics can be used to detect behavioral shifts in technology-supported environments, offering a methodological template that is potentially transferable to similar contexts in applied computer science.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the prospects of using distance teaching for various forms of education as perceived by teachers. The study also sought to provide feedback on how remote instruction was provided and to identify methods and forms of instructional work preferred by teachers during the period under study. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve this purpose, a quantitative method has been employed, based on a survey conducted electronically using Google tools. The survey respondents were 9,070 teachers employed in the Kuyavia-Pomerania region of Poland, who represented nearly 30% of the total teacher study population in the area. Findings: The results of the study indicate that more than 50% of the teachers recognise the significance of the potential of distance teaching, although only a small group of the teachers (less than 10%) consider it feasible to completely replace conventional classes with remote classes. The preferred methods and forms of remote instructional work are multimedia presentations (over 50%) and playback of classes in video format (33%). The overwhelming majority of the teachers (60-70%) emphasise the importance of conducting live classes. In every aspect of the study, about 30% of teachers did not express their opinions, which may suggest their lack of knowledge of distance learning possibilities. Practical implications: Results of the study may be of interest to both researchers and practitioners investigating the evaluation and development of potential applications of distance teaching in various aspects of education. The findings may serve to develop solutions that address actual challenges faced by teachers in the distance learning process more adequately, contributing to the improvement of this educational process. Originality/value: This study may contribute to the discussion on the role, benefits and challenges of distance teaching in the educational system. Concomitantly, it offers an important contribution to the debate on adjustment of national and regional distance teaching strategies to the specific needs of teachers working in different types of schools.

Modern technology has become a vital part of our daily lives, and the world has undergone remarkable advancements in various scientific and technological fields. The advancement of technology presents a variety of opportunities for students to promote academic development and make it easier to access education through online learning systems. The most difficult and most demanding task during learning is to be aware of and support the emotional side of students. Recognizing one's emotions is easy for humans, but it is a challenging task for computers due to the specific features of the human face. However, recent advances in computing and image processing have made it possible and easy to detect and categorize emotions in images and videos. This paper focuses on detecting learners' emotions in real time during synchronous learning. In this regard, a video/chat application has been developed for the tutor to detect the emotions of the learners while presenting his lesson. The emotions detected are separated into three states (Satisfied, Neutral and Unsatisfied); each state is made up of two or three distinct emotions. The objective is to assist teachers in adapting teaching methods in virtual learning settings according to the emotions of learners.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, e-learning was adopted by different institutions globally to cope with increasing demands for distance learning, especially in higher education. However, assessing student satisfaction remains challenging due to limitations, such as low motivation without face-to-face interaction. This paper presents a conceptual framework for e-Services Impact Analysis (eSIAF) for higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia. Based on a number of technology acceptance theories, this conceptual framework highlights several models adopted to examine different users' satisfaction with e-learning service quality among students, teachers, administrators, and e-learning technologists. This paper is part of ongoing research, which will be followed by data collection from eight higher education institutions. After data collection and further processing, a quantitative method will be used to validate the framework. Based on the findings of the study, different approaches can be adopted to increase the satisfaction level of e-learning in higher educational institutes in Saudi Arabia.

Purpose: The aim of the research described in this article is to specify the possibilities offered by e-learning, used in achieving the strategic goals of Grupa Azoty S.A. (within the scope appropriate for the research subject), as well as a process supporting strategy implementation. Design/methodology/approach: Systematic literature review and content analysis (including internal documents). Interviews with selected managers of the studied company and specialists dealing with IT, general management, and staff development; self-observation; average rank method. Findings: The specification of possibilities offered by e-learning in the process of strategy implementation has been determined, respondents' opinions have been collected, and ranks have been assigned to individual factors, indicated by respondents during the interviews. Research limitations/implications: Research available in the literature refers exclusively to its training and educational functions (in the classic sense - acquiring knowledge). Industrial e-learning is a poorly recognizable construct and therefore arbitrarily interpreted, conceptually ungrounded, and subjectively defined. This is a significant limitation because, in the case of industrial e-learning, its repository function (knowledge available at your fingertips without the need to assimilate it) and monitoring, as in the described case, the implementation of strategic tasks are more important. Practical implications: For the examined company, this means the necessity of building awareness of e-learning itself, its capabilities, and applications, not so much in training but as an essential repository of unique/unavailable online knowledge and as a supportive process throughout the entire stage of strategy implementation and execution. Originality/value: The content of the article goes beyond the framework set in the literature, which deals with e-learning in a classical (educational and training) approach. There is a lack of research on e-learning treated as a process/tool (depending on the adopted semantic perspective) supporting the implementation of a company's strategy. There is also a lack of research on industrial e-learning. This article is an attempt to fill this gap.

Electromagnetic theoretical concepts, which are represented mathematically, are usually challenging to grasp by students. In this study, we explore an interactive technology-based teaching tool to develop further students’ mastery of electromagnetic concepts through learning development and visualization of electromagnetic problems. This visualization of the problems will help students analyse, evaluate, and draw conclusions of the impact of electromagnetic-related problems in real-life. The simulation tool in this study is based on a MATLAB® toolbox package, in which partial-differential equations (PDE) solver is the core engine. In this paper, we will also provide a step-by-step guide on the use of such an interactive computer-aided tool so that it can be a great self-guide tool for beginners in the field of physics and a first-level introductory course in electromagnetism. The distant teaching during pandemic provoked all the teachers searching some tools that could support their job. In the paper the platform Whiteboard is presented. Moreover, the author shares her reflections on its practical use. The platform gives a lot of opportunities to support teaching in STEM subjects, like mathematical formulas in MSWord-type editor and in LaTeX editor, graphs of functions, charts, angles or rulers. It allows for individual work of each student under supervision of the teacher and giving/receiving the support when only it is needed. Moreover, this tool can be used to provoke discussion in the class, in the cases of correct or incorrect solutions. This way it supports creation and development of abilities: of critical thinking and finding the correct arguments in the discussion. The Whiteboard platform occurred to be perfect tool for activation of students during distant learning. They were aware that their work (or its lack) is visible for the teacher, so the students were motivated to get prepared to the practical classes, basing on the earlier lectures. The platform can be used to achieve the same goals in the stationary teaching.

Nowadays data analysis of any kind becomes a piece of art. The same happens with the teaching processes of statistics, econometrics and other related courses. This is not only because we are facing (and are forced to) teach online or in a hybrid mode. Students expect to see not only the theoretical part of the study and solve some practical examples together with the instructor. They are waiting to see a variety of tools, tutorials, interactive laboratory instructions, books, exams online. In this study I am going to show the latest technical solutions for instructors using R and/or Python in their online data analysis labs.
