Primary research using quantitative methods in social sciences

Empirical processes based on data from secondary or primary sources are characteristic of research in social sciences in the discipline of economics and finance. The difference between the two forms lies in the use of extraneous or so-called proprietary, or author’s data in the analysis. Primary research is a research process in which the author of the study conducts research using proprietary measurement tools created for the study and with reference to the adopted research method. In the field of economics, mainly quantitative methods are used and the most egalitarian method is the survey method, while the research technique - survey questionnaires. In this publication, the authors presented a typology of quantitative research methods used in the discipline of economics and finance.

Procesy empiryczne oparte na danych pochodzących ze źródeł wtórnych lub pierwotnych są charakterystyczne dla badań w naukach społecznych, w dyscyplinie ekonomia i finanse. Różnica między tymi dwoma formami polega na wykorzystaniu w analizie odpowiednio danych obcych lub tzw. autorskich. Badania pierwotne to proces badawczy, w którym autor opracowania prowadzi badania z wykorzystaniem autorskich narzędzi pomiarowych, stworzonych na potrzeby badania i w odniesieniu do przyjętej metody badawczej. W dziedzinie ekonomii stosowane są głównie metody ilościowe, a najbardziej egalitarną metodą jest metoda ankietowa, z kolei techniką badawczą - kwestionariusze ankietowe. W niniejszej publikacji autorzy przedstawili typologię ilościowych metod badawczych stosowanych w dysycplinie ekonomii i finansów.

Bootstrap estimation of sound power level determined by the survey method

The possibility of using the bootstrap method to determine the sound power level for the survey method was presented in this paper. Minimum values of the bootstrap algorithm input parameters have been determined for the estimation of sound power level. Two independent simulation experiments have been performed for that purpose. The first experiment served to determine the impact of the original random sample size, and the second to determine the impact of a number of the bootstrap replications on the accuracy of estimation of sound power level. The inference has been carried out based on the results of non-parametric statistical tests at significance level α = 0.05. The statistical analysis has shown that the minimum size of the original random sample n used to estimate the value of sound power level should be 4 elements for the survey method. The minimum number of bootstrap replications necessary for the estimation of sound power level should be B = 5100. The study on the usefulness and effectiveness of the bootstrap method in the determination of sound power level in real-life situation was carried out with the use of data representing actual results. The data used to illustrate the proposed solutions and carry out the analysis were the results of sound power levels of reference sound power source B&K 4205 were used.

Celem głównym artykułu pt. Wpływ pandemii na szkolenie przyszłych kierowców zawodowych w ośrodkach szkolenia kierowców było wykazanie, w jaki sposób pandemia wpłynęła na liczbę osób, które pragnęły odbyć tego rodzaju kurs w okresie jej trwania. Ponadto celem szczegółowym było zobrazowanie wpływu zaistniałej sytuacji na funkcjonowanie i organizację ośrodków szkolenia kierowców, które prowadziły tego rodzaju kursy. Na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych metodą ankietową w ośrodkach na terenie województwa mazowieckiego wykazano, że w okresie pandemii wzrosła liczba kandydatów na kierowcę zawodowego. Taki rezultat wiązał się bezpośrednio z zapotrzebowaniem (popytem) na rynku pracy, głównie na kierowców przewożących towary. To zaś wynikało z rosnącego popytu na zakupy dokonywane on-line. Na tej podstawie założona teza została zweryfikowana negatywnie.

The main goal of the article The impact of the pandemic on the training of future professional drivers organized in driving schools was to show how the pandemic affected the number of people wishing to do this type of course during it. Moreover, the specific objective was to demonstrate the impact of a given situation on the functioning and organization of driving schools that organized such courses. Based on the survey conducted among centers in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, it was shown that during the pandemic the number of candidates for professional drivers increased. This result was directly related to the demand (demand) in the labor market, mainly for drivers transporting goods. This, in turn, resulted from the growing demand for on-line purchases. On this basis, the assumed thesis was verified negatively.

The sound power level as a parameter characterizing a sound source, as opposed to the sound pressure level, should theoretically not depend on the place of measurement and distance from the source. Therefore, it is often used as a basis for comparing machines and equipment in terms of noise emissions. Manufacturers usually specify this parameter in the technical documentation or on the equipment. The sound power level is also a necessary parameter for modelling the natural and working environment in terms of acoustics. The standards for methods of determining the sound power level define three classes of accuracy depending on the method and environment of measurement. The paper outlines the problems associated with determining the sound power level of non-standard machines in situ. The case study concerns a machine, a modular SRP (shelf ready packaging) production system that can be part of an extensive production line. Specific for this type of machine is the coexistence of many local sources generating sound of different nature, cyclic mode of operation and the possibility to set different capacity.
