Content available remote Ship(s) of Theseus: Authenticiti(es) and Identiti(es) of Biñan's Alberto House(s)
EN
The Alberto Mansion is significant in Philippine national patrimony as an "extant" heritage structure related to the national hero, Jose Rizal, being his maternal ancestral home. Within the locality of Biñan where it originally stood, the controversy of its dismantling and eventual reconstructions has resulted in two houses, each containing fragments of its original materiality, one in situ: another within a "heritage resort" framing an idealized Philippine past. This paper argues that the notions of authenticity ascribed to both replicas cannot be analyzed on the simple dichotomy of original and copy and must be viewed as a plural system of mutually validatory structures. Through the lens of the Ship of Theseus and the transmutation of originality in Greek mimesis and Baudrillardian hyperreal, the entities simultaneously exist as authentic and reproduction, agents dynamically interacting with each other and the collective memory of their everyday contexts in the substantiation of their significance.

The reconstruction of a pipe organ involves determining the blowing pressure. The lack of information about the pressure value significantly prolongs the process of instrument restoration. In addition, it may even result in irreversible damage to the pipes, as the adjustment of the sound parameters that depend on the pressure requires changing the physical structure of the pipes. In this paper, we provide a methodology for determining the blowing pressure in a pipe organ. We also present a formula describing the air pressure in the pipe foot, depending only on the height of the pipe’s cut-up and the fundamental frequency. We apply machine learning to determine the blowing pressure, based on the parameters of only a percentage of pipes. Moreover, we use generative artificial intelligence, which achieves outstanding prediction accuracy. We conclude that the height of the cut-up and the fundamental frequency allow determining the blowing pressure. The more pipes, the higher the accuracy, but even 10% of pipes can be sufficient.

During the use or maintenance of immovable heritage structures, there is often the need to create a copy of an original element, which is frequently a religious museum piece or a part of liturgical furnishings. Producing an accurate and functional replica—regardless of the underlying reasons—requires a technique capable of accurate reproduction. Key requirements for such a technique include short production time, high quality and relatively low cost. Additionally, the method should be versatile, widely accessible and easy to apply in practice. Photogrammetry, especially when combined with 3D printing, fulfils these requirements and enables the rapid creation of accurate replicas of movable objects of heritage. This article presents a case study involving the use of photogrammetry to produce a precise replica of a religious bas-relief. The study discusses both the advantages and the limitations of this approach, and identifies key parameters that enable the production of a 3D printed model based on a reconstruction from twodimensional photographic data.

This article describes the process of shaping the architecture of the church interior designed by Dominikus Böhm, whereas the external form of the redesigned Catholic Union House of the Camillians in Zabrze is the work of another creator, engineer Heinrich Gerlach from Gliwice. When describing the wonderful work of Dominikus Böhm in Zabrze, we refer to the construction of St. Joseph’s Church and a hospital adjacent to the House of the Camillian Order as well as the unexecuted temple of St. Camillus, which was to replace the temporary church that continues to perform its liturgical functions to this day. Presenting post-war renovation works, the article emphasizes the necessity of deep knowledge of the genesis, history and symbolism of sacred architecture. The importance of modernism, historicism and Christocentrismin the work of Dominikus Böhm has also been taken into consideration. Some of the ideas introduced by this architect did not survive in their entirety in St. Camillus Church in Zabrze due to conservation works and changes related to the postconciliar liturgical renewal in the twentieth century.

Content available The fetish of ruin or revitalization of a monument?
EN
Polish conservation doctrines use terms relating to ruin, most of which are undefined. Nineteenth-century conservation doctrines and the Venice Charter have long lost their relevance, and the restoration and reconstruction procedures of an architectural monument are still rare in Poland due to the fascination with 'permanent ruins'. Reconstruction as a response to the social demand for the care of monuments, refers to the possibility of contemporary use of a monument, and its value is not determined solely by the authenticity of the matter.

Dziewiętnastowieczne doktryny konserwatorskie i Karta Wenecka dawno utraciły swą aktualność, a zabiegi restauracji i rekonstrukcji zabytku architektonicznego są w Polsce nadal rzadkością z powodu fascynacji „trwałą ruiną”.

During using immovable monuments, it is very often necessary to create a copy of the original movable monument, often a museum object. The creation of a faithful usable copy, regardless of the reasons for the need to make it, requires the use of a technique that allows the creation of the duplicate itself. The key requirements for the technique of creating duplicates of movable monuments are the speed of their creation, high quality and relatively low cost of implementation. Another important issue is the universality of the method itself and its availability, as well as the ease of its application. These requirements are met by the photogrammetry technique, which, in combination with 3D printing, allows for the creation of faithful duplicates of movable monuments, including those that are equipment of sacred buildings, in a short time. This paper is a case study in which the application of the photogrammetry technique to create a faithful copy of a sacral bas-relief is described and presented. The paper discusses both the advantages and disadvantages of the photogrammetric technique, and determines important parameters that enable the creation of a spatial 3D print based on the reconstruction of a group of two-dimensional photos.

During the use of buildings, architectural details undergo a natural decapitalization process, but finishing elements are often damaged as a result of acts of vandalism, and are often destroyed as a result of warfare. In the case of immovable monuments, there is a need to have an inventory of architectural details, their quick reconstruction in the event of damage, as well as to make a duplicate for the duration of the actual conservation work. Photogrammetry as a reconstruction technique allows for the creation of spatial images of architectural details from flat two-dimensional photographs. The aim of the article is to present the results of work on the author’s image reconstruction algorithm that allows for the quick, time- and quality-optimized creation of a replacement copy of fragments of architectural details. The paper will present both the advantages and limitations of the method used. Due to the extensiveness of the material, the paper is divided into parts I and II.

The article describes the renovation and reconstruction of the Kossak Family Manor Granary in Górki Wielkie, which, after years of neglect, was transformed into an Educational and Cultural Center. The project aimed to preserve the historical character of the building while protecting the brown long-eared bats inhabiting the basement. Before the work began, a detailed technical assessment of the structure was conducted, revealing numerous structural damages. During the modernization process, special attention was given to the implementation of modern installations, energy-efficient solutions, and the reinforcement of structural elements. A key aspect of the project was ensuring appropriate conditions for the bats – temporary shelters were prepared, and the work schedule was adjusted to the animals life cycle. The basement’s microclimate and original crevices, which serve as hiding places, were preserved. The renovation work was carried out in consultation with chiropterology experts. The project serves as an example of best practices in combining nature conservation with the adaptation of historical buildings. It demonstrates that a balance between development and environmental care is achievable.
