Reducing road noise through the use of quiet pavements is one of the challenges facing road surfacing contractors. The selection of a suitable aggregate can address this problem. This paper presents the results of a study of pavement noisiness in relation to its anti-skid properties. Based on the results obtained, the characteristics of the aggregate are indicated that will allow to reduce the noisiness of the pavement while maintaining an adequate level of safety for road users.
The type and kind of road surfaces and their technical condition have a significant impact on the tyre/road noise of motor vehicles. The paper presents possibilities and examples of the use of stationary and mobile methods for measuring and assessing the acoustic properties of pavements for three cases involving the laboratory mix design and road use stages. The results of the example studies confirmed the effectiveness of these methods in assessing the noise performance of road pavements.

Typ i rodzaj nawierzchni drogowych oraz ich stan techniczny mają istotny wpływ na poziom hałasu toczenia pojazdów samochodowych. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości i przykłady wykorzystania stacjonarnych i mobilnych metod pomiaru i oceny właściwości akustycznych nawierzchni w odniesieniu do trzech przypadków obejmujących etapy projektowania mieszanek w laboratorium oraz użytkowania drogi. Wyniki przykładowych badań potwierdziły skuteczność tych metod w ocenie hałaśliwości nawierzchni drogowych.
The article describes the mechanical system developed at our department. It examines shaft couplings and their impact of torsional oscillation and vibrations on noisiness of the mechanical system. The noisiness of the mechanical system is compared with the vibrations measured in a given mechanical system. The article also presents the apparatus used for measurements. Every device is described in detail and highlights its use in practice. These devices were used for measurements in the laboratory and the results of the measurements are shown in the graphs. From the results, we can evaluate that vibration and noisiness are closely related. A detailed evaluation of the changes of individual values using a variety of shaft couplings is summarized at the end of the article.
The present study was conducted in the lobbies of 16 Taiwanese urban hospitals to establish what contributes to the degree of noisiness experienced by patients and those accompanying them. Noise level measurements were then conducted by 15 min equivalent sound pressure levels (LAeq, 15m, dB) during daytime hours. The average LAeq itself was found to be poorly related to perceived noisiness. Levels variations were better correlated, more continual noise may actually be perceived as noisier. According to the findings of a multiple linear stepwise regression model (r = 0.91, R2 = 0.83), the 3 independent variables shown to have the largest effects on perceived noisiness were 1) 1/(L5−L95), 2) effective duration of the normalized autocorrelation function (_e, h), of all LAeq, 15m over 9–17, and 3) percentile loudness, N5, 15m. These results resemble previous studies that had assumed that a larger fluctuation of noise level corresponds to less annoyance experienced for mixed traffic noise studied in a laboratory situation. As an advanced approach, for hospital noise that consisted of 12 audible noise events, subjective noisiness were evaluated by the noise time structure analyzed by autocorrelation with loudness and levels variation.

Measurement of road pavement noisiness in Poland and statistic analysis of measurement data induced the authors to propose the following fife pavement classes in noisiness: silent pavements, pavements with reduced noisiness, pavements with normal noisiness, pavements with slightly higher noisiness, pavements with excessive noisiness.
