The demands placed on industry today are increasingly challenging and demanding. To meet these challenges, designers, contractors, and technology managers are constantly looking for effective solutions. Industry has always thrived on new technologies and innovations to achieve better results, so it is critical to undertake new developmental research to simulate and test new technological proposals. In this paper, the author describes a new direction in civil engineering technology that interdisciplinary couples solutions known to the bridge industry with geotechnical aspects in the technology space and the possibility of implementation in the construction industry. The author proposes the application of prestressing together with technological aspects of this solution to diaphragm walls, which are not only a temporary housing but also the foundations of a new investment. Thanks to this solution it is possible, among other things, to resign from one level of diaphragm expansion of diaphragm walls, which translates into cost optimization. It is an innovative approach to designing and most of all constructing the load-bearing structure, which directly influences the technological optimization of selected issues of completing the underground parts of the investment. Additionally, the presented solution contributes to the balanced execution of the investment by reducing the use of materials and construction equipment. The author discusses technological, execution and implementation problems related to the application of innovative solutions in construction companies together with examples of cost optimization. The author presents the results of conducted research with application of the proposed solution in the implementation of the underground commercial investment.

Wymagania stawiane dziś przez przemysł są coraz bardziej ambitne i wyśrubowane. Aby wyjść naprzeciw tym wyzwaniom, projektanci, wykonawcy oraz zarządzający technologiami, nieustanie szukają efektywnych rozwiązań. Od zawsze przemysł rozwija się dzięki nowym technologiom i innowacjom, które pozwalają osiągać lepsze wyniki, zatem niezwykle istotne jest podejmowanie nowych badań rozwojowych, które pozwolą symulować i sprawdzać nowe propozycje technologiczne. W niniejszym artykule autor opisuje nowy kierunek rozwoju technologii w zakresie inżynierii lądowej, który interdyscyplinarnie sprzęża rozwiązania znane mostownictwu z aspektami geotechnicznymi w przestrzeni technologii i możliwości wdrożenia w przemyśle budowlanym. Postawione zagadnienie dotyczy zasadniczo dwóch obszarów realizacji, czyli projektowania i wykonawstwa podziemnych części inwestycji. Część projektowa z pewnością związana jest z zagadnieniami geotechnicznymi, lecz część wykonawcza oprócz wymagań dotyczących konkretnie geotechniki, sprowadza się do zwinnego zarządzania dostawami materiałów, koordynacji prac wykonawczych, optymalnego wykorzystania sprzętu oraz kontroli prowadzonych procesów. Autor proponuje zastosowanie sprężenia wraz z aspektami technologicznymi tego rozwiązania do ścian szczelinowych, stanowiących nie tylko tymczasową obudowę, ale także fundamenty nowej inwestycji. Dzięki temu rozwiązaniu możliwe jest m.in. zrezygnowanie z jednego poziomu rozparcia ścian szczelinowych, co przekłada się na optymalizację kosztów.

Purpose: The aim of the work was to present the concept of innovation in an enterprise. The multitude of definitions and breakdowns of innovation are emphasized. In addition, a review of scientific papers in the field of innovation management strategies in the enterprise was made. Design/methodology/approach: Due to the cognitive nature of the article, the aim of the work will be achieved using the method of analyzing the literature on the subject. Literature studies include Polish and foreign publications. Findings: Economists point out that innovations are essential for a company's survival in the marketplace. They play a key role in building a competitive advantage and their absence may pose serious threats to the further functioning of the enterprise. Given the importance of innovation, it is essential to manage them effectively. The need to adjust the innovation strategy to the internal and external conditions in which the company operates is emphasized, because there is no strategy that can be successfully used in every enterprise. Originality/value: The article is a literature review on the innovation strategies. This work can contribute to emphasizing the role of innovation in the functioning of the company, making managers aware of the need to manage them and choosing the right strategy tailored to the company's capabilities and goals.

Purpose: authors based on trends, goals, theses and examples of good practices presented in the article focus – both in theoretical and practical dimensions – on striving to identify need to develop eco-innovation as an element strengthening environmental policy in global, regional and national dimension. Design/methodology/approach: theses presented in the article have been verified using the following methods: literature review, critical literature analysis, document and comparative analysis, and examples of good practice. Findings: innovations in the field of ecology focus in particular on human activities in two areas. The first is use of existing living and inanimate natural resources resulting from need to maintain life expectancy. In the second area, focus on its protection and care for its duration. Therefore, it should be emphasized that associating innovations with them is extremely important in modern ecology. Striving to create new eco-friendly solutions of an eco-innovative nature both in the sphere of its social acceptance and in utilitarian dimension. Originality/value: the article enriches, and at the same time develops, knowledge and discussion in the field of defining eco-innovations – and their impact on the lives of communities and individuals. Thanks to knowledge presented in the article, the need to look for solutions that can strengthen the impact of eco-innovation on the natural environment is clearly justified.

W pracy zbadano postawę respondentów wobec prozdrowotnych właściwości dyni oraz ich opinię względem innowacyjnej żywności prozdrowotnej i suplementów diety. Analiza uzyskanych danych wskazuje, że dynia, choć wg kryteriów botanicznych jest owocem, to zwyczajowo jest uznawana za warzywo, do którego konsumenci i producenci żywności wracają po wielu latach zapomnienia. Używa się jej również jako surowiec do produkcji żywności prozdrowotnej oraz suplementów diety ukierunkowanych na uzupełnienie niedoborów witamin i składników mineralnych oraz niwelowanie wielu dolegliwości i wspomaganie leczenia niektórych chorób. Uzyskane wyniki badań potwierdziły, że zdecydowana większość respondentów pozytywnie odbiera innowacyjne produkty spożywcze i chętnie je próbuje. Wyniki przeprowadzonej ankiety wskazują, że konsumenci posiadają wiedzę na temat prozdrowotnych właściwości dyni, jednak nie korzystają z zawierającej ją żywności prozdrowotnej oraz suplementów diety.

The study examined the attitudes of respondents toward the health-promoting properties of pumpkin and their opinions on innovative functional foods and dietary supplements. The analysis of collected data indicates that pumpkin is a wellknown fruit that consumers and food producers keep returning to after many years of neglect. It is also used as a raw material for the production of functional foods and dietary supplements aimed at supplementing vitamin and mineral deficiencies, as well as alleviating many ailments and supporting the treatment of some diseases. The results of the survey confirmed that the vast majority of respondents have a positive perception of innovative food products and are willing to try them. The results also indicate that consumers are familiar with the healthpromoting properties of pumpkin and are willing to use functional foods and dietary supplements containing it.

Seria czterech artykułów przedstawia wykorzystanie chmur punktów oraz skaningu laserowego na budowie. Dzięki zastosowaniu skanowania laserowego można rozwiązać wiele zagadnień inżynierskich i optymalizacyjnych. W pierwszym artykule przedstawiono podstawowe informacje na temat skanerów laserowych oraz ich działania. Wyjaśniono, co wpływa na dokładność pomiarów instrumentami skanującymi i w jaki sposób odbywa się skanowanie. Przedstawiono także zagadnienie związane z wykorzystaniem skanerów do inwentaryzacji robót zanikowych i zakrywanych (zbrojenie i instalacje).

A series of four articles covers the use of point clouds and laser scanning on site. Thanks to the use of laser scanning, many engineering and optimization issues can be solved. The first article presents basic information about laser scanners and their operation. It explains what influences the accuracy of measurements with scanning instruments and how the scanning is performed. The issue related to the use of scanners for inventory of decaying and covered works (reinforcement and installations) is also presented.

Linia kolejowa nr 351 relacji Poznań – Szczecin wchodzi w skład międzynarodowej magistrali E59 biegnącej z południa Europy aż do Skandynawii i stanowiącej jeden z elementów Transeuropejskiej Sieci Transportowej (TEN-T), tworzonej nie tylko przez linie kolejowe, ale również drogi, porty lotnicze, morskie, rzeczne, drogi wodne oraz terminale przeładunkowe. W północno-zachodniej Polsce, na terenie województw wielkopolskiego, lubuskiego i zachodniopomorskiego, na linii nr 351 (E59) firma Strabag realizuje dwa kontrakty kolejowe o wartości ponad 1 mld zł. Są to odcinki Dobiegniew – Słonice oraz Wronki – Słonice. Oba kontrakty wykonywane są według czerwonej książki FIDIC dla PKP Polskich Linii Kolejowych S.A. jako zamawiającego.

Użycie betonu, standaryzacja i prefabrykacja usprawniają proces realizacji. W artykule zaprezentowano rozwiązania projektowe, w których użycie betonu uzasadnione jest względami użytkowymi, estetycznymi i środowiskowymi.

Contemporary dwelling was shaped by the concepts and standards developed at the beginning of the 20th century, introducing new values into the existing system, such as functionalism or innovative typology of layouts. The use of concrete, standardization and prefabrication improve the implementation process. In this article we look at design solutions where the use of concrete is justified for functional, aesthetic and environmental reasons.

The paper presents original research, encompassing the results of analyses of modular building façade solutions, as well as innovative design concepts based on these results by students of the Faculty of Architecture at the Poznań University of Technology. Adapting architecture to climate change is the main objective behind research and innovative designs. Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, thermal comfort of buildings, better thermal environment ergonomics for users of buildings' interiors, increased energy efficiency together with the use of renewable energy sources are major challenges for today's designers. Dealing with rainwater, wind and pressure changes are already absolute necessities. Contemporary trends in modern construction in urban areas were identified on the basis of results of analyses of selected existing buildings, presented using tables, graphs and statistical tools. Conclusions from the demonstrated correlations of quantitative data with social, economic and environmental factors became the basis for the students’ conceptual assumptions. The selected innovative façade designs presented in the article demonstrate a variety of solutions for modern modular systems which protect buildings from excessive sun exposure, help insulation resist external factors, generate energy, ventilate buildings, use pressure differences, collect water, purify air, protect fauna, etc. As a result, the developed concepts may be indicative of a contemporary approach to sustainable building design, based not only on reducing any negative environmental impact and conserving natural resources, but also on designing aesthetic buildings based on classic notions of beauty.

Purpose: The study aimed to identify differences in the level of innovation of the two types of firms – family (FB) and non-family (NFB) – and understand how the expectations of the management and/or business owners vary regarding the impact of innovations on business performance. Design/methodology/approach: Research questions were formulated based on the review of the findings of the surveys that compared innovation in family and non-family firms worldwide. Then, empirical research was conducted in 334 family and non-family firms in Poland. Findings: The findings do not confirm significant differences in the level of product innovation between FB and NFB. On the other hand, they point to a higher level of innovation measured with the number of process innovations in NFB. Research shows that firms rate the degree to which the expectations of innovation effects were fulfilled relatively low in both types of firms. Research limitations/implications: The applied measurement of the level of innovation according to the number of implemented innovations does not take into account their qualitative aspect, whether they are radical or incremental. The survey (questionnaire and interview) was based solely on the number of innovations declared as implemented by the respondents. Practical implications: The survey findings should inspire managers of family and non-family firms to analyze both the expected effects of the implementation of a particular type of innovation and to assess its actual outcomes. Social implications: Studies show that FB are not less innovative when it comes to implementing new or modified products and services. This contradicts both the opinions and some research results about the conservatism of FB or their stronger orientation towards family goals at the expense of a firm’s growth. Originality/value: This comparative study on FB and NFB innovation fills a gap in the area where knowledge concerning this issue is still scarce in Poland.

Currently, there are visible changes in the external environment, such as a significant increase in competition, shortening of product life cycles, rapidly changing requirements of buyers and the growing importance of non-price instruments. Porto Alegre, a city in south Brazil, was a pioneer in participatory budgeting in the 1990s, and a decade later it hosted the World Social Forum. These days Porto Alegre is the first place in the world with a Sustainable Innovation Zone. The goal of this endeavour is to transform the city into the most innovative and sustainable city in Latin America by 2030. In the article, the author examines the projects completed to date and the entities involved. Then, the author compares the experiences of Porto Alegre and Poznań.

Information management and information flow is an important element in the strategy of developing and running a company. The need to supervise information makes it necessary to implement numerous innovations that improve the method of information management correlated with the proper reception, selection and analysis - in both external and internal information flow. This paper presents the results of research that allowed for the assessment of barriers that arise during the implementation of innovative solutions in small and medium-sized enterprises (service MSEs). On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that the mental barrier is not always crucial from the point of view of modern technologies implementation. And the determination to implement information management innovations may be forced by the necessity of the document exchange acceleration . The success of innovative solutions e.g. in the financial services industry (in SMEs) is closely related to the technological capabilities of the enterprise - the technological barrier is crucial in this type of enterprises. Especially, taking into account the assumption that employees are highly motivated to implement new products.

Introduction/background: Family businesses play a very important role in modern economic processes around the world in both developed and developing countries. Family companies are currently experiencing higher and more complicated requirements, which are directed to them from the environment. The increase in the above requirements is a derivative of the increasing variability of this environment, but also of the fact that the set of people, entities, and often social groups interested in the activities of a given business that has been expanded.Aim of the paper: The aim of this paper is to characterize the process of perception of the environment of companies and to identify pro-innovation perception of the environment in family firms on the basis of Oslo Manual 2018 guidelines. Materials and methods: This research is a part of a project carried out in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness of family and non-family businesses – a comparative analysis in selected areas. Stage II. Innovation: family and non-family businesses in Poland based on methodological assumptions of Oslo Manual. The survey was conducted from June to August 2020 by the Center for Research and Knowledge Transfer of the University of Economics in Katowice. Results and conclusions: The presented results of empirical research indicate selected areas of perception of the environment in innovation processes from the perspective of family firms. Based on the presented results, it can be observed that family firms should pay special attention to monitoring the environment of the market on which they operate.

Introduction/background: Achieving competitive dominance is a challenge for every company operating on the market and for management team throughout the whole world. In order to achieve distinctive competence, the companies are forced to look for such unique solutions that would enable to achieve dominance and that are not available for other business entities. The study presents the results of empirical research verifying the relationship between innovation and market success of enterprises in the metal industry. By analyzing the determinants of innovation and market success, the existence of a significant relationship between the variables was confirmed. Aim of the paper: The author of this paper conducted empirical research and analyzed their results in the area of innovation in order to identify the relationship between the success of metal industry enterprises and market success. Materials and methods: The research covers the study of the innovativeness of enterprises and the analysis of the success rates of enterprises in the metal industry. The research was carried out using the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) method in the form of a questionnaire to be completed on a computer by the respondent and a paper questionnaire also for self-completion. Results and conclusions: The research outcome was to indicate the relationship between the determinants of the company's success and their innovative activity, and to identify the strength of the impact between the variables.

Historia nowoczesnych mostów wiszących notuje kilka ewolucyjnych zwrotów, które wpłynęły na rozwój i innowacje techniczne związane z mostownictwem. W ciągu ostatnich 200 lat można było zaobserwować parę takich istotnych reorientacji projektowych, m.in. zastąpienie płytowych łańcuchów wiązkami drutu, wprowadzenie głębokich usztywnień ustroju nośnego czy integracja kratownicowych dźwigarów z pomostem drogowym.

Background: As the terms innovation, innovation strategy and especially cooperative innovation strategy are owned and discussed by many business disciplines, they can have various definitions. But a defined innovation strategy is the first step to enable a generation of innovation in a constant way. There are different approaches how a strategy can be defined. One common approach of an innovation strategy which includes the idea of an exploratory and cooperative strategy is the Open Innovation method. It describes three possible cooperation archetypes of an organization and its environment. Caused by the increased importance of startups and their innovation approaches a transfer of the common Open Innovation approach to a cooperation between established organization and startups is the aim of this article and results in the description of the startup orientated cooperative innovation (SOCI) strategy. Methods: This article gives at first an introduction in the topic of innovation and innovation strategy and its different approaches. The Open Innovation approach is described and in a further step the transfer to the new framework of (SOCI) strategies is presented. Result: As a result, the paper presents a new framework for three archetypes of SOCI-strategies. Three archetypes of SOCI-strategies were identified, by relating the three archetypes of Open Innovation to cooperations between established companies and startups. The three SOCI-strategies are: Buy/rent a startup, spin-off and startup in coupled process. Conclusion: The SOCI framework can be seen as a helpful to categorized cooperations between established companies and startups in context of generation innovation and gives an overview which archetypes of startup cooperations are possible.

Przedstawiono współczesne problemy badawcze metalowo-szklanych konstrukcji fasad budynków użyteczności publicznej. Omówiono rodzaje badań eksperymentalnych oraz symulacje numeryczne. Prezentowane badania posłużyły również do tworzenia innowacyjnych rozwiązań struktur elewacyjnych. Nowoczesne oprogramowanie umożliwia integrację badań eksperymentalnych z symulacjami numerycznymi oraz daje możliwość wykonywania badań w zakresie zmęczenia materiałowego, trwałości i niezawodności elementów i konstrukcji budowlanych.

The article presents current research problems of metal and glass structures of facades of public buildings. The article presents types of experimental research and numerical simulations. The article describes tests and assessments of modern solutions for facade elements and structures introduced to the construction market. Modern software allows for the integration of experimental tests with numerical simulations and gives the possibility to perform tests in the field of material fatigue, durability and reliability of building elements and structures.
