Biomaterials based on silicon compounds are considered ideal building blocks of hybrid materials due to their unique structures and excellent performance. This review article highlights the selected achievements published by the Biomaterials Chemistry Research Group led by Professor Łukasz John, working at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Wrocław, Poland. Paper deals with specific issues in the field of polysiloxanes and cage-like silsesquioxane-based hybrid materials, ranging from monomer functionalization and materials preparation to biomedical applications and tissue engineering. The findings reported in the original papers are summarized, and the challenges and prospects in the biomaterials field are also discussed for further development and exploitation.

Completely condensed POSS compounds have a cage structure built of Si-O bonds, which makes their electronic properties similar to those of silica and silicates. Moreover, due to their relatively inelastic structure, they impose a coordination geometry on the metal atom, imitating the geometry imposed by silica. Due to the above-mentioned properties, homogeneous models based on silsesquioxanes may not only allow for a better understanding of the nature of heterogeneous catalysts at the molecular level, but also may act as valuable catalysts themselves. Many coordination compounds of main group metals, transition metals and lanthanides have already been obtained. From among the group 13 metals of which this work is concerned, coordination entities of boron, aluminum, gallium, thallium, and indium have been prepared and analyzed so far. They turned out to be suitable models for heterogeneous catalysts, in some cases showing catalytic properties themselves.

W artykule omówiono zasadę pomiaru emisji zaburzeń elektromagnetycznych promieniowanych generowanych przez podmiejskie elektryczne zespoły trakcyjne w trakcji wielokrotnej. Przedstawiono metodykę pomiarową, dopuszczalne wartości natężenia pola magnetycznego i elektrycznego (wg normy PN-EN 50121-3-1) w trakcie jazdy i podczas postoju elektrycznych zespołów trakcyjnych. Zaprezentowano przykładowe wyniki pomiarów oraz dokonano oceny otrzymanych przebiegów.

This paper discussed the measurement of radiated emissions of electromagnetic disturbances generated by electric traction units in multiple traction. The measurement methodology, permissible strength values of a magnetic and electric field according to PN-EN 50121-3-1 standard during the running and during the layover of the electric multiple units are submitted. The article presents sample results from the measurements, interpretation and evaluation of the obtained results.
