Purpose: The main goal of the article was to conduct a comparative analysis of two different inventory management methods, identify their advantages and disadvantages, and present recommendations for optimizing the inventory. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted in the form of a case study in a manufacturing company, in which two approaches to inventory management were compared: traditional, using an Excel spreadsheet and modern - using a WMS system. The analysis was based on empirical data, observations of logistics processes and benchmarking assessment of efficiency indicators. Findings: The study results showed a significant advantage of the WMS system over traditional methods. WMS allows for more accurate inventory management, faster order fulfillment, reducing the number of errors and complaints, as well as reducing unit costs of warehouse operations. The key conclusion is the recommendation to fully implement WMS throughout the entire warehouse. Research limitations/implications: The analysis is based on empirical data from one operating environment in which the WMS system was already partially implemented, which could have influenced the dynamics and scale of the achieved effects. Moreover, the study does not take into account the full costs of implementing a WMS system from scratch in organizations that do not have IT infrastructure or trained staff. In future research, it is worth expanding the scope to compare different types of warehouses (e.g. high-bay, cold stores, distribution centers) and also take into account the long-term effects of implementing WMS and RFID technologies, including the impact on employee turnover, organizational culture and operational continuity. Practical implications: The study results provide practical recommendations for logistics and manufacturing companies that are considering implementing WMS systems. It has been shown that even partial implementation of the system can lead to a quick improvement in the efficiency and quality of warehouse services. Social implications: Improving work organization in warehouses can lead to reduced employee stress, reduced human errors and improved operational safety. Better customer service has a positive impact on business relationships and consumer satisfaction. Originality/value: This study adds original value to the literature on the subject by directly comparing two commonly used inventory management methods in a real warehouse environment.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze autonomous mobile robot (AMR) technologies on warehouse and inventory management in a manufacturing company from the automotive industry, with a particular focus on internal transport automation and cost optimization. Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on a case analysis of a manufacturing enterprise in southern Poland. A diagnostic approach was used, including the analysis of internal logistics processes, technical specifications of AMR solutions, cost-benefit comparisons with traditional forklifts, and vendor evaluations in relation to industry standards such as VDA 5050. Findings: The results confirm that AMR implementation leads to enhanced flexibility, increased work safety, and long-term cost efficiency in internal transport. The need for various AMR types was identified based on the load type, and the introduction of standards like VDA 5050 enabled successful integration of multi-vendor solutions. Research limitations/implications: The analysis is limited to a single company from the automotive sector, which may constrain the generalizability of the findings. Future research should investigate implementation outcomes across different sectors and company sizes. Practical implications: The findings support logistics and operations managers in identifying key criteria for successful AMR deployment, including investment planning, route optimization, and systems integration. The structured implementation approach can serve as a blueprint for similar enterprises. Social implications: Automation of internal transport contributes to improving workplace safety, reducing human error, and creating more ergonomic working conditions, while also fostering skills development in modern logistics technologies. This article aims to investigate the impact of allowable human energy expenditure (HEE) of order pickers on the throughput of workers in manual order zone picking systems MOP. The method used in this research is the Monte Carlo simulation, used while considering many human and job factors. The results showed that a worker’s gender and an item’s weight have little effect on the HEE. On the other hand, body weight, walking speed, distance travelled, and the targeted zone significantly impacted the HEE, rest allowance, and throughput. For example, male pickers at a weight of 75 kg can move up to speed to 1 m/s and pick up items weighing up to 5 kg without reaching the allowable HEE rate, equal to 4.3 kcal/min, and, thus, no rest is needed. Female pickers at a weight of 75 kg reach the allowable HEE rate, equal to 2.6 kcal/min, at a very low speed of approximately 0.1 m/s when picking up items up to 5 kg, and, thus, frequent rest is needed, which leads to low throughput. To increase the throughput of female pickers, they can be assigned to pick up lighter items. Utilising Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate the HEE in MOP while considering many factors.
In this article, the results of a series of selected algorithms used during the picking of goods in a warehouse, assuming the order of stacking goods in transport containers is predetermined, are analysed, simulated and evaluated. The importance of the development of this type of algorithms is the possibility of reducing the waiting time of both transport and goods in order to reduce the total cost of the picking process. Afterwards, the results will be analysed by varying the parameters and evaluating the solutions. The aim is to show the results of various picking algorithms when their subsequent stacking order is predetermined, and to use these to identify relationships and define guidelines that could be used to support the design of similar picking algorithms.

Dopiero wtedy możliwe będzie osiąganie optymalnej funkcjonalności w codziennej pracy, a w sytuacjach kryzysowych natychmiastowe, sprawne i bezbłędne przeciwdziałanie kryzysowi. Pozwoli to także na spełnienie wymagań prawnych w zakresie zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa i śledzenia żywności – traceability.

System-oriented and process-oriented warehouse management is a necessity nowadays. It is not possible without an automatic identification system that uses widely accepted GS1 standards. Automatic identification used in warehouse processes does not, of course, solve all the company problems in warehouse logistics. Please note that ADC techniques imposed on existing, unverified processes will not bring much new and can complicate the users live. ADC techniques should be used only after analyzing and correctly defining the processes in the warehouse. Then it will be possible to achieve optimum functionality in daily work, and an immediate and error-free emergency response in crisis situations. It will also allow meeting the legal requirements for ensuring food safety and traceability.
