This article begins by exploring social distance and migration from a theoretical perspective. The following sections present the views of students on social distance towards migrants, specifically concerning their potential presence in the Republic of Poland. The survey was structured around three life domains and six social roles, as follows: 1) Casual interactions, involving indirect contact with the so-called “Foreigner” in the roles of citizen and neighbour 2) Power/dependence dynamics, examining direct interactions with the “Other” in roles such as co-worker and supervisor; 3) Family/intimate settings, covering the acceptability of a marital/partner relationship with the “Other” and their role as a child caregiver. To ensure robust findings, a social distance index comprising various data elements was developed.
The evaluation of collision avoidance strategies for special - purpose unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) operating in dynamic environments with human presence is presented in this study. The autonomous wheeled vehicle equipped with an armament module for combat and reconnaissance tasks is described considering mission specifications and off-road usage scenarios. The main operational parameters are outlined, and the obstacle detection features integrated into the PERUN vehicle are introduced. The control system architecture is presented, along with installed sensors and their perception capabilities of surround ing object detection. Safety considerations in operational conditions where human presence force appropriate collision avoidance actions are discussed. Real field tests conducted in diverse weather and environmental conditions, such as industrial area and unstructured terrains, are shown to demonstrate the system's performance. Carried out tests show that the collision avoidance system enables obstacle detection and proving the effectiveness of steering strategies for the platform's navigation. The safe operation of unmanned systems in environments with human presence is crucial for the successful deployment and scalability of UGV technologies.

Współczesne budynki stawiają wysokie wymagania w zakresie komfortu użytkowników i efektywności energetycznej, jednak w praktyce zapewnienie satysfakcji wszystkim osobom przebywającym w pomieszczeniach nadal pozostaje wyzwaniem. Ze względu na znaczne różnice w indywidualnym odczuwaniu warunków środowiskowych przez poszczególne osoby, coraz większą uwagę poświęca się Spersonalizowanym Systemom Kontroli Środowiska (PECS, ang. Personal Environmental Control Systems). Systemy te umożliwiają lokalną regulację mikroklimatu w bezpośrednim otoczeniu użytkownika zgodnie z jego preferencjami, co pozwala zwiększyć komfort cieplny, poprawić jakość powietrza oraz zoptymalizować zużycie energii. W artykule omówiono wpływ środowiska wewnętrznego na zdrowie, komfort i produktywność użytkowników budynków. Zwrócono uwagę na ograniczenia tradycyjnych systemów ogrzewania, wentylacji i klimatyzacji i przedstawiono zalety rozwiązań PECS. Przedstawiono także przykłady komercyjnych wdrożeń PECS oraz wyniki pilotażowych badań prowadzonych na Politechnice Śląskiej. W artykule podkreślono potrzebę dalszych badań nad integracją PECS z inteligentnymi systemami zarządzania budynkiem (BMS) oraz optymalizacją algorytmów sterowania, aby w pełni wykorzystać ich potencjał w kontekście zdrowia publicznego, komfortu użytkowników i efektywności energetycznej budynków.

Modern buildings impose high demands on user comfort and energy efficiency. However, in practice, ensuring satisfaction for all occupants remains a challenge. Due to significant differences in how individuals perceive environmental conditions, increasing attention is being given to Personal Environmental Control Systems (PECS). These systems enable local adjustment of the microclimate in the user’s immediate surroundings according to their preferences, which helps to increase thermal comfort, improve air quality, and optimize energy consumption. The article discusses the impact of the indoor environment on the health, comfort, and productivity of building occupants. It highlights the limitations of traditional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and presents the advantages of PECS solutions. The article also reviews examples of commercial PECS implementations and the results of pilot studies conducted at the Silesian University of Technology. It emphasizes the need for further research on integrating PECS with intelligent Building Management Systems (BMS) and optimizing control algorithms to fully harness their potential in terms of public health, user comfort, and building energy efficiency.
The paper presents a wide range of possibilities for the use of drones in terms of human safety, the environment and technical facilities. In accordance with the concept of the paper, these areas are divided into four main sources of hazards and in each of these cases the possibilities of using an unmanned aircraft are presented. Hazards caused by flooding, the environment, a fire and those occurring on construction sites are subject to analysis. The main aim of the paper was to mark areas of hazard using a grid superimposed on a map of an area by a specialised drone camera. Based on this information, it is possible to define a risk map of hazards to people and property. In the case of flooding, the depth of the river spillway was determined according to the width of the river channel, in this case affecting the safety of residents of a town. For the environmental aspect, the surface area of a water table and its depth in the area of fields, meadows and pastures were determined. This is also important from the agricultural point of view, including determining the extent of crop damage. In the case of a fire, the use of a drone enabled the assessment of the damaged surface of a building as a result of high temperatures, including the construction of a situation plan related to the assessment of the building’s structure in the context of its continued use. The final area is the safety of a construction site. Here, in turn, an important objective was to map the occupational risks for those working there and, in particular, to identify the sources of dangerous, harmful and nuisance factors. All of the diagrams presented confirmed the widespread use of UAVs in the diagnosis of occupational safety levels. With this technology, it is easier to diagnose sources of hazards and develop preventive measures.

Dokonano przeglądu dostępnej literatury dotyczącej β-glukanów pod kątem ich prozdrowotnego działania na organizm człowieka. Przedstawiono główne źródła pozyskiwania β-glukanów oraz zróżnicowano ich strukturę chemiczną w zależności od pochodzenia. Aktualne wyniki badań potwierdzają, że β-glukany wykazują działanie obniżające stężenie cholesterolu całkowitego, frakcji nie-HDL i LDL w surowicy krwi, korzystnie wpływają na metabolizm glukozy oraz mają właściwości antyoksydacyjne, przeciwzapalne, immunostymulujące, przeciwnowotworowe i prebiotyczne.

A review, with 50 refs., of β-glucans used as food components. Main sources of β-glucans, their chem. structure, viscosity, rheol. properties, texture and sensory characteristics were presented. In particular, their effects on concns. of cholesterol, non-HDL and LDL fractions in blood serum and on glucose metabolism as well as their antioxidant, immunostimulant, anti-cancer and prebiotic properties were taken into consideration.

Core mechanisms include public consultations and participatory budgeting, as legislated, enhancing co-management between authorities and residents. To successfully implement Smart City 3.0, it is vital to build a partnership based on mutual trust between local authorities and communities. Opinions must not only be expressed, but factored into city planning and development. Advisory bodies like city youth councils illustrate this approach, engaging youth in meaningful roles and ensuring their interests are represented. This paper investigates the vital role of community members in the creating of smart city. Additionally, the paper conducts a comprehensive review of various models of participation, evaluating their respective strengths and weaknesses within the context of smart city development.
This paper explores concerns regarding the design, implementation, and management of alarms in DP vessels that, while in operation, need an incredibly high level of accuracy along with high reliability and safe operations. The Human, Technological, and Organizational factors (HTO) method is primarily used as analysis tool to find weaknesses in alarm handling during DP operations. The research focuses on results collected from Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO) and instructors. Findings from the survey are presented and compared to the results from past accidents and technical requirements from Petroleum Safety Agency Norway via YA 711. Three accidents from past are referred to picturize the findings from the survey results. Furthermore, the conclusion is given with recommendations reflecting the findings from the survey. The main findings are an urgency to establish a centralized marine accident investigation system which enforces learning and recommendation to make operations safer. In addition, the survey also suggests that prohibition of clients or limiting their access to the bridge is necessary. Manufacturers could focus on research and development of alarm prioritization, on structuring and presentation, and profiting by taking feedback from end-users to make DP operations safer.
P. Crutzen and E. Stoermer’s concept that humanity has entered a new geological epoch – the Anthropocene, in which the human species has become the leading geological force, is the subject of multidisciplinary scientific research. The debate on the Age of Man reconnects the sphere of facts and the normative sphere, while still continuing the eco-developmental concept oriented towards the search for new socio-economic solutions. One of the assumptions of the naturalistic narrative of the Anthropocene is the conviction that human action has the greatest impact on the environment and we are responsible for its condition. Often compared in literature to other great revolutions in science – Copernicus‘ and Darwin‘s theory – the paradigm shift in thinking in the Anthropocene forces us to rethink the key concepts of classical philosophy: human, nature, responsibility. The article presents an outline of the ethical debate on responsibility in the Anthropocene, considering its collective and individual aspects, and introduces a new concept of co-existence, which integrates ecosystems with the technosphere.
The purpose of this article is to introduce some of the problems arising from the rapid development and raising the status of machines and the increasing disregard for human rights in the context of the use of cognitive technologies. Cognitive technologies are highly acclaimed and are being introduced into almost all aspects of life, especially in business. The article asks the question of whether the use of these technologies leads to a gradual humanization of machines while dehumanizing humans. The article is purely theoretical and based on a literature study of selected bibliographic items. On the basis of the analyzed texts an attempt was made to introduce the concept of artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies and algorithms. It also attempts to diagnose the state of work on the regulation of the legal situation related to the development of artificial intelligence and cognitive technologies, as well as the status of robots. The philosophical concept of dehumanization and its selected examples are also outlined. The discussion leads to the conclusion that the pace of development of cognitive technologies, overtaking the human ability to comprehend them, poses a threat of machines getting out of human control.

The research considers the aspect of the formation of interior lightning in conditions of extensive expenses on heating. In this regard there is important to study features not only of places and model of lightning, but also generation of heat in order to minimize expenses and find alternative technical solutions for building functioning. The relevance is determined by the fact that the problem of low efficiency of thermal energy used to ensure an appropriate microclimate in buildings is typical for many regions. The purpose of this article is to study features not only of places and model of lighting but also generation of heat to minimize expenses and find alternative technical solutions for building functioning. In the work, the methods of calculation methods and mathematical models such as the exergy model of humans were used. The authors have determined that daylight is only one of the complex solutions of the matter of building energy efficiency. Providing the conditions of heating comfort indoors is not less important in the conditions of increasing requirements to energy conservation. The authors consider the compromise between these two requirements without harming human health the main challenge to the energy conservation specialists. The authors have developed the model, which evaluates not only the achievements of technical parameters, but also orientation toward the model of energy consumption of human. The practical application of the developed methodology allows for forecasting not only building heating based on projected technical indicators but also tailored to individual needs.

W artykule przedstawiono aspekty projektowania oświetlenia wewnętrznego w warunkach dużych nakładów na ogrzewanie. O trafności tematu decyduje fakt, że problem niskiej efektywności wykorzystania energii cieplnej w celu zapewnienia odpowiedniego mikroklimatu w budynkach jest typowy dla wielu regionów. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie cech nie tylko lokalizacji i modelu oświetlenia, ale także wydzielania ciepła, aby zminimalizować wydatki i znaleźć alternatywne rozwiązania techniczne dla funkcjonowania budynku. W pracy posłużono się metodami obliczeniowymi oraz modelami matematycznymi, takimi jak model egzergii człowieka. Ustalono, że światło dzienne to tylko jedno z kompleksowych rozwiązań kwestii energooszczędności budynków. Zapewnienie warunków komfortu cieplnego w pomieszczeniach jest równie ważne w obliczu rosnących wymagań dotyczących oszczędzania energii. Autorzy uważają, że kompromis między tymi dwoma wymogami bez szkody dla zdrowia ludzkiego jest głównym wyzwaniem dla specjalistów od oszczędzania energii. Opracowano model, który ocenia nie tylko osiągane parametry techniczne, ale także orientację na model zużycia energii przez człowieka. Praktyczne zastosowanie tej metodyki pozwala prognozować ogrzewanie budynku nie tylko na podstawie przewidywanych wskaźników technicznych, ale także z uwzględnieniem indywidualnych potrzeb.

Lighting in LED technology is becoming more and more popular. One of the most frequently used types are strips or modules containing LEDs, i.e. linear elements. They create new possibilities of creating internal lighting and enable various ways of its implications. The article concerns the issues of using linear lighting in LED technology in residential interiors. It deals with the problems of compositions created with the use of linear lighting in both vertical and horizontal planes. It also draws attention to the growing popularity of this type of solutions. It also touches upon the problem of the color temperature of lighting and its impact on humans.
Objective: The purpose of this article is to justify the need for interdisciplinary research on demographic change due to the need to prepare for the challenges arising from many public policies, such as family, labour market, education and social security. The identified challenges and areas imply a broad reflection, which should focus on a holistic approach to active social policy and the labour market. Design/methodology/approach: The theses presented in the article were verified using a: literature review, statistical research and comparative analysis. Findings: The changes, processes and forecasts presented in the article indicate that in order to reduce mismatches in the labour market in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, measures should be taken to build the future shape of urban policies – especially in the phase of aging of the society. Not taking this type of action may delay preparation of Jastrzębie-Zdrój for changes in the age structure of inhabitants, whichseems inevitable. Originality/value: The article enriches knowledge and develops a discussion in the area of dynamically developing demographic changes. Based on the conclusions presented in the article, it seems that the biggest contemporary challenge for the community, institutions and people creating Jastrzębie-Zdrój’s future may be maintaining the longest possible professional activity of the aging population of Jastrzębie-Zdrój while building a modern active social policy and labour market corresponding to the economic structure of cities.
Purpose: the main purpose of the article is to justify the need for rational inclusion in the scientific and economic policy of scientific assessments and analyzes of the effects of demographic changes on labor resources and Poland’s educational system. Findings: Based on the content of this article, it can be stated that the effect of regressive demographic change due to the ongoing process of aging of the society will affect the labor market and education. In this light, the main challenge facing the European Union and Poland is to ensure a properly educated and skilled society that will effectively use their potential to achieve the assumed social and economic goals. Originality: the article enriches knowledge and develops discussion in the area of need to build a modern education system that responds to contemporary and future challenges. This is a system that, in line with economic goals and megatrends, will determine the successful development of the two most important attributes of human and social capital in the modern world - the universality of ideas and a dynamic competent society.

Design/methodology/approach: the theses presented in the article have been verified using: literature review, critical literature analysis, document research and comparative analysis. Findings: based on content of this article, a future emerges in which man, industry and surrounding reality will be shaped by automation developing with a hitherto unknown dynamics. This phenomenon may lead to the disappearance of a world dominated by the industrial age and the transition to a new era determined by technologies, dominated by data flow and its analysis. In automated economies, knowledge that is exemplified by the knowledge society that creates innovative solutions has become a key capital. It seems that automation in the context of economies' competitiveness will determine the need to raise the level of education and of competences, and to create and control new knowledge. Originality/value: the article enriches knowledge and develops discussion in the area of dynamically developing automation. Thanks to the knowledge presented in the article, it can be concluded that the decisive role in creating the development of labor market and education can be overcome by breaking social and professional barriers to automation processes - which may favor the social dimension of the individual and strengthen the sense of human life fullness.

Implementation of European directives is closely related to the quality of production and the associated operational safety, maintenance of machines and mechanical systems, both mobile or stationary, in order to reduce the dynamic load (vibration and noise) on the working environment, not only during their operating state but also during their design, production, and setting of the vibration isolation components. Reducing the dynamic load of mechanical systems and their components is reflected in the working environment by reduced emissions and immissions of noise and vibration. The presented paper investigates the methods and conditions for noise and vibration control, focusing mainly on increasing the quality of rotating machine components, such as bearings by means of effective vibration isolation of the machines. The solution of this problem requires theoretical analysis and methodology for the measurement of the mechanical systems involved. The results of the vibroacoustic measurements were analysed in terms of the low frequency vibration and noise level (quality) of bearings and conditions for effective vibration isolation of the machines using vibroacoustic diagnostic method. Furthermore, the impact on the working environment was also analysed. Finally, the paper suggests some actions to be taken to effectively reduce the unwanted vibrosound energy in working places, also using recycled material as a vibration isolation element.
Sustainable development when understood as a process of social, economic and environmental change that ensures a balance between profit and development costs, is a kind of ethical project. The fundamental assumption behind the implementation of the idea of sustainable development is, therefore, the awareness of holding responsibility both in the context of actions of whole companies as well as individuals. The issue of responsibility covers many aspects and problems, hence, it is worth considering the concept of responsibility in its theoretical and practical dimension. The aim of this article is to present selected philosophical concepts of understanding responsibility.
The authors of the article, based on literature studies, notes a current significant increase in the role and importance of professional preparation of employees, which is closely related to the rate of civilizational progress, including the extremely dynamically developing automation of numerous industrial and non-industrial areas. In this light, it seems that breaking the mental barriers to the automation process in order to strengthen its acceptance could play a decisive role in creating the development of the labor market and education
The article proposes a phenomenological model of a passenger car. The model includes the biomechanical model of human bodies in the sitting position of Muksian and Nash acting as passengers, while the driver’s weight has been reduced to the concentrated weight of the loading seat. The research carried out in this study consisted of passing the vehicle through a transverse obstacle along the so-called speed bump. Vehicle passes through the threshold at three different speeds: 10km/h, 20km/h, and 30km/h. The purpose of the conducted experiments was to initially estimate the values of accelerations acting especially on the passenger at selected driving speeds. On the basis of conducted tests, it was possible to verify the numerical model of the vehicle overcoming the obstacle on the road. This approach allows the use of the proposed model to verify the forces and accelerations affecting the passenger, specified before any selected specific biomechanical model of the human person, for example, a model of pregnant women in this configuration allows us to estimate the forces and accelerations acting on the embryo while overcoming some obstacles on the road.
