W 2009 r. mija 90 lat od powstania Międzynarodowej Organizacji Pracy ILO oraz 50 lat od utworzenia Międzynarodowego Centrum Informacji o Bezpieczeństwie i Higienie Pracy CIS oraz o światowej sieci Centrów CIS, tworzącej międzynarodowy system informacji o bezpieczeństwie i higienie pracy. Międzynarodowe Centrum CIS działa w ramach ILO i ma siedzibę w Genewie. Sieć obejmuje około 155 Krajowych, Współpracujących i Regionalnych Centrów CIS, których rolę pełnią instytucje związane z tą problematyką w ponad 100 krajach. Są to instytuty naukowe, ministerstwa pracy i zdrowia, inspekcje pracy, związki pracodawców i pracowników, stowarzyszenia itp. Omówiono powstanie, początki i etapy rozwoju działań Centrum w Genewie oraz całej sieci, a także obecne osiągnięcia i produkty. Przedstawiono krótko także działania Polskiego Krajowego Centrum CIS, którego rolę pełni od 1960 r. Centralny Instytut Ochrony Pracy – Państwowy Instytut Badawczy (CIOP-PIB). System informacji CIS jest ważnym źródłem informacji o bezpieczeństwie i zdrowiu w pracy, a jednocześnie przykładem historii rozwoju automatyzacji informacji naukowej – od kart perforowanych do potężnego portalu internetowego. Jest także przykładem wagi i potrzeby współpracy międzynarodowej w zakresie informacji naukowej dotyczącej nie tylko bhp, ale każdej dziedziny wiedzy.

In 2009 there is 90th Anniversary of setting up the International Labour Organization ILO as well as 50th Anniversary of organizing the International Occupational Safety and Health Informationa Centre CIS and the network of CIS Centres. They form the international OSH information system CIS. The International CIS Centre is located in the ILO headquarter in Geneva. The network consists of about 155 National, Collaborating and Regional CIS Centres, which role is played by OSH institutions in more then 100 countries. Among them there are: scientific institutes, labour and health ministries, labour inspections, employers and employees unions, associations etc. The setting up, beginnings and development phases of CIS Centre in Geneva and the whole network as well as the present achievements and products are briefly described as well as the activities of the Polish National CIS Centre. Its role has been played by the Central Institute for Labor Protection – National Research Institute CIOP-PIB since 1960-61. The CIS information system is an important OSH information source and as well – the example of development history of scientific information automatization development – from perforated card to powerful Internet portal. It is also an example of the significance and need of international cooperation in the frame of scientific information not only in OSH, but in every field of knowledge.
