The paper presents the results of research on the role of cartographic products and high-definition (HD) mapping in the autonomous vehicle industry. The research methodology includes a review of professional literature and a qualitative interview with an expert from the autonomous transport industry (Blees company). Blees, founded in 2019, specializes in autonomous minibuses, which aim to ensure safe and fast passenger transportation. The company implements advanced and broad transport implementations in cities and municipalities, including Gliwice, Jaworzno, and Sosnowiec. The analysis covers the characteristics of automation levels according to the SAE J3016 standard and technical specifications of sensors, such as LiDAR, RADAR, and GNSS-RTK. A synthetic review of industry applications (TomTom RoadDNA, HERE HD Live Map) and technological solutions was performed with particular emphasis on the SLAM algorithm and Digital Twin Cities concept. The study confirms that contemporary cartography has evolved from human-centred representations into a digital foundation for machine perception, providing a ‘virtual sensor’ for precise localization and safe driving. The results are presented in reference to the practical experiences of the Blees BB-1 autonomous minibus deployment. Cartography has become the digital foundation for perception of autonomous systems. HD maps serve as a virtual sensor with an unlimited field of view. The SLAM algorithm enables navigation in the absence of satellite signals. 128-beam LiDAR allows for mapping of road geometry with a precision down to once centimetre. Precise spatial data supports environmental sustainability and the smooth flow of urban traffic.

The paper presents the results of a multi-year analysis of the environmental and economic impacts of the operation of vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) compared to Diesel vehicles. The study is based on real data collected by the EPIC (Environmental Performance Integrated Centre) project, which monitored fuel consumption, CO₂ and NOₓ emissions, as well as fleet operating costs during the period 12/2015 - 6/2020. The aim of the paper is to analyse the environmental and economic impacts of operating CNG vehicles compared to Diesel vehicles, based on the data collected during the period under study. The results of the regression analyses confirm that CNG vehicles achieve significantly lower GHG emissions and at the same time bring significant financial savings. Specifically, CNG vehicles emitted approximately 122,504 kg less CO₂ than their Diesel counterparts, a reduction of around 28 %. Emissions of NOₓ were reduced by 65 %, and particulate matter (PM) emissions were approximately 90 % lower for CNG vehicles. Additionally, the regression analysis of fuel costs shows that Diesel fuel costs increase at a significantly higher rate than CNG, making CNG a more cost-effective solution, especially for high-mileage urban transport. Forecast models for the 2015–2030 period indicate a 22 % projected reduction in emissions from CNG vehicles compared to just 7 % for Diesel, and operating costs for CNG are expected to decline further, while Diesel costs continue to rise. CNG thus proves to be an effective transitional fuel in the context of a sustainable mobility and energy transition strategy in the transport sector.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the effectiveness and long-term impact of infrastructure investments implemented at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport between 2010 and 2015. The study evaluates whether the planned operational capacity was achieved and explores the socio-economic and environmental effects on the surrounding region. Design/methodology/approach: An ex-post evaluation approach was applied, combining quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Airport performance indicators such as passenger traffic, runway operations, and financial stability were examined alongside spatial and demographic data from neighbouring areas. The research is grounded in regional growth theory and sustainable infrastructure frameworks and incorporates elements of cost-benefit assessment. Findings: The findings confirm that the main objectives of the investment were fulfilled. The airport exceeded the 5-million-passenger threshold in 2019, validating the expansion strategy. Technical enhancements (e.g., ILS CAT IIIb, increased hourly operations) and improved connectivity supported job creation, land value growth, and urban development. However, challenges such as transport congestion, spatial conflicts, and environmental pressures highlight the need for integrated spatial and infrastructure planning. Research limitations/implications: The research is limited to pre-pandemic data and does not fully capture the long-term outcomes of newer investments. Future studies should examine post-COVID trends, climate resilience, and regional integration within EU transport policy. Practical implications: The paper provides evidence-based insights for policy-makers and infrastructure managers, showing how airport development can support regional strategies and attract complementary investment. It underscores the need for aligning technical capacity with spatial policy and public service infrastructure. Social implications: The investment improved accessibility and quality of life in the Tri-City region. However, it also exposed tensions in local planning and land-use policy. The study suggests that future infrastructure projects should ensure stronger public participation and environmental safeguards. Originality/value: This paper offers a comprehensive ex-post evaluation of a major EU co-financed airport project in Central Europe. It demonstrates the catalytic role of airport infrastructure in regional transformation and contributes empirical evidence relevant to development planning and policy implementation.

Sustainable transport is a concept in which residents’ mobility is provided in an economically efficient, socially acceptable way while minimizing negative environmental impacts. Therefore, it is necessary to develop public transport that can effectively reduce car traffic, particularly in city centres, and compete with private car use. This paper presents a case study of the city of Olsztyn, which, after nearly fifty years without tram services, reintroduced trams in 2015 and expanded the network with two additional lines in 2024. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of this investment on traffic volumes in areas served by the new tram lines. The analysis indicates a clear reduction in car traffic flows in areas served by trams. The results confirm that the development of rail transport can contribute to improved sustainable urban mobility and serve as an effective tool to reduce congestion and vehicle emissions in medium-sized cities. The study employed a literature review and spatial analysis, using data provided by the Olsztyn Road, Greenery, and Transport Authority.
Purpose: This study investigates whether wines imported from the New World generate higher carbon emissions per 0.75L bottle during distribution to Germany than Old World wines and identifies key factors influencing the carbon footprint (CF) in the distribution process. Methodology: The research analyses a large dataset (over 220,000 records) from a primary European logistics provider, applying the EN 16258 standard and EcoTransIT World (ETW) tool to calculate CO2 equivalents for various distribution channels, shipment sizes, and modes of transport. Simulations for New World shipments complement empirical data. Results: Distribution channel, shipment size, and logistics handling significantly influence CF per bottle. Large, direct shipments to retailers have lower CF than small, multi-stop shipments. Contrary to common assumptions, New World wines do not always have a higher CF than Old World wines; logistics networks and shipment handling are critical determinants. Theoretical Contribution: This paper extends the literature by empirically quantifying the impact of logistics variables on wine CF, challenging the generalisation that New World imports are inherently less sustainable. Practical Implications: Findings inform wine importers, retailers, and policymakers on optimising logistics for lower emissions and provide a nuanced basis for consumer sustainability choices.

This article presents the results of our own research on the impact of micromobility infrastructure on tourist preferences in Polish holiday destinations. The aim of the study was to identify the infrastructural elements important for the development of micromobility in resorts in Poland. Using a logistic regression model in a study conducted on a sample of 1000 respondents, six key factors influencing the perception of micromobility were identified. The strongest predictors of positive perception were: availability of bicycle and scooter rentals, infrastructure accompanying cycling paths, and road quality in the holiday destination. The results indicate that for the development of micromobility in tourist destinations, it is necessary to provide comprehensive infrastructure and take local conditions into account. This is particularly important in the context of the inverted mobility pyramid concept, the implementation of which requires understanding tourist preferences and gradually introducing solutions that limit the dominance of car transport in favor of more sustainable forms of movement.
In recent years, cycling has become an important part of urban transport, providing a fast and convenient means of transport in densely populated and congested urban areas. The dynamic growth of cycling brings with it new challenges related to cyclist safety. This article presents a study aimed at identifying high-risk areas for cyclists in a medium-sized city in Central Europe, using spatial data analysis. The proposed methodology combines GIS-based spatial analysis techniques, in particular heat map visualization and Getis-Ord Gi* hotspot detection, with a customized risk classification system that considers environmental and infrastructure variables affecting cyclist safety. A criteria assessment system was used, assigning points to conditions such as lighting, weather, road surface quality, and infrastructure completeness. The locations with the highest risk scores were then examined in relation to areas with the highest traffic intensity to identify high-risk zones where infrastructure deficiencies coincide with increased exposure of cyclists, thus indicating increased vulnerability to hazards. A classification system was developed to assess environmental and infrastructure conditions based on their potential impact on cyclist safety. The results show that high-risk areas are concentrated in central districts, along major thoroughfares with heavy traffic, with incomplete infrastructure, and in densely populated districts in the south, north, and west of the city. The results provide a basis for urban mobility planning, enabling targeted measures to improve cyclist safety. Furthermore, the proposed approach can be transferred to other medium-sized European cities with comparable infrastructure, demographics, and transport dynamics.

W latach 2014–2019 odnotowano dynamiczny wzrost i rekordową liczbę wypożyczeń (w 2016 – ponad 773 tys.) i drastyczne załamanie popytu po pandemii (zaledwie 76 tys. w 2021) i zmianę sposobu finansowania. W ramach szukania nowych, bardziej korzystnych finansowo rozwiązań miasto Lublin przejęło organizację i zarządzanie systemem transportu rowerowego od operatora zewnętrznego w 2022 roku. The turn of the 20th and 21st century has brought a tremendous interest in the usage of city bikes in the urban areas. The high potential of the domestic two-wheel market combined with permanent road congestion led city dwellers to use bicycles as a mean of transportation. Bike sharing, a public bicycle renting system, is a transport service which allows users to rent bikes for short-term usage. Different generations of bike rentals (I through V) granted users the ability to ride city bikes under very favorable conditions. It was the workings of “Cities for Bikes” associations and the changes in law beneficial to cyclists, which led to the funding of the first city bike rental in Kraków in 2008, and later in other cities. The first decade of city bike usage was a time of market studies, analysis, and conclusions concerning bike sharing. The review of domestic bike rental studies confirms the existence of considerable demand along with various issues, challenges and expectations from city dwellers wanting to use the bike rental service. The total amount of cycle paths and roads available for cyclists in Poland and in Lublin over the last decade is analyzed in this article. In 2014, when the Lublin City Bike was founded, 40 bike rental stations provided 400 bicycles. This article presents a detailed analysis of how the Lublin City Bike operated and how it was developed in 2014–2022. It also shows changes in the number of rental stations, available bikes and statistics concerning the number of rental transactions as well as registered users. In the years 2014-2019, there has been dynamic growth and a record number of rentals (with over 773,000 in 2016) while the pandemic brought a drastic collapse in the demand (only 76,000 in 2021) and a change in financing. The City of Lublin decided to take over managing the system of bike rental from the outside vendor in 2022 in order to find more cost-effective solutions. The Lublin City Bike has been entrusted to the Municipal Transport Company Lublin therefore integrating city bike with bus and trolley bus transport.
Projekt CoMobility ma na celu identyfikację czynników, które mogą skłonić ludzi do zmiany zachowań transportowych. Umożliwi to wypracowanie narzędzi pozwalających miastom planować i wprowadzać rozwiązania zrównoważonego transportu i aktywnej mobilności.

The CoMobility project aims to identify the factors that can encourage people to change their transport behaviour. This will enable the development of tools allowing cities to plan and implement sustainable transport and active mobility solutions. This is a very important issue given that the number of cars per 1,000 inhabitants in Poland is one of the highest in Europe. This has a significant impact on the environment, the health and fitness of the population, as well as on the operating conditions of cities. In an effort to popularise active mobility and reduce the “cult of the car”, we refer to solutions applied in various European and Polish cities.
