The article is an analysis of the biopolitics in regards to the circumstances, systematization, the implications and significance for the field of security science. Author evaluated the position of naturalist, politicist and modern theories that refer to the thought of Michel Foucault, Giorgio Agamben, Antonii Negri and Michael Hardt. The author also focuses on presenting past concepts, subjects and object of biopolitics and try to define this term. This is difficult challenge because biopolitics is the result of the rapid development technology entering the biological spheres of human life (eg biotechnology, bioengineering). From the point of view of the security sciences, biopolitics, in each of the three positions identified by Thomas Lemke, is a very important subject matter of the study. It is one of the scientific disciplines in social sciences that deals primarily with the non-military threats. Biopolitics may interfere in the sphere of operation of state institutions, governmental and local governmen, entrepreneurs and social organizations. Research in the field of biophysical security determines the theoretical foundations and development of international, national and social security systems and should serve the biological protection of human life and the environment in which it operates.

The paper presents the key published results of experimental research and numerical (CFD) simulations concerning the flow characteristics of multi-hole orifices. Published results confirm reduction of pressure loss in the flow through the multi-holed orifice in comparison to a standard single-hole orifice. However, often quoted increased resistance of measuring multi-hole orifices to the flow disturbances is not adequately documented and needs further investigation.
The article describes the process of signal conditioning for examination of acoustic noise correlation properties in shallow water. Knowledge of these properties is very important for the design processes of passive and active hydroacoustic systems. This paper focuses on the above issue from the point of view of passive sonar. In sonar systems, signal processing algorithms operate on both useful acoustic signals, and accompanying noise. Quantitative estimation of the correlation properties of acoustic noise enables an accurate determination of detection conditions. This will verify the validity of certain commonly used simplified models in simulations of hydroacoustic systems. The article presents how the measurement system was constructed, and the structure of files for storing measurement data. It describes the processing algorithm developed for the measured signal conditioning. Research results are presented and discussed.
The article presents methods that help in the elimination of mutual clutter as well as the consequences of two FM sounding signal sonars operating in the same body of water and frequency band. An in-depth analysis of mutual clutter was carried out. The effects of sounding signal differentiation were determined, as was the Doppler effect on mutual clutter suppression. One of the methods analysed is of particular interest in a situation in which collaborating sonars are operating in opposite frequency modulation directions. This method is effective for both linear and hyperbolic frequency modulations. A formula was derived, identifying exactly how much quantities of clutter may be lessened. The work included comprehensive computer simulations and measurements as well as tests in real-life conditions.
In the paper is presented impact of external interferences on vibroacoustic signals coming from a spark ignition engine’s vibrations in cold test performed on engine assembly line. As the basis to the analysis were used signals of piezoelectric sensor mounted on cylinder block of the engine driven by electric motor. In course of the testing it has been used the order tracking analysis of the vibrations during the cold test, while experimental results were used to statistic analysis of significance of influence with use of the MiniTab computer program. The main objective of the investigations was to verify actually obtained vibroacoustic signals and to minimize interferences coming from the measuring system. It should contribute to reduction of tolerance limits and improved detection of faulty engines with use of vibroacoustic methods. The investigations have shown significant impact of contact surface of the cylinder block with the sensor and impact of deformations of compression spring on results of recorded vibroacoustic signal. Such impact should be taken into considerations in numerical analysis of the signal. It has been proposed to perform activities to reduce influence of the interferences on recorded signals. Results of the investigations have been already utilized in production cold tests of spark ignition engines.

The paper illustrates the method of verifying the initial operating capability of an Airport with an algorithm. The factors that influence this process were divided into three groups: the infrastructure of an airport, the processes of the airport exploitation and the factors that perturb the airport exploitation. The analysis of these sectors was helpful to generate the conditions that an airport has to fulfill in order to safely carry out the aircraft operations of takeoff and landing. The algorithm was presented with a block diagram and was specified with a finite-state machine graph. This was accomplished with the FSM editor of the Active-HDL software, which allows the user to verify the algorithm by functional simulation. The simulations present the situations that can happen at the airport (some of them are very rare due to the high reliability of the systems and installations of the airport) and the reaction of the created machine.

The articles presents a method for improving the accuracy of bearing in multibeam sonar with a cylindrical array. Based on a known spatial spectrum estimation technique, the method has been successfully used in linear array systems. Its accuracy of bearing is satisfactory and ensures a relatively low computational effort. The article discusses certain simplifications and assumptions to adapt the spatial spectrum estimation technique in linear arrays to the needs of cylindrical arrays. Simulation results are compared to those achieved in the monopulse method.

An evolutionary algorithm is used to optimize the structure of complex transmission systems. Coding of system structure is done as a sequence of bits where each bit codes a single edge joining a pair of vertices. A procedure of dividing a bit sequence into subchains and a new crossover operator are presented. Efficiency of the algorithm is demonstrated on a simple example of a transmission network.

Regularization techniques are used for computing stable solutions to ill-posed problems. The well-known form of regularization is that of Tikhonov in which the regularized solution is searched as a minimiser of the weighted combination of the residual norm and a side constraint-controlled by the regularization parameter. For the practical choice of regularization parameter we can use the L-curve approach, U-curve criterion introduced by us [1] and empirical risk method [2]. We present a comparative study of different strategies for the regularization parameter choice on examples of function approximation by radial basis neural networks. Such networks are universal approximators and can learn any nonlinear mapping. e.g. representing an magnetic inverse problem. Some integral equations of the first kind are considered as well.
Radars with continuous wave frequency (CW FM sonars) are used in radiolocation as ‘silent radars’. They determine the distance to target by measuring the difference between the frequency of the sounding signal and echo signal. The article presents the principle of operation and parameters of silent CW FM sonars. Target distance determined by these sonars is based on the signal at the output of the matched filter. The Doppler effect is studied in detail to identify its effect on the sonar’s parameters. The results of theoretical calculations are presented together with the results of the sonar’s computer simulation.
Real time terrain generation is a vital part in the development of realistic computer simulations and games. Dynamic terrain generation influences the realism of simulation, because its participants have to adapt to the current environment conditions. Dynamically generated primary terrain is transformed in order to reflect natural phenomena, such as thermal and water erosion, avalanches or glaciers. In this article a possibility of primary terrain transformation with application of artificial neural networks is shown. The networks are trained by evolutionary algorithms to solve a problem of a water erosion phenomenon. Obtained results show that application of such neural networks to this problem can significantly reduce the processing time needed to perform the process of modeling the natural phenomena.
The fast development of electronic technology and digital signal processing methods makes electronic devices, including sonar systems ones, obsolete very quickly. On the other hand the ships mechanical components including mechanical parts of sonars are operational for a few dozens of years. It makes good opportunity to modernize these devices by using modern electronic devices and new digital signal processing methods with application of existing antenna and mechanical systems. The paper presents the modernization of ASW sonar SQS-56 on the Polish frigate ORP “Kościusko”. The aim of modernization, the new parameters of the sonar and block diagram after modernization are presented.
The article presents a training and diagnostic workstation designed for Polish Navy ASW helicopter navigators. Installed at the helicopter base, the workstation is used for training and instruction in operating the device and analysing information gathered by navigators during the flight using the ASW onboard sonar, sonobuoy receiver and magnetometer. The workstation allows instructors to task two operators and monitor their performance under conditions resembling those onboard a plane. The tasks involve the operation of the consoles and collecting information during tactical situations, diagnosing damage and analysing flight data in office environment. The objective is to ensure proper helicopter navigator training and experience given the limited possibility of training flights.
The aim of this document is to introduce acoustic signal processing in passive sonar system with towed array. The concept of the "acoustic signals processing" includes all possible operations on analogue signals such as amplifying, filtering, sampling and most importantly - operations on digital signals obtained in the sampling process. Digital operations executed in the system include: synchronizing, conversion, sorting, creating deflected beams sets, plotting the power density spectrum received signals and imaging the results. Apart from digital signals processing, we focus on reciprocal connections between microcontrollers and processors in which processing is performed. At the end of this document some exemplary imagings of the output are presented, obtained at the marine testing of this system.

To obtain smooth solutions to ill-posed problems, the standard Tikhonov regularization method is most often used. For the practical choice of the regularization parameter \alfa we can then employ the well-known L-curve criterion, based on the L-curve which is a plot of the norm of the regularized solution versus the norm of the corresponding residual for all valid regularization parameters. This paper proposes a new criterion for choosing the regularization parameter \alfa, based on the so-called U-curve. A comparison of the two methods made on numerical examples is additionally included.
