Let us rebuild the current system and make it better! For everyone. The article is an attempt at highlighting the key points (benefits) and making a convincing case for energy transition to electroprosumerism – a model that is based on decentralized infrastructure and renewable energy sources, electroprosumers, efficiency (exergy) and innovative techniques, including virtualization. Electroprosumerism is a sustainable, progressive, modern approach intended to benefit 99.9% of the society (instead of 0.1%): by lowering the financial and environmental costs of energy for end users, through engagement and involvement in local energy projects (offering potential solutions to many social issues) and by increasing our autonomy and resilience (a key point or lesson from the recent events and situation in Ukraine). This article is addressed not just to energy professionals but also a wider audience – energy transition is our great chance and it is crucial to take advantage of this opportunity. Therefore educating and increasing competences and skills related to energy should be our major focus. The article describes selected aspects of the concept, the complete White Paper on energy transition to electroprosumerism is available on the website of the Polish Senate [1].

The ongoing process of network softwareization is clearly visible for the mobile networks. The 5G standard defines core network functions as separate processes that can be easily virtualized. The next step is to make deployments cloud-enabled, e.g., independent of the hardware and hypervisor. In this work, we present a Proof-of-Concept of the 5G network cloud-based deployment. We perform the troubleshooting and propose solution for the encountered problem. We also extended the existing implementation with an analytics function.

A methodology for development for distributed computer network (DCN) information security system (IS) for an informatization object (OBI) was proposed. It was proposed to use mathematical modeling at the first stage of the methodology. In particular, a mathematical model was presented based on the use of the apparatus of probability theory to calculate the vulnerability coefficient. This coefficient allows one to assess the level of information security of the OBI network. Criteria for assessing the acceptable and critical level of risks for information security were proposed as well. At the second stage of the methodology development of the IS DCN system, methods of simulation and virtualization of the components of the IS DCN were used. In the course of experimental studies, a model of a protected DCN has been built. In the experimental model, network devices and DCN IS components were emulated on virtual machines (VMs). The DCN resources were reproduced using the Proxmox VE virtualization system. IPS Suricata was deployed on RCS hosts running PVE. Splunk was used as SIEM. It has been shown that the proposed methodology for the formation of the IS system for DCN and the model of the vulnerability coefficient makes it possible to obtain a quantitative assessment of the levels of vulnerability of DCN OBI.

Tiny Machine Learning is a new approach that is being used for data-driven prediction classification and regression on microcontrollers using local sensor data. The models are typically learned off-line and sent to the microcontroller for use as binary objects or frozen and converted static data. This approach is not universal or flexible. The REXA VM introduced in this work, which can virtualize embedded systems and sensor nodes and includes a general machine learning framework that supports arbitrary dynamic ANN and decision tree (DT) models, is introduced in this study. The models are delivered as text files with highly compressed program code that are enclosed in code frames with embedded data (model parameters). The VM offers fundamental computations for ANN and DT models (Microservices). Using a decompiler, models can be updated (retrained) and sent to other nodes (mobile models). It can be demonstrated that virtualization using a bytecode machine and just-in-time compiler is still appropriate and effective for extremely low-resource processors.

In a world of rapidly advancing digitalization and digitization and related amenities, organizations have begun to transfer their activities to the digital sphere. This allowed creation of a new concept – Industry 4.0, the main assumption of which is the networking of all activities taking place in enterprises. The main role in this process will be played by the possibility of virtualization (e.g. computer hardware) and access to it from any place at any time by stakeholders (clients, employees and other external entities) through an integrated environment ensuring adequate computing power (cloud computing). This phenomenon will generate new technical and technological solutions in the field of broadly understood automation of management processes. The issues discussed are particularly applicable in the event of various types of threats (external and internal), the emergence of which leads to the inability to physically (personally) run a business. This is particularly evident in the context of the recent events related to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic (SARS-CoV-2), which forced many entities (private and public) to switch to the remote work model. In order for it to fulfill its primary goal – ensuring the continuity of the entity’s operation – new tools were created and existing tools were expanded, supporting remote work, which are also based on the virtualization of hardware resources and cloud computing. In order to reduce the level of risk, which has increased due to the need to quickly adapt the processes taking place in organizations to the formula of remote work (increased occurrence of cyber threats), it becomes necessary to analyze the available tools in order to prepare appropriate recommendations (good practices) that can be implemented in any public or private entity (organization). For this purpose, it is necessary to analyze the background data (desk research) and review the available literature on the subject (including the available technical documentation) in order to obtain a catalog of effective technical and organizational solutions.

Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL are four of the most popular relational databases. They are often used in internet applications. This paper aims to compare the efficiency of these technologies in terms of speed using containerization with Docker. No publications that include that aspect were found among previous papers. After review of the literature, it was hypothesized that the Oracle engine would be the fastest. During the research, a series of experiments was carried out using the application, in which tests for measuring the time of instruction execution were implemented. Each query was measured 100 times and the first measurement was rejected. The obtained results confirmed the hypothesis about the superiority of the Oracle database. As in previous studies, it proved to be the fastest, also using containerization.

Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL i PostgreSQL to cztery z najpopularniejszych relacyjnych baz danych. Podczas badań przeprowadzono serię eksperymentów z użyciem aplikacji, w której zaimplementowane zostały testy do pomiaru czasu wykonania instrukcji. Każde zapytanie zostało zmierzone 100-krotnie, a pierwszy pomiar odrzucony.

Current networks are designed for peak loads leading to low utilization of power resources. In order to solve this problem, a heuristic energy-saving virtual network embedding algorithm based on the Katz centrality (Katz-VNE) is proposed. For solving an energy-saving virtual network embedding problem, we introduce the Katz centrality to represent the node influence. In order to minimize the energy consumption of the substrate network, the energy-saving virtual network embedding problem is formulated as an integer linear program, and the Katz-VNE is used to solve this problem. The Katz-VNE tries to embed the virtual nodes onto the substrate nodes with high Katz centrality, which is effective, and uses the shortest paths offering the best factor of bandwidths to avoid the hot nodes. The simulation results demonstrate that the long-term average energy consumption of the substrate network is reduced significantly, and the long-term revenue/cost ratio, the acceptance rate of virtual network requests, and the hibernation rate of substrate nodes as well as links are improved significantly.

In the last years European Commission has invested large funds to support creation of remotely available Information and Communication Technologies experimentation facilities which have provided an unprecedented contribution to the research community. Moreover, many high-end facilities have been made available to researchers, Small and Medium Enterprises and research institutions all over Europe and US. However, the existing testbed infrastructures still keep on lacking some key characteristics, such as large-scale network deployment, possibility of modifying practically all the protocol layers, access to commercial networks as they are, and access to regulated spectrum. The EuWireless project, funded by the European Commission, attempts to solve these issues by establishing a pan-European mobile network operator for research. In this article we aim at presenting the project to the Polish research community, and describe the challenges that still need to be overcome in order to include mobile Radio Access Networks into the wired Geant Testbed Services, which has been chosen by EuWireless project, funded by the European Commission, consortium as a testbed infrastructure implementation. We first discuss the management of radio resources in the context of regulated spectrum sharing framework. We propose the Software defined networks approach with an SD-RAN controller and a modified spectrum sharing framework with the spectrum manager. Second, we discuss the challenges related to the virtualization of RAN resources which is necessary to include them in the Geant Testbed Services.

W ostatnich latach Komisja Europejska zainwestowała znaczne środki we wsparcie infrastruktur badawczych do eksperymentowania z technologiami informacyjnymi i komunikacyjnymi na odległość. Stanowiło to bezprecedensowy wkład do społeczności badawczej. Ponadto wiele wysokiej klasy obiektów badawczych zostało udostępnionych naukowcom, małym i średnim przedsiębiorstwom oraz instytucjom badawczym w całej Europie i USA.

Oracle i IBM kierują swoją ofertę do klientów, którzy chcą mieć dostarczone gotowe rozwiązania „szyte na miarę”, zgodnie z wymaganiami klienta i przetestowane przed instalacją.

The article presents the strategies to provide customers cloud "tailored” solutions adopted by leading suppliers. Oracle and IBM companies target its offer to customers who want to have a “turnkey” solution according to customer requirements and tested before installation. Characteristic feature of solution offered by Oracle is the ability to transparently transfer 1:1 the entire contents of private cloud to a public cloud and vice versa, without having to install additional plug-ins. This is possible because both of these clouds are based on the same architecture, standards and products. Cloud offering from Oracle is based on three pillars: standardization (infrastructure and services), consolidation (hardware and software) as well as automation of management activities. In the IBM approach, services implementation process in the IBM cloud computing model is a process of IT transformation where Cloud Computing (CC) technology is only a tool. The key elements of such a technological transformation project are standardization, virtualization, automation, self-service and usage-based cost model.

A specialized database and a software tool for graphical and numerical presentation of maritime measurement results has been designed and implemented as part of the research conducted under the netBaltic project (Internet over the Baltic Sea – the implementation of a multi-system, self-organizing broadband communications network over the sea for enhancing navigation safety through the development of e-navigation services.) The developed software allows tracing graphs of radio-connections between shore stations and vessels (offshore units), based on historical data including the traffic of ships and their specific parameters collected on the Baltic Sea during the last four years. It also enables preparation of data for network simulation experiments using AIS (Automatic Identification of Ships) and GPS (Global Positioning System) loggers installed on shore stations and vessels, taking into account a number of input parameters, such as: time range, coast station selection, ship flags based on MMSI numbers and types and ranges of possible communication technologies used (WiFi, WiMax, Radwin, LTE,etc.). The created tool has a multi-layer architecture that utilizes the Maria DB SQL database, the Apache2 WEB server, and a number of PHP applications. The runtime environment has been built on Linux Debian version 8 and the HP C7000 cluster of the 16 CPU x86_64 architecture. The modularity of the application allows parallel processing and, therefore, optimization of the computing cluster. The database contains more than 70 million records which enables simulation of various topologies (with multi-hop transmissions) and network operations depending on the transmission techniques being used. The database is fully scalable, and allows easy adding of further data collected during subsequent measurement sessions. Additionally, the use of virtualization tools facilitates the future migration to more efficient processing environments, in case of a significant increase in the volume of data. The data recorded in the database allows calculation of statistics for the surveyed networks, and determining the incidence of potential network nodes (e.g. by flag) complete with their available communication techniques – information which is important in determining structures of possible multi-hop networks and their performance. The software finds routes for datagrams according to accepted criteria and exports results to a network traffic simulator, and as such is an important part of the framework used for planning next measurement campaigns and determining which communications equipment would be more suitable for vessels.
