The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming naval capabilities, reshaping ship design, lifecycle management, operational decision-making, and autonomous maritime systems. Naval platforms are among the most complex engineered systems, characterised by long service lives, safety-critical functions, and demanding operational environments, making AI integration both strategically attractive and technically challenging. This paper presents an engineering-oriented review of AI applications in the naval domain, focusing on their role across the capability development lifecycle. To illustrate practical implementation, a Random Forest regression model is developed to support early-stage prediction of the block coefficient of naval ships. The review highlights significant opportunities associated with AI integration, including enhanced decision-making, improved design efficiency, and increased operational effectiveness. However, successful AI adoption requires technological advancement alongside organisational adaptation, strong governance, and sustained investment in human expertise. AI should therefore be understood not as a replacement for naval engineering expertise, but as a force multiplier that augments analytical capacity and accelerates innovation across the maritime domain.

This paper addresses a significant and topical issue related to occupational safety in production systems using artificial intelligence. It presents an original conceptual framework enabling the systematic allocation of responsibility in such systems. This new approach takes into account the distributed nature of agency, algorithmic decision autonomy, and the multi-level structure of AI system design, implementation, and operation processes. The study is based on the concept of Ethical Production Safety Engineering (EPSE), which extends the classic approach to production safety engineering with normative, legal, and ethical dimensions, taking into account the specific nature of autonomous decision-making systems based on artificial intelligence. It is a proposal to move from reactive attribution of blame after dangerous (accidental) events to proactive design of responsibility as an integral part of occupational safety in modern enterprises. The paper presents the theoretical and conceptual foundations of ethical production safety engineering and assumes that this safety is systemic and emergent in nature. The use of AI means that responsibility is treated as a systemic, distributed construct oriented towards the life cycle of the system. Key to this concept is the Multi-Layer Responsibility Allocation Model (MLRAM), which reflects the complex, distributed structure of agency and decision-making in AI-driven production systems. In the presented approach, responsibility is relational, multi-level, and extended over time, covering the entire life cycle of an autonomous system. It is assessed on the basis of sets of layered indicators relating to specific decisions and practices characteristic of each level of the system. The developed solution represents a new approach to assessing the safety status of complex and increasingly autonomous production systems using AI tools.

Production systems operating in Industry 4.0 environments are increasingly exposed to disturbances that affect process stability, performance, and managerial decision-making. The growing complexity and digital integration of production processes require structured approaches that go beyond reactive disturbance handling and support process-oriented management. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used as a decision-support mechanism to enhance data interpretation and managerial responses. This article aims to examine how AI-supported process management tools can be used to handle disturbances in Industry 4.0 production systems. A structured qualitative coding methodology is proposed and applied to systematically identify disturbances, corresponding management actions, and disturbance-related process signals. Disturbances are classified using D-codes, management responses using A-codes, and observable indicators using signal codes, forming an integrated analytical framework for process-level analysis. Empirical data collected from real production systems were analyzed using the proposed coding approach. AI-supported data processing was used to assist pattern recognition, signal interpretation, and the linking of disturbances with management actions, without replacing human judgment in decision-making. The results provide an empirically grounded classification of disturbances and process management tools relevant to digitally integrated production environments. The study contributes to production engineering and management literature by offering a transferable methodological framework for analyzing disturbance handling in Industry 4.0 production systems. From a practical perspective, the findings demonstrate how basic process management tools, supported by AI-based decision-support, can enhance managers’ ability to identify, interpret, and respond to disturbances in complex production processes.

SEP is a higher-benefit organization that has been working diligently for over a century to benefit its professional community. It shares the ups and downs and undergoes changes along with its professional community, but also with the entire society it diligently serves. A growing number of scientific, technical, economic, and even political and social organizations are actively using AI analyses and functional support. AI's capabilities encompass a wide range of activities, including planning, contextual situation assessment, problem-solving, strategic game management, and more. In this article, we argue that, in the current situation, without significant AI involvement or support, a well-formulated new statute and the associated modern Strategy of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers may be inadequate for today's rapidly changing professional and broader social contexts. The AI environment allows for flexible, context-sensitive support in the construction of complex legal and formal documents, such as the organization's operational strategy, with multiple accepted arguments and functional variables related to the organization's activities. It is worth taking advantage of this opportunity and testing it, for example, during discussions on the SEP's Operational and Development Strategy for the next two terms. Here, we test what AI suggests in this regard and what discussion can be opened.
