The early twentieth century was a period when reinforced concrete began to be used in technical solutions in Polish lands. Examples of the use of this material can be found in Cracow, not only in the form of monolithic structures but also as prefabricated elements. One such example is the warehouse annex at 23 Szewska Street in Cracow, which was entirely built from prefabricated reinforced concrete elements, precisely matching each other. According to the findings, this is a building constructed with the oldest prefabricated reinforced concrete elements made in Cracow and its surroundings, based on the Visintini patent (system). Despite its age and the harsh working conditions, the historical prefabricated reinforced concrete elements have remained in sufficient technical condition. They continue to serve their load-bearing function as integral components of the structure. They stand as a testament to past engineering thought and can still serve as a model today.
Nowoczesne technologie, rosnące znaczenie zrównoważonego budownictwa i potrzeba lepszego podziału odpowiedzialności w procesie inwestycyjnym sprawiają, że temat standaryzacji rozwiązań prefabrykowanych nabiera szczególnej aktualności. Prefabrykacja znajduje coraz szersze zastosowanie w budownictwie infrastrukturalnym, w tym w projektach mostowych. Jej rozwój technologiczny otwiera nowe możliwości w zakresie projektowania, produkcji i montażu elementów konstrukcyjnych. Wojciech Ruman, kierownik działu handlowego firmy Betard, członka Stowarzyszenia Producentów Betonów, przedstawia perspektywę producenta na aktualne wyzwania i kierunki rozwoju prefabrykacji w mostownictwie.
Zaprezentowano dwudziestowieczną historię rozwoju technologii prefabrykatów betonowych zbrojonych drewnem, ujmowanych tu jako cenna część dziedzictwa technologicznego (uwypuklono polski wkład w ten wątek rozwojowy). Wskazano, w jakim zakresie kontynuację tego dziedzictwa technologicznego stanowią współczesne kompozyty drewnobetonowe (TCC). Opisano też zakres architektonicznych zastosowań prefabrykatów zbrojonych drewnem.

This study evaluates the cyclic response of the Precast Hollow Core Slab (PHCS) to the beam connection by proposing a novel connection detail. The evaluation involved, three different connection details, namely, (1) Continuity rebar and U-type Core Rebar Discrete with 100 mm ledge width (CUCRD_100); (2) continuity rebar and Core Rebar Combined with 100 mm ledge width (CCRC_100); and (3) continuity rebar and Core Rebar Combined with Ties along with 100 mm ledge width (CCRCT_100) were experimentally validated. These were validated through experimental testing, comparing their performance with a reference specimen that adhered to New Zealand guidelines using Continuity rebar and Core Rebar Discrete with 100 mm ledge width (CCRD_100). Displacement controlled reverse cyclic loading, following the ACI T1.1–0.1 protocol, was applied to the end of a hollow core slab for the experimental testing. The structural performance of all four connections considered failure pattern, strength, hysteretic behaviour, energy dissipation, displacement ductility, stiffness degradation, and equivalent viscous damping. The overall seismic efficiency of the connections was assessed using ACI 374.1–05 approval criteria. The experimental results proved that the peak load-carrying capacity for CCRCT_100 specimen was observed to be greater in both directions of loading (positive and negative) when compared with the other connection detailing. The presence of transverse reinforcement enhanced the confining capacity of the concrete in the joint region which substantially increased the ductility and dissipation of energy in CCRCT_100 specimen. The seismic performance of every connection specimen was favourable, and they all met the ACI 374.1–05 approval standards.

In this study, ultrahigh-performance concrete (UHPC) was utilized in precast segmental beams to reduce the self-weight, shorten the construction time, and improve the performance and durability of bridges. Owing to the discontinuity in the joints, shear behavior plays a critical role in the overall structural performance of precast UHPC segmental beams (PUSBs). Therefore, four dry-jointed segmental specimens along with one monolithic specimen were designed and tested under a two-point concentrated load with various joint types, shear span-to-depth ratios (λ), and numbers of shear keys. Two types of shear failure modes were observed in the tests: shear compression failure of the web (λ = 1.44 and 2.56) and local shear failure of the flanges at the joint (λ = 3.67). The shear capacity, stiffness, and cracking load of the dry-jointed segmental specimens were lower than those of the monolithic specimen, and the single-keyed specimen exhibited better shear behavior than the three-keyed specimen. Increasing λ decreased the shear strength and stiffness of the segmental beams and considerably affected their failure modes and crack distributions. Additionally, four UHPC design codes were evaluated for their accuracy in estimating the shear strength of the specimens, and a simplified strut-and-tie model was developed to predict the shear strength of externally pre-stressed PUSBs. Finally, several design recommendations were proposed. This study is expected to facilitate the research and application of PUSBs.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki wybranych badań laboratoryjnych certyfikowanych modułów (paneli) służących do wznoszenia budynków o drewnianej konstrukcji w autorskiej technologii Wood Core House (WCH).

This paper presents the results of selected laboratory tests of certified modules (panels) for the construction of timber-framed buildings using the author's Wood Core House (WCH) technology. This solution can be used both for the construction of new residential or public buildings, as well as applied in the modernisation, renovation or superstructure of existing buildings - due to their low weight. This solution combines prefabrication of the elements with direct assembly on site without the use of heavy equipment. This means that it is possible to build a wooden wall structure where access for heavy equipment is difficult.

Aluminum powder as the foaming agent and lime hydrate as the secondary binder are used for the preparation of lightweight gypsum. The mix design is performed by the sequential simplex method which provides materials with the bulk density 650 kg m-3, compressive strength 1 MPa and thermal conductivity 0.22 W m-1 K-1 as the optimal solution. A comparison with the results obtained by other investigators using the commonly used gypsum foaming methods shows that the newly designed materials have mostly better or at least comparable properties. This makes the lightweight gypsum foamed by aluminum powder an interesting alternative to other lightweight gypsum products.
