Celem niniejszego artykułu jest określenie ryzyka powstawania zniszczeń mrozowych w miejscach uzupełnień spoin zabytkowych murów przy zastosowaniu współcześnie produkowanych zapraw renowacyjnych. Materiał badawczy stanowiły współczesne zaprawy renowacyjne przeznaczone do stosowania w obiektach zabytkowych o różnym składzie.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the risk of frost-induced deterioration in repointed joints of historic masonry when repaired using contemporary restoration mortars. The experimental materials comprised a selection of commercially available mortars intended for use in heritage structures, differing in their composition. In order to assess the susceptibility of each mortar type to frost damage, mercury intrusion porosimetry was conducted to characterize pore size distribution and total porosity, both prior to and following freeze – thaw testing. Additionally, the samples were subjected to controlled freeze – thaw cycling to validate the reliability of the porosimetric evaluation. Based on the obtained results, the frost resistance of the investigated mortars was estimated, and an attempt was made to identify materials potentially most suitable for conservation applications, with particular emphasis on ensuring compatibility and structural homogeneity within the restored masonry fabric.

Revitalization activities of historical buildings, especially those with several hundred years of history require solving many problems of conservational nature especially issues related to preserving the authenticity of the existing tissue, ways of reconstructing lost elements but most of all connecting historical architecture with contemporary elements. Moreover, changing the function of a building with a great historic significance (even partially), is often a difficult task that requires thorough recognition and understanding of the history. The adaptation of the Archcathedral Basilic in Frombork attic for museum and exhibition purposes provides excellent material for future ventures in medieval structures. In the article, spatial and technical solutions, design assumptions, and the process of the preparation and realization of the investment were examined. The objective of this study is to present a methodology for the revitalization of architecturally and historically valuable buildings, one that aligns with international conservation standards, respects the integrity of the historical substance while ensuring adherence to current functional and safety regulations.

The aim of the work was to determine the risk of frost damage in places where historic Gothic walls were supplemented with currently produced bricks. The main experimental material included brick samples from four medieval constructions located in the north-east of Poland. The comparison material were currently produced bricks from brickyards manufacturing handmade bricks. To assess the risk of frost damage for individual bricks tests using mercury porosimetry were carried out. The research made it possible to determine the size and number of pores in tested material. Based on the results obtained, the frost resistance of contemporary manufactured bricks was estimated, materials appropriate to conservation works and ensuring at the same time a homogenous structure of the restored masonry were indicated.

Materiał do badań obejmował próbki cegieł pochodzących z czterech gotyckich obiektów zlokalizowanych w północno-wschodniej części Polski, a materiał porównawczy stanowiły współcześnie produkowane wyroby ceramiczne pochodzące z cegielni zajmujących się produkcją cegieł ręcznie formowanych.

Stwierdzono, że przepływy sygnałów prądowych wysyłane podczas pomiarów jednorazowych i cyklicznie powtarzane w ramach monitoringu zmieniają właściwości fizyczne kapilarno-porowatej struktury muru.

At the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn there have been developed impedance sensors for long-term monitoring of moisture content in brick walls [1] in response to this demand. Similarly, as with all indirect moisture content measurements, the use of the electric current flow, also requires carrying out procedures for scaling measuring devices [2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. The article discusses the selection of the optimal size of moisture standards, what is undoubtedly an important problem of calibration procedures. It was found that the current signal flows, sent both during single measurements and cyclically repeated as part of monitoring, change the physical properties of capillary porous structure of the walls. The range of interaction of the electrical signal with the wet structure of the tested material was determined. The minimum size of the standards was specified, basing the representativeness of multi-material structures. Other factors affecting calibration accuracy have also been established.
