Kopalnia Soli „Wieliczka” oprócz uprzedniej funkcji za kładu wydobywczego, a obecnie obiektu turystycznego, pełni też rolę pomnika kultury narodowej. Jedną z jej postaci to od kilkudziesięciu lat plener filmowy. W Kopalni zostało zre alizowanych wiele filmów, zarówno dokumentalnych i edu kacyjnych, jak i fabularnych. Filmy z tej pierwszej grupy przedstawiają dzieje kopalni i jej walory górnicze, poznaw cze i przyrodnicze, fabularne zaś inspiracje czerpią z magii i tajemnic podziemi wielickich.

Besides its previous function as saltworks and its cur rent status as a tourist attraction, the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine also serves as a landmark of the Polish culture. It has also been used as a filmmaking location and setting for several decades. Many films have been shot in the salt mine, includ ing documentaries, educational films, and feature films. The films from the first group depict the history of the mine and its industrial, cognitive, and natural values, while the fictional films draw inspiration from the magic and mysteries of the underground sites of “Wieliczka”. The films made in the salt mine have often been awarded at national and international film festivals. The first award ed film was the “Wieliczka” by Jarosław Brzozowski which received the First Prize in the documentary and educational film category at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Several films that became significant for the Polish cinematography were shot in the salt mine, including On the Silver Globe by Andrzej Żuławski (1977), Sexmission by Juliusz Machulski (1983), and The Mill and the Cross by Lech Majewski (2011). The salt mine presents important advantages for film pro duction, including the worldwide recognition of the facility, excellent transportation connections between Wieliczka and Kraków, the experience of the mine’s employees in carrying out such projects, “ready-made” film sets, or a continuous op eration of the underground facilities that allows film crews to work also at night, as well as the availability of accommoda tion and catering facilities in Wieliczka.

The article describes the ferry crossing through an underground lake at interlevel Iln-III Kazanów of the „Wieliczka" Salt Mine. Initially, the crossing was situated in the Przykos chamber, and in 1834, it was moved to the Piłsudski chamber. Passage across a salt lake is an additional tourist attraction. The lake was formed as a result of flooding of the sub-surface part of the chamber with brine. It consists of a western and eastern part, and a connecting gallery. The crossing was equipped with infrastructure to serve tourist traffic. The levees were designed as wooden platforms overlooking the lake, fitted with gates for accessing the docked ferry. The ordinates of platform floors match the draft of the ferry. The 'Hanna' ferry built from two combined boats travels across the lake. Its fairway is marked by a straight wooden guide between the levees. The ferry has a capacity of 12 people. The ferry is manually propelled, using wooden poles. There are rescue wheels on both sides of the ferry, along with rescue cords.

The authors of the paper describe the way in which the longitudinal working Gussmann was mined in level V and the longitudinal working Kosocice in level VI, which in both cases resulted in a water flux from behind the northern boundary of the salt deposit. Only after concrete dams were seated on both levels, the brine flux was stopped leaving a direct contact of the dams with the pressurized water around the mine. For the sake of controlling water beyond the dams, steel pipelines were conducted through both dams and equipped with gauges before the dams. Their use in a saline environment, the developing corrosion increased the possibility that the tightness of the pipelines would be damaged. For this reason a decision was made to protect the mine by making a tight reconstruction of the safety pillar in both levels along the longitudinal working for about 600 m from the dams eastwards. For this purpose the pipeline injection method was applied. As the volume of voids to be tightly filled equaled to about 3800 m3, the task had to be divided into stages. Because of considerable distances of the liquidated workings from the closest shaft, the sealing slurries were prepared in a special injection center on the surface from where they were transported to the destination with a pumping pipeline through the Kościuszko shaft. The most important aspect of liquidating the end parts of the longitudinal working was to properly select the sealing slurries in view of their best cooperation with the rock mass, and such parameters as tightness, durability and cost. At the end stage of works, both longitudinal workings were equipped with dams, which were sealed up with the hole injection method. The innovative technology was implemented in the Wieliczka Salt Mine to reconstruct the safety pillar in levels VI and V in the most westward workings, the mine was shortened by about 600 m, the length of the ventilation system was reduced, systematic observations and pressure read-outs in dams 3 and 4 were systematically eliminated in dams 3 and 4. In this way the costs were lowered and safety of the mine improved.

Wyrobiskami tymi odkrywano liczne kawerny i pustki powstałe w wyniku wynoszenia materiały skalnego z górotworu. W wyniku gwałtownych wypływów wód połączonych z transportem materiału skalnego doszło w 1879 do deformacji powierzchni terenu. Ostatecznie wypływ został zatamowany w rezultacie samoczynnego zaciskania się odkrytych wcześniej kawern. W budowie geologicznej rejonu wypływu występują skały złoża bryłowego, głównie iłowce margliste i zubry. Dopływy wód należy wiązać z przekroczeniem utworów otuliny iłowogipsowej złoża i wejściem chodnikiem Kloski w zawodnione piaskowce chodenickie formacji z Machowa. Obecnie przecieki z rejonu Kloski stanowi zarejestrowany na poziomie VI wyciek WVI-20, a Rejon Kloski Colloredo podlega wodoszczelnej likwidacji. Analiza przyczyn i przebiegu katastrofy wodnej Kloski Colloredo oraz katastrofy w poprzeczni Mina w 1992 roku pozwala dostrzec analogie łączące oba wydarzenia.

The Kloski cross-corridor was an exploration corridor, located at Level V, while the Colloredo cross-corridor was an emergency corridor at Level IV. The emergency operations conducted first in the Kloski cross-corridor and followed by those in the Colloredo cross- -corridor continued for eleven years and primarily consisted in the cutting of corridor workings and level-connecting shafts, along the water courses. Such workings uncovered a number of caverns and voids that had occurred as a result of rock material removal from the rock mass. Upon rapid outflows of water transporting rock material, surface deformations appeared in 1879. Finally the outflow was dammed by natural convergence of previously discovered caverns (fig. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,12,13,14,15). The geological structure of the water outflow area shows boulder rocks, mainly marl siltstone and zubers. Water inflows were associated with the penetration of the protective layers of siltstone and gypsum formations above the salt deposits, through the Kloski corridor, and into the soaked Chodenice sand deposits of the Machów formation (fig.9,10,11). Recently, Leak WVI-20 from the Kloski corridor has been recorded at Level VI, and the Kloski-Colloredo Area has been subjected to water-tight liquidation (fig.16). Our analysis of the cause and course of the water disaster in the Kloski-Colloredo Area, as well as of that in the Mina cross-corridor of 1992, allows us to identify certain analogies of both occurrences.

Komora Saurau należy do jednych z największych komór w kopalni Soli Wieliczka. Zakres destrukcji, w aspekcie wieloletniego utrzymania dobrego stanu komory, stanowił podstawę do podjęcia decyzji o dodatkowym zabezpieczeniu komory, z uwzględnieniem zaleceń konserwatorskich Małopolskiego Wojewódzkiego Konserwatora Zabytków w Krakowie, m.in. zachowania dotychczasowego wystroju komory, jej walorów zabytkowych oraz widokowych. W trakcie prowadzonych prac zabezpieczających stwierdzono potrzebę modyfikacji opracowanego projektu technicznego. Artykuł omawia walory historyczne komory Michał-Saurau oraz niezbędne, nowo projektowane zabezpieczenie przedmiotowego obiektu wraz z wyrobiskami przylegającymi.

Saurau chamber is one of the largest excavations in Wieliczka salt mine. It is located between 2nd lower and 3rd level of the mine as an underground object of Museum Żup Krakowskich. The chamber is one of the last excavations, where salt was exploited with traditional, manual exploitation method, used in the mine for hundreds of years. Recently, local symptoms of rock mass pressure were observed in the chamber. Scope of destruction, considered with a need to maintain good condition of the chamber, was a basis for the decision of carrying out additional reinforcement works in the chamber. That works have to be carried out with consideration of Voivodeship Conservation Officer suggestions, regarding preserving chamber’s unique advantages and decor. During carrying out the works additional impaired locations were spotted, what lead to project modifications. Article presents historical aspects of Saurau chamber and newly projected reinforcement works in the chamber and its neighbouring excavations.

W 1992 roku w Kopalni Soli „Wieliczka” doszło do katastrofy wodnej. Podczas przebudowy ostatnich metrów poprzeczni Mina zlokalizowanej na IV poziomie kopalni zaistniały gwałtowne wypływy wody niosącej duże ilości materiału skalnego. Apogeum wypływów miało miejsce jesienią 1992 roku, kiedy doszło do destrukcji powierzchni terenu na przedpolu poprzeczni. Przyczyny zaistnienia katastrofy są złożone i sięgają początku XX wieku, kiedy kopalnia pod presją krytyki dotyczącej złej jakości wydobywanej soli poszukiwała nowych pól eksploatacji złoża. Do prac rozpoznawczych należało przedłużenie północnych końcówek poprzeczni Strzelecki, Dunajewski i Mina, dokonane w latach 1908-1917. Z powodu braku właściwego nadzoru nad prowadzonymi pracami, przekroczono granicę złoża i otrzymano w efekcie dopływ nienasyconej wody pochodzącej z utworów chodenickich. Granicy złoża wówczas nie wychwycono, o czym świadczą archiwalne materiały kartograficzne z lat 20. Wyciek w poprzeczni został zarejestrowany i podlegał systematycznej kontroli. Widnieje on na archiwalnej mapie z lat 30. Katastrofa ta oprócz negatywnych skutków miała jednak także swe pozytywne aspekty w postaci restrukturyzacji kopalni i wypracowania nowoczesnych metod zwalczania zagrożenia wodnego w górnictwie solnym.

Catastrophic water intrusion into the Wieliczka Salt Mine occurred in 1992. When the final section of the Mina Crosscorridor, located at Level IV of the Salt Mine, was under reconstruction, sudden inflow of water carrying large amounts of rock material encroached the workings. The maximum leaks volume occurred in the autumn of 1992, with the destruction of land surface on the foreground of the cross-corridor (phot.1). The causes of the catastrophic events were complex and went back to the beginning of the 20th century when the Salt Mine management started to search for new mining fields under the pressure of criticism relating to the poor quality of extracted salt. Exploration works involved extension of the northern sections of the Strzelecki, Dunajewski, and Mina Cross-corridors conducted in 1908-1917. The last of the three projects failed, owing to the geological structure of the rock mass (fig.1). The salt deposit boundary was penetrated by the cross-corridor, probably due to poor supervision, and, consequently, unsaturated water originating from the Chodenice formation (fig.6), flew into the workings. The salt deposit boundary was not correctly identified, as proved by the archival cartographic materials of the 1920’s (fig.2,3). The leak was registered and put under regular inspections which we can see on the 1930’s maps (fig.4). After World War II, the technical condition of the cross-corridor was neglected and the end section several dozens of metres long collapsed in 1971. The water could not be controlled any longer and it migrated to the lower levels of the Salt Mine, causing rock mass destruction (fig.5). The management decided to reconstruct the cross-corridor in the 1980’s and plug the leak. The salt mining instructions adopted by the Chemical Minerals Corporation ordered plugging water leaks on location to prevent migration of unsaturated water within salt deposit. In the second half of the 1980’s, the reconstruction project was designed, but the works were too extensive (fig.7). The project was conducted in the early 1990’s, the period of social and economic transformations, as well as personnel replacements, occurring in Poland and in the Salt Mine itself. Those also contributed to the developments. Besides the negative effects, the catastrophe resulted in the implementation of a restructuring project and working out modern methods of water hazard control in salt mining.

The article presents the operations of the ”Wieliczka” Salt Mine, geared towards the development of brine-based spa treatment using the water inflowing naturally into the underground mine excavations. The certificates issued on 30th December 2013 confirmed the healing properties of the brine, and then the concession of 30th October 2015 allowed for the exploitation of medicinal waters from the W-VII-16 outflow. This broadened the scope of health services provided by the „Wieliczka” Salt Mine Health Resort. The therapeutic activity of the Health Resort is based on natural medicinal resources: microclimate of the underground salt chambers, and now also natural brine. Currently, the ‘Wieliczka’ Salt Mine Health Resort carries out individual inhalations with 1 or 2% Wieliczka brine (depending on the medical indication) administered as an aerosol i.e. particles of mineral water distributed in a gaseous medium (air). In December 2014 a brine graduation tower was opened in order to extend spa treatment. It is constructed of larch wood and blackthorn twigs, with a total capacity of 7600 m3. The graduation tower was designed as an open-air inhalatorium. Brine from the W-VII-16 outflow is used to produce aerosol at the graduation tower. The property has been integrated into the Wieliczka skyline and located on the edge of the park between the Daniłowicz and St Kinga shafts.

W referacie przedstawiono deformacje obudowy i uzbrojenia szybu zarejestrowane wykonanym dla Kopalni Soli „Wieliczka" S.A. systemem monitoringu geodezyjnego deformacji obudowy szybu, kanału dolotowego oraz konstrukcji wieży szybowej podczas wykonywanych prac wiertniczych i iniekcyjnych w pobliżu szybu. Iniekt podawany pod znacznym ciśnieniem do otworów wiertniczych zlokalizowanych bardzo blisko szybu, mógł uszkodzić konstrukcję obudowy i spowodować awarie krytyczne szybu. W celu zapobieżenia takim sytuacjom zamontowano w szybie mobilny system monitorowania stanu konstrukcji szybu. Analiza uzyskanych wyników wykazała niewielkie deformacje obudowy szybu podczas iniekcji oraz potwierdziła zalety wykonanego systemu monitoringu i nowatorskiego sposobu iniekcji wysokociśnieniowych.

This paper presents the deformation of the housing and shaft reinforcement within the deformation monitoring system surveyed in Salt Mine "Wieliczka". The material injected under considerable pressure to boreholes located very close to the shaft, could damage the reinforcement and cause critical failures of the shaft. In order to prevent such situations, a mobile system for monitoring the condition of the structure of the shaft was mounted. Its indications allowed to define the value of deformation occurring in the shaft in real time, and if necessary to modify the course of the injection works. The system and the implemented software was developed within the project "Developing technologies of sealing mine shafts in Salt Mine "Wieliczka"", co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The analysis of the results shows a slight deformation of the shaft housing during the injection and demonstrates the advantages of the monitoring system and a novel method of high-pressure injections.

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine has specific characteristics, related to the geological structure of the deposit, geomechanical properties of the rock mass, mine operation methods, the impact of the excavations on the surface and on the rock mass and the role of the mine as a cultural monument and tourist attraction. In order for an IT system to manage the mine, the system has to be prepared with consideration of the above-mentioned characteristics, which precludes the implementation of other systems for the Wieliczka mine. The article discusses the methods of creating a part of such a system in the form of a database about the excavations, which may be the basis of the entire system. The database uses the software available at the mine. The article indicates the practical applications of the database in the resolution of engineering and mining issues.

Podano możliwości praktycznych zastosowań bazy do rozwiązywania zagadnień inżynieryjno-górniczych.

W artykule zaprezentowano działania KS „Wieliczka” S.A. przeprowadzone w latach 2010– 2014 w celu ograniczenia zagrożenia wodnego.

The article presents operations performed by the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine in the years between 2010 and 2014 targeted at limiting water hazard. An injecting facility constructed on the surface nearby the Kościuszko Shaft was opened in 2010. The facility is fully automatic and produces injection materials used for watertight elimination of mine workings. In the years between 2010 and 214, the successful elimination of several mine workings threatened by water hazard, caused by outside inflows, was performed by means of the injecting facility and pipeline system injection technology. Among the eliminated mine workings was the northern end of the Mina traverse. The elimination of backfilling openings and sealing of shafts were part of the operations, performed at the same time, aimed at limiting water hazard. The objective of the executed works was to recover rock mass tightness for the purpose of protecting the mine from water inflows and water infiltration occurrences from outside the deposit into mine excavations.

Wyrobisko to zostało wykonane w połowie XIX w. Wybrany sposób rewitalizacji poprzeczni Albrecht poszerzy zakres udostępnienia zabytkowej wielickiej kopalni, a wykonanie przeprawy promowej uatrakcyjni sposób zwiedzania podziemnych wyrobisk.

The Albrecht connecting corridor between the salt workings is located at Level III of the historic Wieliczka Salt Mine, in the area of the Regis Shaft (Fig.1). The working was cut out in the mid-19th century. The landmark nature of the connecting corridor causes that the revitalization works planned there should be carried out with the observation of the procedures applicable to historic sites. This paper presents an analysis of possible revitalization options of the connecting corridor at the section from the Hauer to the Karol corridors, running along the salt deposit, allowing for making the site available for visitors. First, the geological, hydrogeological, and mining conditions of the working are described, together with previous protection works. The present technical condition of the connecting corridor and its casing are described, with the destruction processes confirmed by the results of the geomechanical analysis, enforcing the necessity to take action by the Salt Mine to protect the working against complete destruction. Next, the paper concentrates on the geological and historical values of the connecting corridor, indicating that the site is also interesting from the viewpoint of nature. Upon analysis of the local conditions and the recommendations of the Małopolska Landmark Conservator [6], as well as the suggestions contained in the Historical and Preservation Study of the Albrecht Connecting Corridors at Level III in the “Wieliczka” S.A. Salt Mine [3], four revitalization options were determined for the site, depending on the use of specific modes of transportation within the working: rail cars, suspended cars, walking routes, or a ferry. As a result of the analysis conducted at the stage of the Design Documentation of Works [5], it was agreed that the best revitalization method will consist in the provision of a floatable canal, within the working protected with mining methods. It would allow for using a ferry and providing a walking route between the canal and the west wall of the working. That revitalization method of the Albrecht connecting corridor would allow for extension of tourist routes within the Wieliczka Salt Mine, with the ferry crossing making it even more attractive.
