This study examines property price trends in Czech cities (2018-2023) with more than 40,000 inhabitants using EVAL software, focusing on changes from 2018 to 2023. The methodology involves automated data collection from property listings, which are analysed to shed light on market dynamics and investment returns. The results show significant price increases, particularly in economically weaker cities, with variations influenced by economic and demographic factors. In this analysis, the environmental sustainability of urban development was additionally considered, highlighting the need for integrating sustainable practices into future urban growth. Practical implications include insights for policymakers and investors regarding the sustainability of urban property markets. Social implications reflect the ethical concerns of investment strategies that exploit economic disparities. The originality of the study lies in the use of advanced software to provide granular micro-level analysis within the Czech real estate market, providing valuable insights into localised economic impacts and investment opportunities.
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the prediction of carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles using machine learning-based regression models. Linear regression, lasso regression, k-nearest neighbor regression, random forest, and CatBoostRegressor algorithms are systematically evaluated using a dataset of vehicle specifications and emissions data. Hyper-parameter optimization was performed using a grid search method and the performance of the models was measured using mean squared error, root mean squared error, mean absolute error, and R-squared metrics. CatBoostRegressor stood out for its high predictive accuracy, while random forest and k-nearest neighbor models also produced notable results, while linear models failed to model complex data relationships. Correlation analysis showed that engine displacement, number of cylinders, and fuel consumption were strongly correlated (0.92–0.99) with carbon dioxide emissions. The comparison with the literature showed that the study was characterized by its multi-model approach, rigorous data pre-processing, and systematic optimization. However, the geographical limitation of the dataset and the lack of dynamic variables such as driving conditions restrict its generalizability. In the future, explainable artificial intelligence methods and larger datasets may overcome these limitations. By highlighting the applicability of CatBoostRegressor, this study strengthens the contribution of machine learning to environmental sustainability policy and provides methodological innovation in the literature.
It is a truism by now that the combustion of fossil fuels has execaerbated climate change, and its repercussions. Biomass in pelletised form, will emerge as substitutes, in the circular bioeconomies of the future. This brief review focuses on the utilisation of agricultural residues as raw materials for pellets, and explores the aspects of sustainability – socio-cultural, economic, environmental, and techno-functional – in the 20-plus peer-reviewed articles selected for that purpose using Scopus with a set of search-phrases. The articles are case studies dated between 2012 to 2023, tracing their provenance to different countries in the world – Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, India, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Thailand, Türkiye, Zambia, etc. Among the many gleanings which are reported in this review, some deserve mention here in the abstract. The social aspect of sustainability has not been studied as much as the economic and environmental. The case studies emphasize the importance of adapting the pelleting process to the properties of the agricultural/horticultural residues and the prevalent local conditions. It is encouraging to note that there is a surfeit of agricultural residues (corn, coffee, quinoa, beans, oats, wheat, olives, tomatoes, pomegranates, grapes, etc. in the articles reviewed) which can be valorised to pellets, also in combination with the in-vogue forestry wastes. This is more advisable if the status quo is open burning of such residues in the fields. The journey towards the sustainable development goals (SDGs) will be aided by investments in such biorefinery-projects, SDG 17 is extremely vital for their success – collaboration and cooperation among several stakeholders around the world. This review, though based on only 20-plus articles from around the world, is an in-depth analysis which promises to be of interest to decision-makers and sustainability-specialists keen on contributing to the transition to a circular bioeconomy.

Studia przypadków podkreślają znaczenie dostosowania procesu granulowania do właściwości pozostałości rolniczych/ogrodniczych i panujących warunków lokalnych.

Biophilia hypothesis based on the inherent human affinity to affiliate with the natural systems and biophilic design that introduces its consideration into the design methodology of the built environment, has been critically analyzed since the 90. XX. This paper refers to the biophilia concept in the context of the interior architectural design. The analyzed design methods and techniques in shaping of the interior environment’s components recognize the patterns and attributes of the biophilic design. Their application into the design methodology, as essential design determinants, indirectly impacts the fulfillment of the sustainability postulates. These consider the optimization of indoor quality parameters, including the user’s satisfaction on the emotional, aesthetical and cognitive levels. This paper attempts to revise the interior architectural design methodology and to prove that consequent enclosure of the elements of biophilia concept is to extend the scope of the notion of environmental sustainability, as well as to stimulate the innovative solutions for architectural interiors and their components.
Ensuring access to sustainable, affordable and clean energy sources is a top priority of the global energy agenda. It is reflected in the seventh goal of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda with the three dimensions of economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection. The seventh goal is aimed at providing the sustainable development of energy systems whilst taking into account these dimensions. To assess the development trends of national energy systems within the framework of the global energy agenda, certain methods of quantitative measurement have acquired particular relevance. Approaches to assessing energy security mainly depend on the interpretation of the “energy security” concept. The main methods for the integrated assessment of the energy security of states are generally compiled by international organizations. An important indicator for the measurement of the sustainable development of energy systems is the Energy Trilemma Index, built within the framework of the “energy trilemma” concept. It allows quantifying the ability of states to ensure energy security, energy equity and environmental sustainability, taking into account the national context. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the energy systems of Russia, Kazakhstan and Armenia through the Energy Trilemma Index 2022. The studied countries actively participate in the integration processes in the Eurasian and post-Soviet space. Thus, the analysis of the Energy Trilemma Index 2022 allows us to become acquainted with the main trends of the energy sector development in the Eurasian space, exploring the conjuncture of energy markets and their main challenges. The study of the energy systems of Russia, Kazakhstan and Armenia through the energy trilemma index enables the identification the methodological significance of the index for assessing the sustainable development of national energy systems. The practical relevance of the index in the formation of the state energy policy for the sustainable development of the energy systems has also been emphasized.

Zapewnienie dostępu do zrównoważonych, przystępnych cenowo i czystych źródeł energii jest jednym z głównych priorytetów globalnej agendy energetycznej. Znajduje to odzwierciedlenie w siódmym celu Agendy Zrównoważonego Rozwoju ONZ z trzema wymiarami wzrostu gospodarczego, włączenia społecznego i ochrony środowiska. Do oceny tendencji rozwojowych krajowych systemów energetycznych w ramach globalnej agendy energetycznej szczególnego znaczenia nabrały pewne metody pomiaru ilościowego. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono analizie systemów energetycznych Rosji, Kazachstanu i Armenii poprzez Energy Trilemma Index 2022. Badane kraje aktywnie uczestniczą w procesach integracyjnych w przestrzeni euroazjatyckiej i poradzieckiej.

Agricultural policy in the European Union at Community level, as well as in the member states, increasingly emphasises the issue of sustainable agriculture. The pursuit of climate neutrality requires a reduction in emissions from agricultural sources. Above all, it is necessary to fully exploit the potential of agricultural and forestry areas to increase carbon sequestration in biomass and soil, optimise systems for the storage, transport and use of livestock manure, and significantly improve energy efficiency and increase the share of renewable energy in plant and livestock production. Rural areas, and in particular agriculture, are also seen as one of the main and important sources of pollution and eutrophication of water. Determining the correct way to assess the degree of sustainability of farms requires objective and feasible to determine measures and indicators of socio economic-environmental sustainability and a lot of analysis, methodological and practical research. To date, no uniform set of sustainability indicators has been developed and their selection depends on data availability.

The consumption of energy contributes significantly to the overall cost of operations and the environmental impact of the mining and mineral processing industry. However, despite a few notable exceptions, most of the resulting waste heat produced is dissipated, without recovery, into the environment. There is also a lot of stored heat in mine water which can be tapped into long after a mine has closed. There is, therefore, significant opportunity to improve the industry's sustainability through increasing the amount of waste heat recovered and repurposed.
