A study has been conducted on the use of alternative energy sources for propulsion of a vessel in inland waterway transport. It is clear that at this stage it is most appropriate to use a vessel designed for short-haul trips between two banks of a ferryboat for passengers and luggage or for recreation and entertainment. On this basis, research has been conducted on a newly designed and built vessel to carry up to 12 people. The drive is fully powered by 180-Ah batteries at 48 V. The batteries are charged by the sun through 5-kW solar panels. The results show that the vessel powered by two 5-kW electric motors can sail autonomously for about 1.5 hours, to travel about 13 km, at an average speed of 7.9 km/h with an average energy consumption of 71.3 kWh/100km when sailing on a linearly reversible route including sailing downstream and upstream on the Danube River.

For this study, an analysis of a system of transport nodes of the railway and bus service transportation was carried out. A principal scheme of a transport node in typical cities for Bulgaria and a sample flow chart are presented. The categories of basic requirements for transport nodes in cities are also defined. On the basis of a railway system and bus transport nodes in the city of Ruse, Bulgaria, research on the interaction of the system with the mass urban passenger transport has been conducted. As a result, a mathematical model is proposed for the average daily inbound flows of passengers to a specific passenger stop, and a specific route has been modelled to be used as a server. An assessment of the daily irregularity on this route has been performed and a system has been modelled as a system of mass service for assessing the capacity and organization of work. The incoming passenger flows and the speed of passenger service have also been defined as a non-stationary Poisson flow. Under the conditions of non-stationarity flows, the basic values of the system parameters have been calculated and an application has been created in the MatLab platform. For a model of the system of mass service, the system of the differential-algebraic equations Kolmogorov/Erlangen for stochastic processes has been selected.

The high concentration of vehicles and pedestrians at traffic lights makes them a common place for road accidents to occur. The main reason for them is the behavior of vehicle drivers and pedestrians, who often violate the traffic law because of incorrect judgments. This study investigates a special type of traffic lights, which are located on places without roads intersection. In the present study, a concept for improving the safety of such traffic lights is suggested. The method suggests a novel algorithm for the detection of pedestrians, based on image processing and a background pattern. The concept of the detection system makes it applicable in different climatic conditions, such as rain, snow, dust, etc., and offers many advantages over the current situation in Bulgaria. The intelligent system only detects pedestrians in the waiting zones, in order to optimize the traffic problems, such as traffic delays, use by disabled people, protection against troublesome users, etc.
