This article presents the advantages and disadvantages of using the Thermal Network Method for the preliminary assessment of the thermal state of electric machines during the rapid prototyping of a series of high-power-density, liquid-cooled induction motors with outer rotor type LEMoK IM. A method for geometric and material parameterization of the LEMoK IM motor series is proposed, enabling automatic determination of motor thermal model parameters. Furthermore, a thermal network dedicated to the LEMoK IM motor series is proposed. Example thermal calculations were performed for a LEMoK IM 270 motor with a rated power of PN= 65 kW and a rated speed of 7917 RPM. The results of analytical calculations were compared with the results of numerical calculations based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) conducted using a 3D model in ANSYS Fluent software. In assessing the advantages and disadvantages of both proposed methods attention was focused on the differences in the obtained results and the time resulting from their use.

This paper proposes a simplified Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) method for modeling of surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) synchronous motors (SPMSMs). The method has constructed a system of equations based on the physical structure of the electric machine, including the teeth, stator yoke, air gap, and permanent magnets. By exploiting the symmetry and periodicity of the magnetic field, the computational domain is simplified, which reduces the number of circuit elements and shortens calculation time. The nonlinear system of equations is solved using a damped Newton’s method to ensure stability and convergence. The analytical results are then compared with that obtained from the finite element method (FEM) to show that the error for flux linkage and back-electromotive force is in the range of 5%-7%. However, the cogging torque has lower accuracy due to the approximate modeling of the air gap. The MEC model has demonstrated that a calculation speed of under 1 second, making it suitable for early-stage parameter analysis, design studies, and motor optimization. Keywords Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) method, Finite Element Method, surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) synchronous motors (SPMSMs), Cogging torque, Magnetic flux, Back EMF.

W niniejszej pracy zaproponowano metodę uproszczonego ekwiwalentnego obwodu magnetycznego do modelowania powierzchniowo zamontowanego stałego magnesu w silnikach synchronicznych.

In this article, a beam-and-slab floor is analyzed. The peculiarity of the construction and static work of a monolithic beam-and-slab floor alloy is the division of a relatively thin floor slab into smaller fields, by introducing beams that provide susceptible supports for the slab. The eccentric positioning of the slab with respect to the beam allows the top surface of the floor to remain flat. FEM models of the floor under consideration were analyzed, taking into account different ways of modeling the system. The Robot Structural Analysis program was used for the calculations. On the basis of the models and calculations made, the dangers in the calculations carried out, resulting from underestimation of bending moments in the slab, were indicated. Simplified analytical methods are also presented to check the results obtained from the spatial calculations of the models and to enable their validation. The final part of the paper presents a methodology for defining the offset (displacement) of the beam axis with respect to the slab axis in the floor model.

The additive manufacturing (3D printing) process of plates closely resembles the production of laminated composites. Both structures can be treated as multi-layered composites, where each layer may have distinct mechanical properties while forming an integrated structure. This study employs a non-destructive inverse technique based on dynamic tests to characterize the engineering constants (elastic parameters) of an individual printed layer. By using non-invasive experimental vibration tests (optical sensing), numerical modelling (SIMULIA/ABAQUS), and direct optimization processes (SIMULIA/Isight), the engineering constants of an individual printed layer are identified. A thin 3D-printed plate with a symmetric stacking sequence of layers is used for this characterization. The results are validated by predicting and measuring the dynamic response of a second symmetric plate with a different stacking sequence (printing orientations). The findings demonstrate that Classical Laminated Plate Theory (CLPT) can effectively predict the linear dynamic response of thin 3D-printed plates. Furthermore, the inverse technique is shown to be a robust and reliable method for determining the engineering constants of individual layers in a 3D-printed plate.

In this study, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) were created to develop a Digital Twin (DT) for temperature prediction in the laser hardening process of NC10 steel. The ANN were trained to predict temperature on the top layer during the laser hardening process of NC10 steel samples with different thicknesses and with various laser power and laser scanning speeds. The prediction developed during the project work was based on a parametric numerical model of the laser hardening process for a sample of NC 10 steel, using the Finite Element Method (FEM) within the ADINA software. Numerical simulations enabled a detailed analysis of the temperature produced on the surface of each sample, as well as a visualization of the structural changes made to the sample according to the laser hardening process. It is crucial to create data that reflects reality as closely as possible to assess the best setting for each process. A well created DT allows to make automatically important changes along laser hardening process. To obtain a set of the most efficient parameters for the desired result, Genetic Algorithms (GA) were integrated with the developed ANN. As a result, the authors developed an effective and efficient tool to predict the temperature produced along the laser hardening process.

The paper presents an investigation to find a method for assessing the intensity of extension-bending mechanical coupling in the behavior of thin plates. The analysis considers thin, simply supported square laminate plates subjected to in-plane compression. Plates with various plies stacking sequences with extension-bending coupling phenomenon were analyzed employing the finite element method software and using a developed closed-formed equation – the analytical method. The coupling intensity was quantified using two dimensionless stiffness reduction coefficients and a nondimensional anisotropic coefficient, known from literature. A reduction in the buckling load for plates with different layer arrangements, observed during nonlinear analysis, was used as a measure of coupling intensity. The results revealed that laminates with high extension-bending coupling intensity could exhibit up to 19% reduction in the buckling load. Additionally, the individual contributions of coupling intensity parameters to this reduction were identified. The validity of the proposed method was further evaluated for plates with different boundary conditions. These findings provide a foundation for predicting the behavior of mechanically coupled laminates without the need for extensive stability analysis.

Cellular steel beams are increasingly used in construction projects due to their decorative and economical characteristics, enabling long spans that reduce the number of columns and footings in the structure, thus shortening construction times and reducing infrastructure costs. The objective of this paper is to predict the ultimate strength, and to realize an accurate design method for determining the shear buckling of the web of stainless-steel cellular beams using machine learning. Several machine learning algorithms are trained using dataset generated from validated finite element models (FEM), including artificial neural networks, decision trees and random forests. All these models performed remarkably well, with coefficients of determination R2 greater than 0.9. The artificial neural network stood out for its superior predictive capacity, offering the best results. In particular, the ANN model with 8 neurons produced very accurate predictions for estimating the web-post buckling strength. In conclusion, a formula based on artificial neural networks (ANN) was presented and proved to be highly accurate, with a regression value (R2) equal to 0.99823, and mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) values equal to 11.19 and 17.29 respectively. The formula based on artificial neural networks can therefore be used as a design tool.

This work examines thermoplastic processing (TMP) of commercially pure Grade 2 titanium using finite element simulations with the Anand viscoplastic constitutive model and a broad experimental validation matrix (400–800 °C; 0.01–10 s⁻¹, including an intermediate 5 s⁻¹ case). The goal was to assess whether this model, originally developed for solder alloys, can capture titanium’s deformation behaviour at elevated temperatures relevant to biomedical applications. Uniaxial compression tests were performed at 400–800 °C and strain rates of 0.01–10 s⁻¹, and the resulting stress–strain curves were compared with FEM simulations in Ansys Workbench. Parameter calibration was based on experimental data, with focus on 500–600 °C and 0.1–1 s⁻¹ - conditions previously shown to promote grain refinement and mechanical strengthening. The Anand model reproduced stress evolution well in the initial deformation phase, particularly at lower strain rates. Stress distributions in the FEM simulations captured the expected axial stress gradients (centre < side < edge), while stresses were typically 30–40 MPa higher than measured. The model also reproduced the elastic–plastic transition, with smoother behaviour observed at higher temperatures. However, the model does not account for dynamic recrystallisation (DRX) or related softening mechanisms, which leads to overestimation of stresses in the later stages of deformation. Experimental samples also displayed anisotropic deformation, likely due to initial material texture, which was not represented in the model. Despite these limitations, the Anand formulation demonstrates potential for predicting TMP of pure titanium, reducing reliance on trial-and-error testing and supporting process optimisation for biomedical applications.

This article presents a methodology for optimizing the geometric parameters of air-core coils using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The design problem is formulated as a bi-objective task, aiming to maximize the magnetic flux density along the coil axis while simultaneously minimizing the conductor mass. An analytical model based on the Biot-Savart law was developed to drive the optimization process, allowing for the generation of Pareto fronts that illustrate the trade-off between magnetic performance and material consumption. To validate the proposed approach, five distinct design cases with varying geometric constraints were analyzed. The results obtained from the analytical model were verified against numerical simulations performed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) in Agros2D software. The comparative analysis demonstrated high convergence between the analytical and numerical methods, with relative deviations remaining below 2.12%. The study confirms that the proposed hybrid methodology constitutes a robust tool for designing electromagnetic actuators, enabling the selection of optimal coil geometries that balance high magnetic force capabilities with lightweight construction.

This study investigates the vibration response of a functionally graded beam subjected to a two-degree-of-freedom moving load using the finite element method. The finite element formulations for the dynamic analysis of the classical functionally graded beam are derived based on Hamilton’s variational principle. A MATLAB program is developed to compute the vibration response employing the Wilson–θ numerical integration algorithm. In addition, a semi-analytical solution is established to validate the finite element results proposed in this study. The comparison results demonstrate excellent agreement between the finite element method and the semi-analytical approach in predicting the beam’s vibration response. Parametric studies with various input conditions clearly reveal the significant influence of the load magnitude and load velocity on the dynamic behavior of the system. Furthermore, the results indicate that the dynamic amplification factor increases markedly with increasing velocity. Unlike previous FEM studies using simplified moving loads, this work explicitly formulates the coupled mass, damping, and stiffness matrices including Coriolis and centrifugal effects for a 2-DOF vehicle–FGM beam system. Flat, convex and concave wedge tools can all be used in cross-wedge rolling (CWR) processes. However, using concave tools requires a new generation of rolling mills with segmented tool assemblies. This paper presents the concepts for such a machine. Next, the influence of tool shape on the CWR process is analysed using the example of a stepped shaft. This analysis was based on numerical simulations carried out using the Simufact.Forming software. The distributions of temperature, effective strain and damage function, as well as force and energy parameters, were compared. Based on this analysis, the most effective CWR process variant was selected.
