The conditions of the urban environment in the aspect of progressive climate change mean that city spatial planning is becoming an increasingly greater challenge. The specificity of Krakow’s centre stems from its historical urban grid and the placement of an exceptionally large fragment of the city under heritage conservation. This paper is the result of analyses in terms of urban environmental conditions in the Old Town area, and the objective of the study was to determine possible solutions to improve the living conditions of residents and enhance biodiversity. The measures are based on the idea of a human-friendly city that also limits the negative consequences of urbanisation.

Warunki środowiska miejskiego w aspekcie postępujących zmian klimatycznych sprawiają, że kształtowanie przestrzenne miast staje się coraz większym wyzwaniem. Specyfika centrum Krakowa wynika z historycznej siatki urbanistycznej i ochrony konserwatorskiej wyjątkowo dużego obszaru miasta. Niniejszy artykuł jest wynikiem przeprowadzonych analiz pod kątem warunków środowiska miejskiego na terenie Starego Miasta, a celem badań jest wyznaczenie możliwych rozwiązań dla poprawy warunków życia mieszkańców i zwiększenia bioróżnorodności. Działania opierają się na idei miasta przyjaznego dla człowieka, tym samym ograniczając negatywne skutki wynikające z procesu urbanizacji.

Planty to pierścień zieleni wokół Starego Miasta Krakowa, założony w XIX wieku. Na przestrzeni lat park zmieniał swoją kompozycję, ale niezależnie od przekształceń Planty są jednym z najważniejszych i najcenniejszych terenów zieleni w Krakowie. Ze względu na wyjątkowy charakter zostały one wpisane na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO wraz ze Starym Miastem. Praca ma na celu ukazanie przemian parku w odniesieniu do zmieniających się kanonów piękna na podstawie wybranego fragmentu Plant.

The Planty Garden in Cracow is the belt of greenery around The Old Town, that was formed in 19th century. Over the years the garden's composition has been changed but independently of those changes, 'green ring' is one of the most important and valuable public greenery in the city. As an integral part of the Historic Centre of Cracow the Planty Garden was scheduled into UNESCO World Heritage List. This work shows character of those transformations with reference to beauty principles changes.
