This article compares the deflections of reinforced concrete beams with reinforcement degrees of ρ=1.02% and ρ=1.78%, made of lightweight aggregates, i.e. Certyd, LECA, and an innovative aggregate made of plastic waste. Two methods were used for the comparison experimental and computational. The computational part was performed using the finite element method (FEM) in ANSYS software. The adopted properties of lightweight concrete were sourced from the authors’ experimental research. A comparison of deflections based on the data obtained using both methods showed that, for reinforced concrete elements with a degree of reinforcement of ρ=1.02%, the smallest difference was obtained in the case of beams made of plastic waste concrete, while the highest difference was obtained for beams made of concrete with lightweight expanded clay aggregate. In the case of reinforced concrete elements with a degree of reinforcement ρ=1.78%, the lowest differences were obtained for beams made of lightweight aggregates, i.e. Certyd and LECA. For those beams that used plastic waste aggregate, the difference was 20%, compared to experimental tests.

W artykule porównano ugięcia belek żelbetowych o stopniu zbrojenia ρ=1,02% i ρ=1,78%, wykonanych z lekkich kruszyw, tj. Certyd, LECA i innowacyjnego kruszywa wykonanego z odpadów tworzyw sztucznych. Do porównania wykorzystano dwie metody: eksperymentalną i obliczeniową. Certyd i LECA. W przypadku belek, w których zastosowano kruszywo z odpadów tworzyw sztucznych, różnica wyniosła 20% w porównaniu z badaniami eksperymentalnymi.

One of the factors that significantly affect flight safety is bird strikes. Various aircraft parts are vulnerable to damage. For helicopters, the windshield, the front part of the fuselage, and the rotor blades are particularly sensitive to bird collisions. Experimental studies and numerical modelling of bird model impacts on polycarbonate samples and a helicopter windshield are presented in the paper. For the tests, a gelatine projectile was used as a bird substitute. In numerical studies, it was represented by a cylindrical shape with hemispherical ends. In the first stage of the experimental tests samples made of polycarbonate material were used as a target. These studies focused on determining the sample deflections and velocity at which the bird model would penetrate the target. The experimental investigations were conducted with a special set-up of a gas gun equipped with high-speed cameras, tensiometers, accelerometers, and force sensors. The simulations were conducted using LS-DYNA software by applying the SPH method to the bird model. The test stand models were developed in a CAD environment and then imported into LS-Pre Post software, where they were discretized to use in numerical analyses. Results of the studies, such as impact force, acceleration, and windshield deflection were compared. Besides, the high-speed cameras allowed visualization of the impact process. It turned out that both a polycarbonate plate and a helicopter windshield were punctured at the speed of 50 m/s. It can be noted that the curves of the impact force and the deflection of samples obtained as a result of numerical analysis correlated well with the empirical ones. The correlation validated the modelling parameters and confirmed that numerical simulations could be trusted as an effective and reliable method for analyzing materials' behavior under impact loading.

This article presents results of numerical modelling, simulation and test bench experiments of a hydraulic direct-acting relief valve was used as a safety valve. The analyzed safety valve was placed in a system consisting of a fixed-speed pump, a control valve, a hydraulic cylinder as an actuator and a second pressure valve in the load line used as a payload generator for the cylinder. In the first step mathematical model of the system was formulated in the form of a system of ordinary differential equations. Next, simulation model was created in Matlab/Simulink. Simulations were carried out for different values of the actuator payload. The obtained results include time series of pressure, flow rate and displacement of the actuator piston. In order to confirm simulation results, a test bench was built and series of experiments were carried out. High compliance of simulation and laboratory results was obtained. It was confirmed that the proposed solution with the relief valve used as a safety valve fulfills its task of protecting the hydraulic system from excessive pressure increase.

This work deals with the effectiveness of a multi-body approach for the study of the dynamic behavior of a fixed landing gear, especially the research project concerns the drop tests of the AP.68 TP-300 aircraft. First, the Digital Mock-up of the of landing gear system in a C.A.D. software has been created, then the experimental structural stiffness of the leaf spring has been validated using the FEM tools MSC. Patran/Nastran. Finally, the entire model has been imported in MSC.ADAMS environment and, according to the certifying regulations, several multi-body simulations have been performed varying the heights of fall and the weights of the system. The results have shown a good correlation between numerical and experimental tests, thus demonstrating the potential of a multi-body approach. Future development of the present activity will probably be an application of the methodology, herein validated, to other cases for a more extensive validation of its predictive power and development of virtual certification procedures.
