Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) play a key role in modern navigation and transportation service delivery. Today it is difficult to imagine the daily operation of land, sea or air transportation without the positioning and timing provided by satellite systems [6, 8, 11]. In civil aviation, GNSS provides precision landing approaches and support for safety systems, in maritime navigation it enables open sea course determination and maneuvering, and on land it directs vehicle navigation and synchronization of telecommunications networks. Many of these applications are so-called PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) systems, where uninterrupted and accurate position and timing information is critical to safe operations [8]. Unfortunately, satellite systems have recently become the target of hacking attacks. This paper will present AI methods for detecting GNSS anomalies, the role of inertial systems as an independent navigation source, and position correction techniques (e.g., using Kalman filters) supported by intelligent algorithms. An overview of current research and experiments in this field will also be presented, as well as conclusions on the effectiveness and development prospects of the technologies discussed.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań symulacyjnych w zakresie detekcji interferencji w interfejsie radiowym 5G-NR w środowisku miejskim.

Navigation using global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) is widely available and widely used. Disturbances in navigation signals are caused by natural phenomena (e.g., atmospheric activity or the Sun's activity, cosmic radiation), electromagnetic signal propagation, and environmental influences (e.g., multipath propagation). Intentional and harmful interference with GNSS signals through jamming, spoofing, or meaconing is common and constitutes a component of hostile activity, particularly in asymmetric and hybrid operations. This study focuses on intentional GNSS interference, detailing its technical characteristics, classification, effects, and legal issues. It also presents measurement results of such interference from the Gulf of Gdańsk region. The following re-search methods were used to achieve this goal: analysis of knowledge sources, expert interviews, field measurements, and synthesis and inference of collected data. This study confirms that intentional GNSS jamming has a significant current impact and is widely used. Measurement data collected in the Gulf of Gdańsk region reveal the presence and extent of this interference. This article presents the goals of intentional jamming of GNS signals and provides a general technical analysis. The legality of intentional GNSS jamming is assessed, and potential legal implications are identified in the context of state liability for its consequences. The research conclusions indicate that GNSS are essential to modern economies, armed forces, and public safety, but their vulnerabilities require continuous improvement of security technologies, detection methods, continuous monitoring of their operations, and the introduction of appropriate legal regulations to protect them.

Nawigacja wykorzystująca globalne systemy nawigacji satelitarnej GNSS (ang.

Ponadto w obecnej postaci detekcja zajmuje dwukrotność czasu trwania sygnału, a możliwe jest zmniejszenie jej czasu poprzez m.in. zrównoleglenie obliczeń.

This article presents the proposed recursive signal detection algorithm based on time-frequency analysis. The algorithm has been tested for a wide range of real signals recorded using a measurement station. The results show that the proposed algorithm detects the useful signal very well and is also scalable. Moreover, in its current form, detection takes twice the signal duration and it is possible to reduce its time by, among others, parallelization of calculations.

W artykule przedstawiono metodę separacji sygnału intencjonalnych zakłóceń z ważonej sumy sygnału użytecznego i zakłócającego. Metoda jest oparta na zasadzie ślepej separacji źródeł sygnałów wymagającej jedynie określonej liczby próbek sygnału odebranego i odpowiedniej liczby anten odbiornika MIMO. Jako kryterium optymalizacji algorytmu odbioru zastosowano kryterium adaptacji zaproponowane wcześniej przez autora do ślepej korekcji adaptacyjnej sygnału danych. Przedstawiono również wyniki symulacji modelowanego systemu.

Modern cellular wireless communication systems of the fourth (4G) and fifth generation (5G) face a problem of various types of interference or intentional jamming. Consequently, a degradation of the services provided and an incorrect network operation may occur. In this paper, configuration of the networks’ physical layer is investigated, with the said investigation preceded by the measurement of parameters of commercial networks operating in two different environments, to assess their vulnerabilities to interference or intentional jamming. Finally, a method for analyzing the radio signal received with the use of 5G New Radio (NR), Long Term Evolution (LTE), and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) radio interfaces is proposed, to detect and mitigate the negative impact of unwanted signals. Software-based implementation of the proposed method allows one to detect and mitigate co-channel interference, intentional jamming and maintain compatibility of user equipment (UE) with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard, as it does not affect operations performed, for instance, at the time and frequency synchronization or channel parameter estimation phases.

Wi-Fi networks are often susceptible to signal interference that can disrupt services, intercept sensitive data, and allow unauthorized access. Exploiting this vulnerability, attackers can launch Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI) attacks or protocol-based attacks. IEMI attacks include, but are not limited to, jamming, which involves the introduction of interference signals in the frequency band used by a given Wi-Fi network, thus disrupting its proper operation. The article presents research on different types of IEMI attacks, aimed at illustrating this type of threat to video transmission from Wi-Fi cameras and discusses methods of protection against this type of attack. The paper examines the methods of jamming the wireless network band, which are used on the distribution methods and the Sweeping Jammer methods that cyclically disrupt all available devices. Based on the experiments, it has been confirmed that SOHO devices are highly susceptible to this type of simple attacks and implementing a method to minimize the effects of jamming yields poor results. The simplicity of this type of attack and the high availability of software and hardware tools on the market make the threat highly popular and still dangerous.

Nowadays, most of the society, especially young people, treat GPS as an obvious source of information, just like television, radio or the Internet. In fact, we are dealing not only with the American system, but also several others that make up Global Navigation Satellite Systems. This is the primary source of situational awareness for many activities: professional, military and business as for everyday use. From crisis actions, by timing and synchronization in critical infrastructures such as financial, communications, power grid and industrial systems, and more. In fact, we can talk about the critically reliant of human life upon GNSS. Like any radio system, GNSS is also susceptible to interference and changes in the ionosphere, however on the turn of the centuries appeared the new, not expected threat in the form of more and more frequent cases of interferences, especially intendent one. If so, appears the question how to recognize this threat and how to proceed in such case? In the paper, some current information about the question, as well as some suggestions how to act on board in such cases will be presented.

Metodę tę zweryfikowano symulacyjnie w modelowanym łączu systemu 5G New Radio (NR), w którym zawarto pełny łańcuch bloków funkcjonalnych warstwy fizycznej łącza. Podane przykładowe wyniki symulacji dotyczą łącza w górę systemu 5G NR.

In this paper, we present a new method of jamming detection in OFDM transmission. It is based on the comparison of signal energy in two subsequent time intervals. An appropriate metric is proposed which enables the decision-making to be made if jamming is present. The proposed method has been verified by modeling the 5G New Radio link, which contains a complete chain of functional blocks of the physical layer of the system. The exemplary simulation results show the detection performance in the 5G NR uplink.

Implementation of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems into almost all aspects of life causes the specific, new troubles in the form of jamming and spoofing. The origin of the problem comes from the fact that power of received signals are weak, and format and modulation of the signals are publicly known. If so, it seems to be easy to transmit falsified data to the receiver. However in the opinion of some specialists the idea to generate false signals with GNSS structure seems to be very complicated. In this paper will be shown that in fact, this can be conducted with use of cheap and widely accessible tools, without demanding any extraordinary skills nor great funds. If so, this threat gathers the new meaning. Described experiment was performed within the framework of student’s thesis on major navigation with the cheap software defined radio and open sources software, accessible via Internet.

The article presents two modular radio transmission jamming devices developed by the consortium of Łukasiewicz-PIAP and ITTI sp. z o.o. as part of the project: „Jamming of radio transmission in selected facilities of the Border Guard”. In typical operating conditions the devices ensure effective blocking of radio communication (prevention of information leakage, protection against remote radio detonation of IED) and analysis of the frequency spectrum in the 25 MHz to 5.9 GHz band. Developed jammers are intended for use by professional state services, have a modern user interface and offer the possibility of remote control. The most important parameters and functionalities are characterized, as well as the distinguishing non-standard operating modes are discussed, i.e. the spectrum analysis mode and the responsive jamming mode, which minimizes the negative effects of user’s exposure to electromagnetic radiation in the vicinity of working devices for a long time.

This article presents a consistent solution of Transmit Power Control in centralized (clustered) wireless network with and without jamming. Depending on the policy assumed, appropriate solutions are applied to minimize the power used in a system or to satisfy expected Quality of Service. Because of specific nature of the system there is no optimal solution which can be applied in practice. Correctness and effectiveness of four proposed Transmit Power Control algorithms was presented in the form of computer simulation results in which the system capacity, mean power used and the number of successful links were described.

The general accessibility and high accuracy of GPS caused that for a dozen or so years it is applied commonly, not only in marine navigation. We can ascertain that in this regard there exists the monopoly. However, now it is apparently that this system can be easily disturbed, what testify numerous reports. The problem has been treated as troubles in land navigation, however nowadays became every-day reality on coastal waters as well, especially on the Mediterranean and Black Seas and Persian Gulf. Officers who survived this tell that the first impulse in such situation is to verify GPS receiver, regardless of the situation around the ship. The concentration of the officer’s attention on the GPS receiver, especially on coastal waters creates the threat for the ship, however in this situation appear other threats which many officers does not associate with GPS. Usually on the present ship GPS receiver is not only the source of positioning information. It is a source of information for many other devices, so inappropriate work of it generates problems with many other processes on the ship. Today question is who on the bridge can notice GPS problems and how? There are receivers which do not inform about the problem, or present not realistic data. Sometimes only ECDIS picture shows some abnormality, for example still the same position while ship is under the way. On the paper the analysis of possibly aspects of the problem is discussed. Presented analysis goes to the conclusion that should be prepared some procedure how to proceed in case of the lack of GPS signals, as well as the watch officer should be prepared to act in such situation. This is a task for marine academies.

GNSS systems are susceptible to radio interference despite then operating in a spread spectrum. The commerce jammers power up to 2 watts that can block the receiver function at a distance of up to 15 kilometers in free space. Two original methods for GNSS receiver testing were developed. The first method is based on the usage of a GNSS simulator for generation of the satellite signals and a vector signal RF generator for generating different types of interference signals. The second software radio method is based on a software GNSS simulator and a signal processing in Matlab. The receivers were tested for narrowband CW interference, FM modulated signal and chirp jamming signals, and scenarios. The signal to noise ratio usually drops down to 27 dBc-Hz while the jamming to signal ratio is different for different types of interference. The chirp signal is very effective. The jammer signal is well propagated in free space while in the real mobile urban and suburban environment it is usually strongly attenuated.
