W artykule przeanalizowano skuteczność powtórnej termomodernizacji budynków wysokich wykonanych w technologii wielkopłytowej oraz opracowano model oceny efektywności metod modernizacji i estetyzacji fasad, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem efektu energetycznego. Analizie poddano trzy warianty modernizacji: zwiększenie przeszkleń balkonów, obudowę balkonów fasadą aluminiową oraz pełną fasadę szklaną. Obliczenia, wykonane w programie Audytor Sankom na podstawie audytu energetycznego i pomiarów in-situ, uwzględniały współczynnik U [W/ (m²·K)], roczne zapotrzebowanie na energię EHV [kWh/m²·rok], koszt C [€/m²] oraz ślad węglowy eCO₂ [kgCO₂/(m²·rok)]. Wyniki wykazały, że wariant drugi (V2) pozwala na największą redukcję zużycia energii (32,1%), podczas gdy wariant pierwszy (V1) osiąga najlepszą izolacyjność (U = 0,149 W/m²K) i najwyższy wskaźnik BESM (1,109). Mimo wysokiego kosztu (155 €/m²), V2 znacząco poprawia efektywność energetyczną oraz estetykę budynku. Optymalizacja metod termomodernizacji stanowi kluczowy element dostosowania budynków wielkopłytowych do współczesnych standardów i poprawy jakości życia.

This article examines the effectiveness of secondary thermal retrofitting in high-rise buildings constructed using large-panel technology and presents a model for evaluating the efficiency of facade modernisation and aesthetic enhancement methods, with particular emphasis on their energy performance. Three retrofit variants were analysed: increased glazing of balconies, aluminium-clad balcony facades, and a fully glazed facade. Calculations were performed using Audytor software by Sankom, based on an energy audit and in-situ measurements, taking into account the U-value [W/(m²·K)], annual energy demand EHV [kWh/m²·year], cost C [€/m²], and carbon footprint eCO₂ [kgCO₂/(m²·year)]. The results show that Variant 2 (V2) achieves the greatest energy consumption reduction (32.1%), while Variant 1 (V1) provides the best insulation performance (U = 0.149 W/m²K) and the highest BESM index (1.109). Despite its higher cost (155 €/m²), V2 significantly improves both the building’s energy efficiency and aesthetics. Optimising thermal retrofit methods is a key factor in adapting large-panel buildings to contemporary standards and enhancing residents’ quality of life.

Artykuł przedstawia wybrane elementy diagnostyki termicznej historycznej zabudowy robotniczej Aglomeracji Górnośląskiej, która stanowi ważny element dziedzictwa przemysłowego regionu. Pomimo wyjątkowego znaczenia dla charakteru i kształtu górnośląskiego krajobrazu kulturowego, przetrwanie osiedli i kolonii robotniczych jest zagrożone. Obiekty mieszkalne ulegają postępującej degradacji wraz z likwidacją macierzystych zakładów przemysłowych. Badaniami zostały objęte wybrane budynki mieszkalne w obrębie osiedla Bobrek w Bytomiu – w jednym z największych i najbardziej charakterystycznych górnośląskich osiedli robotniczych. Osiedle powstające w kilku etapach od 1888 roku do lat 20. XX wieku ukazuje pełny zakres historii budownictwa patronalnego regionu.

This paper presents selected aspects of thermal diagnostics of historical workers’ buildings in the Upper Silesian Agglomeration, which constitutes an important element of the industrial heritage of the region. Despite the quite exceptional significance of workers’ housing estates and colonies for the nature and shape of the Upper Silesian cultural landscape, their preservation is threatened. Residential buildings face progressive degradation as their parent industrial plants get liquidated. The study covers selected residential buildings within the perimeter of the Bobrek housing estate in Bytom – one of the biggest and most characteristic workers’ housing estates in Upper Silesia. This particular housing estate, built in stages from 1888 to the 1920s, demonstrates a full scope of the history of building patronal housing complexes in the region. Currently, like a drop of water, it accumulates all negative phenomena associated with the thoughtlessness and unplanned restructuring of industry, which commenced in the 1990s. The objective of the study was an attempt at assessing the preservation status of existing buildings accompanied by thermal diagnostics based on thermal imaging tests. This assessment seems to be of key importance in determining possibilities and scope of their preservation and effective thermal insulation. Furthermore, it offers a better insight into the degree of complexity of the problem associated with the need to preserve valuable industrial heritage in the scale of the entire region, while reducing operating costs and obtaining a significant reduction of pollution emitted by buildings.

In recent years, the development of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced new possibilities in the field of architecture. In the realm of compo sitional analysis and recognition of architectural details, AI can have a significant impact, supporting historical-architectural research, the valorisation of historic buildings, and design in accordance with historical context. However, the successful use of AI in analysing architectural objects requires large datasets to train and test the models. The article aims to demonstrate the creation of a new dataset containing annotated images. The NeoFaçade collection serves as a historical dataset, containing façades of the 19th and 20th century townhouses from Wrocław and, in due course, other cities with similar architectural styles (for example, Szczecin or Berlin). Gathering highquality photographic material and marking architectural elements accurately, enables to use the dataset for various AI tasks: semantic segmentation, image classification, and generation of pictures of tenement house façades. This way, the NeoFaçade dataset can potentially be applied in architectural practice or historic preservation. The methodology for creating the dataset developed by the authors consists of three stages: preparation of the data acquisition procedure, data processing: creation of a dataset that meets the requirements and a summary of the dataset. All stages are discussed in detail in the paper, including an example annotation of one of the townhouses. In the future, the research team will focus on expanding the collection with new photographs, while also striving to demonstrate NeoFaçade value as a tool supporting innovative research projects and practical applications.

Skuteczne wykorzystanie SI w analizie obiektów architektonicznych wymaga jednak dostarczenia dużych zbiorów danych niezbędnych do trenowania i testowania modeli. Zgromadzenie wysokiej jakości materiału fotograficznego i dokładne oznaczenie elementów architektonicznych umożliwia wykorzystanie zbioru danych w różnych zadaniach sztucznej inteligencji: segmentacji semantycznej, klasyfikacji obrazów, a także w generowaniu elewacji kamienic.

To analyse the role of architecture and faęade graphics in social communication. A few questions need to be answered. Can the message and form of the graphics on a glass faęade be used in shaping social consciousness and creating social identification? One of the aims is to examine the marketing potential of the message in an image on glass, and the potential to use it in building a region’s brand. Design/methodology/approach: The study included 40 buildings in which faęade graphics were used with the aim of conveying a social message. These were examined, and then useful aspects were selected for further analysis, divided into the following categories: demonstration of the city’s pro-environmental policy, demonstration of the city’s pro-innovation policy, historical references, emphasising the importance of local tradition and heritage, emphasising the multicultural nature of the building. The article presents two examples for each of these issues. Findings: Thematic groups of faęade graphics have been established, which may be used for social integration and regional marketing. Research limitations/implications: This is a preliminary study that can subsequently be broadened to include other aspects, such as seeking means of expression or image composition, which are linked to the effectiveness of the message being created. Practical implications: The article shows the opportunities offered by façade graphics in creating social messages; it could provide some direction for decision-makers, investors, architects, and artists. The expected result is a more frequent use of messages in faęade graphics. Social implications: The article discusses the issues of the social role of faęade graphics and art in architecture. It examines the effect of a message contained in an image on the questions of social identification and building connections. Originality/value: The research points to a considerable reach of the impact that faęade graphics can have, and the possibility of using them in regional marketing; it presents their form, scope, and means.

Opracowania obejmujące rekonstrukcję wystroju i wyposażenia stałego fasad historycznych oraz projekty nowych fasad inspirowanych architekturą historyczną stanowią zagadnienie stosunkowo niszowe w twórczości czynnych obecnie architektów i budowniczych. W przypadku tych pierwszych sporządzenie projektów rekonstrukcji zazwyczaj poprzedza inwentaryzacja i analiza zachowanych elementów in-situ, uzupełnione badaniami stratygraficznymi oraz rozpoznaniem dostępnych materiałów ikonograficznych i bibliograficznych. Obiekty z drugiej grupy wymagają szeroko zakrojonej kwerendy archiwalnej a następnie wnikliwego przestudiowania odnalezionych materiałów ikonograficznych.

Projects encompassing the reconstruction of the permanent décor and elements of historic façades as well as designs of new façades inspired by historic architecture are a relatively niche question in the creativity of currently active architects and builders. Over the space of the most recent three decades, the development of designs of such type are most often commissioned to architectural–heritage protection studios specializing in designs involving heritage and historical structures. Among such companies, most certainly worth highlighting in terms of achievements, is the Warsaw–based Proart A. Rostkowska architectural–heritage protection studio. The prime subject of its activities involves designs for renovation and modernization as well as the remodeling, adding levels, and expansion of existing structures encompassed by heritage protection. Among supplemental topics, it is also important to mention less numerous designs for completely new facilities as well as independent and component parts of larger design projects involving the reconstruction of the décor and permanent fixtures of façades and designs for new elevations. Structures that were included in designs taken up by the studio for the reconstruction of façades may be subdivided into two groups —buildings with incompletely or partially preserved décor and those whose décor was subject to complete destruction. In the first case, developing reconstruction designs was usually preceded by survey measurements and an analysis of the elements preserved in–situ. These were supplemented by stratigraphic studies and the identification of available iconographic and bibliographic materials. Facilities in the second group necessitated wide–ranging archival research followed by in–depth studies of identified iconographic materials. In most cases this makes possible the defining of original composition solutions for the façade as well as principles of placement of decorative elements, their layout, and their stylistic face. The detailed identification of applied patterns and motifs, including their tectonics and modeling, usually also requires in–depth studies and analyses of solutions characteristic of the moment the structure was erected. Among designs for the reconstruction of historical décor and elements as developed by Proart, it is a must to name facilities found in Warsaw at the following addresses: No. 8 Floriańska, Nos. 13 and 15 Foksal, No. 7A Górnośląska, and No. 27 Jagiellońska streets. For their part, designs for new façades require not only studies in terms of the stylistic face of the décor and its modeling, but also the relationship with the surrounding context. Among such designs as developed with the participation of Proart are the façades of No. 50 Hoża, No. 22 Jagiellońska, No. 49A Koszykowa, and No. 17 Targowa streets. A look at these examples shows that with appropriate financial funding supported by solid substantive and technical foundations on the part of the designers and builders, designs for the reconstruction of the décor and elements of historical façades as well as designs for new elevations in a traditional spirit can be successful.

The paper presents original research, encompassing the results of analyses of modular building façade solutions, as well as innovative design concepts based on these results by students of the Faculty of Architecture at the Poznań University of Technology. Adapting architecture to climate change is the main objective behind research and innovative designs. Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, thermal comfort of buildings, better thermal environment ergonomics for users of buildings' interiors, increased energy efficiency together with the use of renewable energy sources are major challenges for today's designers. Dealing with rainwater, wind and pressure changes are already absolute necessities. Contemporary trends in modern construction in urban areas were identified on the basis of results of analyses of selected existing buildings, presented using tables, graphs and statistical tools. Conclusions from the demonstrated correlations of quantitative data with social, economic and environmental factors became the basis for the students’ conceptual assumptions. The selected innovative façade designs presented in the article demonstrate a variety of solutions for modern modular systems which protect buildings from excessive sun exposure, help insulation resist external factors, generate energy, ventilate buildings, use pressure differences, collect water, purify air, protect fauna, etc. As a result, the developed concepts may be indicative of a contemporary approach to sustainable building design, based not only on reducing any negative environmental impact and conserving natural resources, but also on designing aesthetic buildings based on classic notions of beauty.
