This study presents a comparative analysis of two three-dimensional reconstruction models of Powder Magazine no. 2 of the 19h-century Cracow Fortress, developed using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and close-range digital photogrammetry to assess the suitability of both methods for the documentation and reconstruction of heritage structures, as well as to evaluate their geometric accuracy and visual quality. The investigated structure was scanned from four positions using a Leica ScanStation P40 and photographed using a Canon EOS 400D camera. Based on the acquired point clouds, two 3D models were generated: a TLS-based model in Autodesk Revit and a photogrammetric model in Trimble SketchUp, both at Level of Detail (LOD) 200. Accuracy assessment was conducted in CloudCompare using the Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) method, supplemented by visual and historical comparisons. The results show high geometric consistency between the datasets (with deviations below 0.2 m) and confirm the effectiveness and complementarity of both techniques in the documentation of cultural heritage. The developed models provide valuable material for scientific research, conservation planning, education, and digital heritage presentation.

This paper presents a city-scale digital documentation and analysis workflow for cultural heritage assets, demonstrated on the example of the UNESCO-listed historic centre and fortress area of Zamość (Poland). The study integrates terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and terrestrial photogrammetry to produce a geometrically consistent 3D dataset covering over 100 buildings and key public-space elements. The processing pipeline includes scan registration, image-based reconstruction, and cross-sensor alignment, followed by the creation of an analytical 3D model segmented by address and parcel identifiers to enable linkage with municipal datasets. A semantic layer is implemented by assigning a structured set of building- and neighbourhood-level parameters and mapping them into building information modelling (BIM)/openBIM structures (Revit shared parameters and industry foundation classes (IFC) Property Sets), targeting a level of information adequate for conservation-oriented diagnostics and urban-scale assessments rather than detailed component-level historic building information modelling (HBIM). Geometric quality is verified using independent checkpoints and registration statistics (e.g., root mean square error (RMSE) where applicable), yielding a typical spatial agreement on the order of 4 cm to 5 cm for the integrated model in representative test areas. The resulting environment supports multi-criteria querying and visualisation, including functional categorisation, technical condition screening (e.g., moisture-related indicators), and energy-related attributes for prioritisation at the district scale. The main contribution is a reproducible integration of multi-source survey data with an explicit semantic/BIM mapping and verifiable accuracy reporting for a heritage city context, clarifying which outputs stem from the proposed method (data integration, segmentation, semantic schema, and validation) versus the standard capabilities of the employed software.
Evaluation of 3D building model quality is central to civil engineering, geodesy, architecture and the construction industry as it facilitates the assessment of the model’s accuracy, completeness and interoperability. The article presents a concept of a versatile method for evaluating the quality of 3D building models, the 3D model evaluation method. It can compare models regardless of their data sources, modelling techniques, visualization and file format. The method covers key quality aspects such as completeness, which reflects the degree to which object components are represented; accuracy, which concerns geometric and positioning integrity; and interoperability, which includes the model’s compliance with standards, editability and reusability. The author investigated a range of 3D modelling approaches, including mesh, solid and parametric models derived from a variety of data sources. The proposed evaluation method is founded on analyzing model attribute values for selected criteria followed by visualization of these values on a radar chart. The model quality index, normalized to [0; 1], quantifies the 3D model quality. The results demonstrate the method’s effectiveness for 3D model evaluation regarding both geometric and non-geometric aspects. The method can be applied in GIS, BIM, spatial analyses, civil engineering and environmental engineering. It provides a single pipeline for classifying and comparing different types of models. The 3D model evaluation method provides a universal, structured and practical basis for comparing 3D models across sources and techniques, ensuring result comparability and consistent quality reporting.

Same modele będą w coraz większym stopniu wykorzystywane do podejmowania decyzji inwestycyjnych i koncesyjnych.

Contemporary directions in the development of global energy policy require increasing synergy in the economic use of the subsurface space. Tools enabling the effective realization of this goal include advanced 3D browsers, which, due to their availability in the public domain, allow for widespread application. However, behind these user-friendly tools lie complex spatial structural-parametric models, both static and dynamic, created using specialized software that integrates large volumes of high-resolution geological and geophysical data. The development of 3D geology and computer modeling is currently the domain of geological services and oil companies, which have access to data and financial resources that allow for the purchase of powerful workstations and specialized software. Projects such as AGASTOR analyze the possibility of constructing natural gas storage facilities in geological structures, considering synergistic use for geothermal energy and CCUS technology. 3D structural-parametric models are crucial for effective subsurface space management and investment decision-making. The MIOCEN3D project, carried out by AGH in collaboration with industry, utilizes and helps develop advanced modeling techniques used to discover hydrocarbon deposits in mature oil basins. Currently, models are the result of human interpretation, but the role of artificial intelligence in the modeling process is gradually increasing. These models will increasingly be used for investment and operational decision making.

Increasing demands for noise reduction are driving the search for new sound attenuation methods, particularly in ventilation ducts where airflow must be maintained. In this context, wave-based structures, especially sonic crystals and the integration of Helmholtz resonators, are gaining growing interest. This paper presents a study on noise reduction in ventilation ducts using sound-scattering structures with local resonators. Finite element simulations were carried out to analyze the effects of resonator geometry, slit orientation, and the potential for tuning resonance frequencies. The results showed that integrating resonators significantly improves attenuation in the low and mid-frequency ranges. Experimental measurements of physical models confirmed the effectiveness of the attenuation, while also highlighting the influence of material and geometric imperfections on the accuracy of the results.

The article also highlights the evolution of university campuses and emphasizes the importance of on-campus services in enhancing student satisfaction. Furthermore, three-dimensional visualization is discussed as an effective tool for presenting the analyzed results and spatial data, aiding in understanding student expectations for academic spaces.
Environmental valorisation plays a crucial role in comprehensive understanding and effective man agement of the complex interactions between natural and anthropogenic landscape components a. It is particularly relevent in areas characterized by varied topography, rich ecological diversity, and increasing human pressure, such as the Limanowa region in southern Poland. The study presented here utilized Geographic Information System (GIS) tools in combination with high-resolution aerial photogrammetry to conduct a detailed environmental assessment of this mountainous area. By focusing on key environmental parameters, including vegetation cover, hydrological networks, and terrain morphology, the research employed spatial analysis alongside both qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods. The results of the study underscore the central importance of terrain relief, which emerged as the most influential environmental factor shaping local ecological patterns. The diverse landforms not only dictate the distribution and composition of vegetation but also guide the configuration of natural watercourses and valleys. Despite covering only 17% of the total area, forested zones were identified as crucial ecological corridors that support biodiversity, enhance connectivity, and act as natural buffers against erosion and climate extremes. Additionally, the presence of natural streams and valley systems contributes to the functional integrity of the landscape and enriches its aesthetic value, making the region attractive for nature-based tourism and outdoor recreation. However, the analysis also identified significant environmental constraints. The prevalence of steep slopes and areas with low soil fertility poses notable challenges for agriculture and limits the potential for urban expansion. These physical limitations necessitate a cautious and well-informed approach to spatial planning, especially when it comes to balancing conservation goals with the socio-economic aspirations of local communities. To synthesize these findings, the study integrated a set of thematic maps with a 3D numerical terrain model (NTM), providing a multidimensional understanding of environmental interrelations. This integrative approach allowed for the identification of zones with high ecological value, areas susceptible to degradation, and locations suitable for specific forms of land use or protection. Ultimately, the research offers a practical and replicable methodology for regional planners, environmental managers, and policymakers aiming to develop sustainable land-use strategies. It demonstrates how environmental valorisation can support informed decision-making that reconciles ecological integrity with human development, particularly in regions with complex landscapes and environmental sensitivities.

Te ograniczenia fizyczne wymagają ostrożnego i świadomego podejścia do planowania przestrzennego, zwłaszcza w kontekście równoważenia celów ochrony środowiska z aspiracjami społeczno-ekonomicznymi lokalnych społeczności. Ostatecznie badania oferują praktyczną i powtarzalną metodologię dla planistów regionalnych, zarządców środowiska i decydentów politycznych, którzy dążą do opracowania zrównoważonych strategii użytkowania gruntów.

Efficient production of hydrocarbons from carbonates, due to their highly variable geological and petrophysical properties, provides unique challenges for both geologists and production engineers. Therefore, it was decided to consolidate information coming from different disciplines into coherent, integrated (static and dynamic) models of the Kościan and Brońsko reservoirs. This process started with analysing core data and building a sedimentological model while simultaneous interpretation of well data (logs and laboratory tests). The results of this work were used as an input data for construction of static models, which were then iteratively history matched to the production data in the dynamic model until a satisfactory result was achieved. The calibrated model obtained in this way was used to prepare production forecasts with a relatively high level of confidence.
Pięć z nich zostało utworzonych w sczerpanych złożach gazu ziemnego, a dwa w kawernach solnych.

Natural gas, the most ecological fossil fuel, is characterized by low CO2 emissions and no dust pollution during combustion. Currently, seven Underground Gas Storage Facilities operate in Poland as part of the gas system. Five of them were created in depleted natural gas deposits, and two in salt caverns. The primary functions of Underground Gas Storage Facilities include meeting increased winter gas demand, optimizing the gas system, and serving as strategic reserves. However, recent analyzes have shown that, when comparing the active capacity of domestic storage facilities to the average capacity of EU countries, the current capacity of Underground Gas Storage Facilities in Poland is insufficient and should be expanded to 7.56 billion m3. This article presents a design concept for expanding the active capacity of a virtual underground gas storage facility, aiming to increase it to 130% of the current active capacity. A 3D digital simulation model was created using Baker Hughes’ JewelSuite 6.2, along with a spatial distribution model of the facies and parametric models such as spatial distribution of the geophysical porosity and permeability coefficient, electrical resistivity and neutron porosity coefficient. This approach allowed for the selection of the optimal location of new exploitation wells required for increased injection and active capacity. The concept specifies the additional active capacity achievable with an upper operating pressure of the installation not exceeding 8.32 MPa and details the basic parameters of the UGS after expansion to 130% of its current active capacity. The article proposes drilling five new horizontal wells. As horizontal wells generally perform better than vertical wells, this number will enable the collection of new active capacity within 122 days.
Upper limb prosthetic is an area of medical research and development that aims to restore functionality and improve the quality of life of people affected by the loss of one or both upper limbs. The development and implementation of 3D scanning tools and analysis of 3D scanning data requires the use of specialized analysis methods that ensure the achievement of the required indicators. It should take into account the impact of the model resolution on the result. This paper is devoted to the analysis of finding matches between a point cloud of a hand model and another point cloud using Gromov Wasserstein distance. For analysis, a subset of the MANO dataset was employed, containing a substantial volume of data and serving as a representative sample of the human population. The results obtained indicate the possibility of using this approach in the processing and analysis of three-dimensional data, which serves as one of the stages of designing individualized prostheses.

Today, surveying technologies used in geodesy play a key role in the documentation and analysis of objects. The development of surveying techniques has been significantly influenced by improvements in hardware and software for data collection and processing. In addition to traditional methods such as surveying, photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques, which allow much more data to be collected in a relatively short period of time, are being developed at a remarkable rate. These techniques make it possible to create spatial models of objects, on the basis of which a more extensive analysis and the acquisition of technical documentation can be conducted. The study used a mobile laser scanning technique and non-metric images to acquire data to create a 3D model of a historic sacred building. The scanning was performed using a low-cost handheld mobile laser scanner (MLS) equipped with a Livox-Mid360 sensor from MandEye, based on SLAM technology derived from robotics, which was mounted on a bracket and stand made by Ronin. The images were taken using the camera of a Samsung Galaxy M51 mobile phone. The object of the study was the historic wooden church of St. Mark in Rodaki. The object was modelled in the Agisoft Metashape and Cyclon 3DR programs. The created models were compared by creating a differential model in CloudCompare software.

Obecnie technologie geodezyjne wykorzystywane w geodezji odgrywają kluczową rolę w dokumentowaniu i analizie obiektów. W badaniu wykorzystano mobilną technikę skanowania laserowego i obrazy niemetryczne do pozyskania danych w celu stworzenia modelu 3D zabytkowego budynku sakralnego. Marka w Rodaki. Obiekt został wymodelowany w programach Agisoft Metashape i Cyclon 3DR. Utworzone modele porównano, tworząc model różnicowy w oprogramowaniu CloudCompare.
This study provides a thorough analysis of the impact of different image file formats on the accuracy of photogrammetric studies using non-metric cameras. It specifically examines three widely used data storage formats: digital RAW negatives, lossless TIFF files, and compressed JPEG files, evaluating their effectiveness across various measurement conditions. The research involved photogrammetric measurements of two distinct test objects, providing a basis to evaluate how the choice of equipment and data format influences the quality of the resulting 3D models. The findings from this study highlight that the RAW format offers the highest quality and fidelity of detail in photogrammetric models, which is particularly crucial for professional applications where extreme accuracy is required. Conversely, the TIFF format, while balancing quality and file size, introduces minor geometric errors that might be acceptable in applications with less stringent accuracy demands. The JPEG format, although the most efficient in terms of file size reduction, shows the greatest level of distortion and the lowest level of model geometry accuracy. This is attributed to the lossy nature of JPEG compression, which significantly compromises the precision needed for high-quality photogrammetric output. Consequently, the study underscores the importance of selecting the appropriate file format based on the specific accuracy requirements of the photogrammetric task at hand.
The article presents evaluation of road pavement surface diagnostics performed using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The work encompasses analysis of the potential for use of UAVs in pavement condition diagnostics, the methodology of field surveys and use of photogrammetry software. The experimental part includes a comparison of the results obtained for chosen types of pavement distress using orthophotomaps (created from images captured with UAV during flights at four different altitudes) and data obtained in field using a measuring tape and a total station. The results indicated that the measurement accuracy for chosen types of pavement distress (potholes, patches, cracks) obtained using typical surveying methods was similar to that obtained using aerial imaging technology (the difference does not exceed 1 cm). Using an unmanned aerial vehicle with an 1/2" image sensor, focal length of 24 mm and flight altitude of 5 m, it is possible to detect cracks from 1 mm in size; in the case of flight altitude of 30 m it is possible to detect cracks from 4 mm. The presented analyses indicate that UAVs may be successfully used in road surface feature diagnostics as an independent early damage detection system or as an extension of traditional surveying methods.

W artykule przedstawiono ocenę techniki wykonywania diagnostyki cech powierzchniowych nawierzchni drogowej przy wykorzystaniu bezzałogowego statku powietrznego. Opisano możliwość wykorzystania technologii bezzałogowych statków powietrznych w diagnostyce stanu nawierzchni, metodykę badań związaną z pomiarami terenowymi, a także wykorzystaniem oprogramowania fotogrametrycznego.

The article presents the results of an experiment related to wildlife inventory control with the use of data from terrestrial laser scanning. The measurements were performed with the terrestrial laser scanning system – Riegl VZ-400i. The study area was the Obrońców Westerplatte square in Wrocław. The collected measurement data were pre-processed in a commercial – dedicated RiSCAN Pro environment. Operations related to point cloud georeferencing and its filtering were performed. The tree parameters were measured on the basis of a cloud point obtained in field surveys. This operation was performed with the use of the 3D Forest software. The investigations covered the main parameters of the tree (height and diameter) along with additional parameters, such as the distance between two points of the tree located furthest apart, the surface area of the orthogonal projection of the tree on the reference surface (terrain surface) and the height of the tree crown above the terrain surface. As a result of the performed analyses, an inventory of 70 trees was made within the Obrońców Westerplatte square in Wrocław. Part of the experiment was also to prepare a 3D model of a tree by using some available modeling algorithms. This part was performed in Sequoia software - dedicated to such operations. The software offers three modeling algorithms: Zhu/Bridson, metaballs and union of spheres.
