Purpose: This paper analyses strategic alliance management practices in small and medium¬sized enterprises (SMEs) in Poland, focusing on organisational roles, monitoring tools, stages of cooperation development, and mechanisms used to align partners’ goals and strategies in resource-constrained environments. Design/methodology/approach: The study adopts a qualitative research design based on semi-structured interviews conducted in 2024 with representatives of ten Polish SMEs involved in strategic alliances within an international Erasmus+ project. This approach enables an in-depth examination of alliance management processes, organisational arrangements, and competence development practices, grounded in the literature on alliance management and inter- organisational cooperation. Findings: The results show that 90% of the surveyed SMEs do not employ a dedicated Alliance Manager, with alliance coordination handled on an ad hoc basis by owners or senior managers. Competence development related to alliance management is largely reactive, while monitoring relies mainly on informal assessments rather than structured tools. Most alliances remain at the stage of formalising cooperation frameworks and do not progress to joint investments. Goal alignment between partners is partial and usually limited to selected initiatives rather than fully integrated strategic alignment. Based on these findings, the paper proposes recommendations including the professionalisation of alliance management roles, more systematic competence development, standardisation of monitoring practices, deeper formalisation of cooperation, and the introduction of structured knowledge management mechanisms. Research limitations/implications: The qualitative nature of the study and the small sample size limit the generalisability of the findings. Future research could expand the analysis to larger and more diverse samples of SMEs. Practical implications: The findings highlight key organisational gaps in alliance management and suggest that even in resource-constrained SMEs, introducing formal coordination roles, monitoring mechanisms, and knowledge management practices may enhance alliance effectiveness. Originality/value: The paper provides original empirical evidence on alliance management practices in Polish SMEs, revealing the gap between theoretical models and everyday managerial practice.

Purpose: This article critically examines and synthesizes the development of the knowledge management (KM) process over the past quarter-century, tracing its conceptual roots from Peter Drucker’s foundational ideas to contemporary academic discourse. By mapping the evolution and highlighting the conceptual ambiguities surrounding the definition of KM, this article aims to provide conceptual clarity and a unified framework. Design/methodology/approach: The purpose of this study is achieved through a comprehensive literature review, which serves as the primary research method. This approach enables a structured and in-depth examination of academic publications from the past 25 years related to knowledge management (KM) processes. This study conducts a comparative analysis of existing definitions, conceptual frameworks, and current discourse on KM. The paper adopts a conceptual and analytical approach, focusing on the theoretical foundations and evolution of KM. Findings: Through a comprehensive review of scholarly literature, it identifies the fragmentation in KM interpretations and responds to this challenge by proposing a refined, four-part classification: knowledge creation, storage, sharing, and usage. This framework is intended to structure the complex dynamics of KM more coherently and to support researchers and practitioners in understanding how knowledge effectively circulates, evolves, and contributes to organizational value creation in a cyclical and integrated manner. Research limitations/implications: The findings of this study are based on a narrative literature review and conceptual synthesis, which may not encompass all relevant sources and involve subjective judgment in process categorization. Additionally, the proposed framework has not yet been empirically tested. Originality/value: Through a comprehensive review of scholarly literature, this paper identifies the fragmentation in KM interpretations and responds to this challenge by proposing a refined, four-part classification: knowledge creation, storage, sharing, and usage.

Purpose: The article is focused on presenting the main authors contributing to the development of knowledge management (KM) in organizations, evidence-based management (EBM) and Integrated Qualifications System (IQS) and exploring their different views. The aim of this article is a literature review to assess existing knowledge, identify gaps, and recognize areas requiring additional research. Based on the identified gaps and trends, the review provides a basis for formulating a theoretical framework for authors’ own research - distinguish the interrelations between Knowledge Management (KM) in organizations, Evidence-Based Management (EBM) and Integrated Qualifications System (IQS) in Poland. The article aims to explore how these three components can be integrated to enhance decision making processes, support competency development, and improve organizational performance - presenting authors’ conceptual model. Design/methodology/approach: The article aims to explore how these three components can be integrated to enhance decision making processes, support competency development, and improve organizational performance. It also seeks to identify opportunities and challenges in implementing evidence-based practices and national qualification frameworks as tools for knowledge management in organizations. Findings: The findings of this article highlight that knowledge alone is insufficient without mechanisms for its validation and application, just as qualifications without knowledge management risk becoming static and outdated. Evidence-based decision-making serves as the bridge between these two domains, ensuring that organizational strategies are grounded in empirical data, stakeholder insight, and real-world outcomes. Originality/value: An identification the interrelations between Knowledge Management (KM) in organizations, Evidence-Based Management (EBM) and Integrated Qualifications System (IQS) in Poland and presenting authors’ conceptual model.

Contemporary technical systems, which are increasingly complex and automated, require a new perspective on the relationship between humans and technology in the context of human safety. At the core of these considerations is both the role of the human factor in safety and environmental management systems and the organizational aspects that connect technical, organizational, and human issues. Integrating these areas, fundamentally based on knowledge management, allows for the construction of safety systems that meet the requirements of a responsible approach to risk. The purpose of this article is to present the processes of creating new knowledge and the methods of experience transfer within selected organizational units of the State Fire Service (PSP) in specific provinces of Poland. The research, conducted from September 2022 to September 2025, consisted of an analysis of existing documents regarding the training of PSP officers and a qualitative sociological analysis, and focused on participant observation conducted during planned exercises, officer training and actual rescue operations involving the PSP. The primary goal of the observation was to monitor the process of introducing and practically utilizing the Staff Support System (SWS) software, a tool designed to aid staff operations during largescale rescue actions. The observation covered the officers' interaction with the system, the identification of methods for creating new system functionalities, and the methods of experience transfer regarding its operation among staff participants. The study was carried out in selected PSP organizational units to capture differences in the adaptation and utilization of this technology.

The aim of this article is to answer current questions relevant to large enterprises that view reality through the prism of their values: is there a relationship between the fact of using AI for market analysis (binary indicator) and the size of the enterprise applying ESG standards (measured by the scale of its turnover) and the profits it generates? Among companies that apply ESG standards, does the use of AI for market analysis lead to higher absolute profit? Estimating a logistic regression model and a linear regression model (sample of 93 large Polish enterprises) revealed that the use of AI does not show a statistically significant relationship with the amount of enterprise turnover and profit. This may indicate the need for companies applying ESG standards to further improve their competencies and good practices in using the potential of AI. The study is limited by the small sample size and narrow scope of questions, but the results reveal the dilemmas facing this new aspect of business activity.

Sustainable building modernisation is an important step towards reducing the negative environmental impact of buildings, reducing energy consumption in existing residential buildings, creating more comfortable and functional living conditions, and improving their technical condition. Unfortunately, this is a burdensome, time-consuming and costly process that requires difficult decision-making. They must reasonably enable the intended sustainability goals to be achieved. Bearing this in mind, the article presents research on the issue of modernisation residential buildings. The aim is to provide up-to-date knowledge aimed at supporting modernisation decision-making. A study of the literature shows that research on sustainable modernisation of residential buildings is very extensive and unsystematic. Research areas include issues focused primarily on environmental and economic sustainability goals. More and more research is being conducted towards modernisation that takes into account wider social needs. Recent research points to the need to implement more holistic modernisation scenarios that meet a broader set of sustainability goals and criteria and that involve more stakeholders at earlier stages of modernisation. However, achieving sustainable building goals requires decision support for contrasting objectives when selecting optimal modernisation strategies. Therefore, increasingly better and more efficient tools, methods and decision support systems are being developed that provide systematic approaches for carrying out sustainable building modernisations. Building renovation decisions also require the identification and removal of barriers to modernisation and the skilful management of the various types of knowledge in terms of its creation, processing and use, providing the various stakeholders with appropriately processed knowledge during the residential modernisation stage.

The processes of globalisation, the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 epidemic, the continuing war in Ukraine, and constantly emerging new technological solutions require organisations to adapt to changes constantly. Meanwhile, implemented business process management (BPM) often fails to integrate processes and knowledge resources. The awareness of the IT systems’ role in management processes is still lacking. These premises influenced the implementation of the main research goal to identify the approach of Polish private and public enterprises and various industries to the BPM integration with knowledge management (MK) in the context of using new information technologies. The presented research results justify the usefulness of building relationships between the process and knowledge resources under dynamically changing conditions using IT systems. The diagnostic survey results confirmed the key importance of developing such BPM and MK elements as evidencebased decisions, strategic goals, measurement systems, databases, digital innovations, and IT use for data processing. The presented material can support managers of various organisation types in decision-making processes by fully understanding the IT systems’ role and potential in process and knowledge management. Also, the article’s implications are a source of guidelines, helping organisations to implement management systems based on modern technologies. The value of the publication is a wide range of respondents: 107 large, medium, small, and micro-enterprises operating in Poland. The article’s research results also concern economic activities such as production, logistics, transport, banking, insurance, IT, telecommunications/ media, public administration, healthcare/pharmaceuticals, consulting, energy, and construction.

Increasingly, when taking action on a company, it is essential to bear in mind the relationship between supplier and customer, which is a crucial element in determining a company’s presence in the market. In this area, human capital, knowledge and intellectual capital are also increasingly appreciated, especially in the long term. More and more companies understand that knowledge management is a step towards improving not only the selected process (in the case under study, in the area of cooperation with suppliers) but also the entire organization. The purpose of this article is to check whether in companies operating in Poland in the metal industry, the staff subconsciously uses elements of knowledge management - implementation of practices developed in the company, modification of existing procedures, sharing knowledge in the team, independent actions to improve the performance of work - which may be she had never heard. The research instrument that allowed to obtain the results was a questionnaire. The most important element of the review of the obtained results was the analysis of the importance ofknowledge management factors and their impact on the formation of mutual relations between suppliers and partners of selected enterprises in the metal industry in the context of selected Toyota management principles. The adopted approach made it possible to identify differences in the responses of the respondents in both groups of enterprises, while providing a basis for further research on the directions of improving cooperation with suppliers using elements of knowledge management.

Przyjęte podejście umożliwiło zidentyfikowanie różnic w odpowiedziach ankietowanych w obu grupach przedsiębiorstw, dając jednocześnie podstawy do dalszych badań nad kierunkami doskonalenia współpracy z dostawcami, wykorzystując elementy zarządzania wiedzą.
