Cassava is one of Indonesia's largest agricultural commodities. Currently, its use is primarily confined to tubers, resulting in the production of solid cassava peel waste. Notably, cassava peel contains a high carbohydrate content, comprising up to 50% of the carbohydrates found in the tubers. Additionally, the high cost of granulated sugar and the inability of the national sugar industry to meet Indonesia's sugar demand have become significant concerns. Consequently, this study aimed to explore the use of cassava peel waste as an alternative raw material for glucose syrup, which can potentially serve as a sugar substitute. Nine experimental treatments were tested to determine the optimal glucose syrup. The best glucose syrup was identified using an integration of the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and weighted product method (WPM). AHP was employed to establish the weighted priorities of the criteria and sub-criteria, followed by WPM to determine the alternative weights and rank the options. The third treatment emerged as the best alternative, with a weight of 0.124, comprising 60 g cassava peel starch, 0.06 mL glucoamylase, and 2 mL α-amylase. The test results for the glucose syrup from this treatment included a reducing sugar content of 33.51%, moisture content of 64.419%, ash content of 0.137%, an organoleptic colour value of 3 (slightly cloudy), a taste rating of 3.93 (sweet), and an aroma rating of 2.93 (slightly odorous). The utilization of this waste is anticipated to enhance its economic value while mitigating its environmental impact.

Najlepszy syrop glukozowy zidentyfikowano, stosując integrację procesu hierarchii analitycznej (AHP) i metody ważonego produktu (WPM). AHP wykorzystano do ustalenia ważonych priorytetów kryteriów i podkryteriów, a następnie WPM do określenia alternatywnych wag i uszeregowania opcji.

The subject of the paper is an attempt to create a simple, but at the same time universal system for assessing variants of railway investments, which after modifications could also be used when assessing other types of construction investments. Selected branches of criteria are subject to optional divisions, allowing the system to be adapted to a specific case. The system is based on the parameterization of subjective assessments using the AHP method. The developed method provides for the possibility of adopting various points of view, including the passenger, investor or designer. The method itself is preceded by an analysis of the methods used in existing studies, such as feasibility studies, in which variants of railway investments are present. The entire issue is considered in the light of not only real needs, but also the generally understood philosophy of construction and engineering.

Development of metropolitan areas entails a need to use railways as a significant mode of transport within urban agglomerations. In order to obtain a reliable view of passengers’ expectations regarding the newly established and modernized stops, a survey was conducted. The AHP method was used to analyse the results of this study to determine the weights of the individual criteria examined. The article contains details about the survey itself and a description of the method for obtaining the weight values of the criteria. The results clearly indicate that the criterion of the highest importance to passengers is the frequency of trains, which turned out to be more than twice as important to them as the proximity of the stop or the possibility of changing to another mode of transport. The respondents did not attributemuch importance to the equipment of the stop, the need to interfere with the existing development or environmental aspects. The criterion that obtained unclear results is the issue of the costs of the railway investment.

Pairwise comparison-based inference for deriving priority weights has a longstanding history. However, its widespread application in multiple-criteria decision analysis began in the early 1980s with the introduction of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a decision-making framework proposed by T. Saaty. A core tenet of the AHP is the reciprocity property, which is widely accepted and often treated as fundamental in constructing pairwise comparison matrices. Nonetheless, only a few studies have questioned whether this artificially imposed reciprocity might, in fact, degrade the quality of prioritization outcomes. This paper critically examines the validity of the reciprocity assumption and its impact on the accuracy of priority weight estimation. Through extensive computer simulations involving various prioritization-quality metrics, we find that enforcing reciprocity in pairwise comparisons often leads to significantly poorer prioritization outcomes. These results cast serious doubt on the usefulness of the reciprocity axiom in practical applications. We also discuss the methodological implications of relaxing this assumption and propose modified AHP methods that support more flexible and potentially more accurate judgment structures in the AHP practice.

This paper presents the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in the selection of wall construction materials, taking into account airborne sound insulation, construction costs, and the building’s primary energy demand. The analysis covered three commonly used materials in residential construction: ceramic hollow blocks (POROTHERM), aerated concrete (YTONG), and calcium silicate blocks (SILKA). Particular emphasis was placed on the acoustic performance due to the building’s location in an area exposed to traffic noise. A pairwise comparison matrix was used in the AHP framework, assigning weights to each criterion: 53.9% for sound insulation (Rw), 29.7% for primary energy demand (EP), and 16.3% for construction cost. The final AHP ranking indicated that sound insulation had the greatest influence on the outcome, leading to the selection of SILKA as the most favorable material. Despite having the highest construction cost and moderate energy performance, SILKA proved the most effective, confirming its suitability where acoustic comfort is prioritized. The results provide practical support for designers and investors in selecting building materials for single-family houses, particularly in locations subject to increased environmental noise.
This study aims to assess flood susceptibility in the El Malabiod watershed in Algeria, using a combined approach of morphometric analysis, land use/land cover mapping, soil texture mapping, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Morphometric analysis quantified the geomorphological characteristics of the basin, such as slope, drainage density, and relief, which influence the hydrological behavior of the basin. Concurrently, land use/land cover and soil texture maps were integrated to provide a comprehensive view of surface factors affecting flood susceptibility. These criteria were synthesized into a flood susceptibility map, identifying areas of high, moderate, and minimal risk, thereby facilitating flood risk planning and management. The results show a significant correlation between high susceptibility zones and historically recorded flood events, confirming the validity of the adopted methodology. This work provides a valuable tool for local decision-makers and water resource managers, assisting in the implementation of flood prevention and management measures, and optimizing land use planning in the El Malabiod basin.

A well-designed classroom environment is essential for effective learning, and natural light plays a fundamental role in creating a space conductive to concentration and comfort. This study investigates the intricate relationship between visual comfort and natural light in classroom by employing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). AHP emerges as an invaluable tool for lighting engineers, architects, and decision-makers in the education sector. It allows them to systematically identify rank, and prioritize the factors that most significantly influence daylight quality. The architectural elements examined in this study include the climate, color of walls and ceiling, window design, and dimensions, orientation of the classroom, and the presence of shading elements. Interior design considerations, such as furniture arrangement, choice of materials, and the height of desks and chairs, are also evaluated for their impact on natural lighting. Collectively, these variables shape the overall lighting environment of a classroom. This study aims to determine the relative importance of each factor, providing valuable insights that can guide evidence-based design strategies to enhance student performance through improved lighting. The findings confirms that daylight quality in classrooms necessitates taking into account a number of key factors, with a focus on climate and hour of the day as well as window design and color. These insights are guided by the outcomes of the AHP evaluation. It allows for comprehensive assessments of lighting quality by systematically weighing the various factors that influence both natural and artificial lighting, facilitating informed decisions about design improvements and optimal funding allocation.

Floods are among the most hazardous natural disasters, which pose significant threats to human lifeat both global and national scales due to severe human, material, and environmental losses. The increasing frequency of floods, compared to other natural hazards, highlights the urgent need of their evaluation and the mitigation of their impacts. This study aimed to assess and map flood-prone areas in the city of Sidi Aissa, Algeria, using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and geographic information systems (GIS). The city was chosen because of the three rivers running through it. A model combining a multi-criteria statistical approach and GIS was employed. The study focused on analyzing the factors influencing flood occurrence, including land use, elevation, slope, drainage density, distance from river and roads, topographic wetness index (T.W.I), and normalized difference vegetation index (N.D.V.I), To calculate the weights of these factors in the GIS environment, the AHP method was applied, resulting in maps specific to each criterion. The results revealed that land use (21.7%) and distance from river (18.2%) are the most critical factors influencing flood susceptibility and damage to nearby buildings. The study shaped a flood susceptibility map divided into three categories: areas with very low flood susceptibility, accounting for 29% of the total area; areas with moderate flood susceptibility, accounting for 40% and areas highly susceptible to flooding, making up 31%. Furthermore, the study demonstrated the effectiveness of using AHP and GIS in simulating potential floods and identifying flood-prone areas, thereby highlighting their importance in planning and mitigating flood risks in the future.

Flood modeling provides useful information to assist manage flood hazards and lessen the effects of floods in locations that are vulnerable to flooding. The present research established flood hazard maps for the Ngan Sau, Ngan Pho river basin using GIS technology and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The precision of flood simulation results is dependent on criteria that cause flooding. The goal of this study was to evaluate the role of relative slope length in flood hazard identification and delineation. The AHP method was used to determine the respective weights of six physical geography and meteorology factors including rainfall, slope, soil, land use, drainage density, and relative slope length. In the process of computing the model, these factors are classified into two groups: group 1 includes five criteria excluding the relative slope length criterion and group 2 has all six parameters. Based on flood warning levels at hydrological stations in the research area during past floods, the results of flood hazard zoning were verified. The obtained findings indicated that map developed from the group of criteria including the relative slope length are more accurate than those generated based on the remaining five factors. The results of the paper can be used as a reference when choosing criteria for creating flood hazard zoning models utilizing a combination the AHP and GIS technology.

Do określenia odpowiednich wag w AHP wykorzystano sześć czynników geograficznych i metrologicznych — opady deszczu, nachylenie, gleba, użytkowanie gruntów, gęstość drenażu i względna długość zbocza.

The impact of civil engineering course education on civil engineers is profound and crucial. Due to the hierarchical and ambiguous nature of quality assessment for flipped classroom teaching, there is an urgent demand for a rational and effective approach to conduct such assessments. This would enable the targeted formulation of instructional improvement methods based on assessment outcomes, ultimately elevating the quality of pedagogy. This study combines the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy evaluation method. The fuzzy evaluation method is utilized to identify four primary evaluation factor sets, fourteen secondary judgment factor sets, and five evaluation outcome sets, with subsequent quantification of the assessment results. The analytic hierarchy process is employed to ascertain the weight coefficients of the evaluation factors. The comprehensive assessment model for flipped classroom teaching quality is established. The assessment results indicate that the overall quality of flipped classroom teaching in the civil engineering major at Anhui University of Science and Technology, conducted through the platform of Superstar Learning Hub, falls within the ‘Good’ category. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation score for extracurricular learning quality is the lowest, and the weight proportion attributed to flipped classroom infrastructure is the highest. Consequently, several targeted improvement measures are proposed to enhance the quality of flipped classroom teaching.
Road construction has been an ongoing engineering practice throughout human history. Although road construction technologies have changed over time, the raw material used has not changed for centuries, and it seems that it will not change in the upcoming centuries. Although some standards are used to determine the aggregate quality in road construction works, it is often complex and laborious to identify the aggregates that best meet the standards. Long-lasting and high-quality roads can be built and the most suitable aggregate is selected for the road. This study aims to select the most suitable aggregates used in hot-mix asphalt pavement production for road construction. In this study, multi-criteria decision-making methods were used for the selection of the aggregate that provides the best conditions. Aggregates used in constructing roads within the provincial borders of Ankara are produced from six stone quarries. To rank these aggregates and determine the ideal quarry for hot-mix asphalt production, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) method, which are multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods, were used. The results obtained from the tests on aggregates and hot-mix asphalts (HMA) were compared with the the best results based on the maximum and minimum limits determined in the standards. By comparing the the best results of the standards with the test results of the aggregates, weight scores were made for each test. Weight scores were scored and classified using the AHP and TOPSIS multi-criteria decision-making methods. As a result, the aggregate with the highest score and the quarry area represented by the aggregate were determined as the most suitable for hot-mix asphalt construction.

Wyniki uzyskane z badań kruszyw i asfaltów na gorąco (HMA) porównano z najlepszymi wynikami wynikającymi z maksymalnych i minimalnych limitów określonych w normach.
The use of robotic equipment and a new technique called contour crafting allows for the construction of buildings at lower labor and material costs. The selection of the type of robot is an important factor that affects the overall performance of the contour crafting (CC) system. Various robot configurations, such as gantry, cylindrical, and SCARA, may be employed for contour crafting. There are benefits and drawbacks to using different types of robots for various tasks, including cost, work volume, material compatibility, and precision. Identifying a proper robot using the multi-criterion decision-making (MCDM) technique is crucial for successful building automation. This article uses the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method to rank the best robots according to several characteristics. Cartesian robots, cylindrical robots, and SCARA robots were evaluated based on cost, accuracy, work volume, surface finish, type of profile, and speed. The results showed that the gantry-type robot is the most suitable option, while the cylindrical robot is unsuitable for building construction due to lower accuracy.
Cost overrun during construction is one of the most common problems occur in construction projects around the world, which also includes the area of Chongqing in China. At present, there are few studies related to cost overruns at the construction stage of high-rise residential building projects (HRBPs) in Chongqing. The purpose of this study is to develop effective control measures from the contractor’s perspective to help projects to minimize cost overruns during the construction phase of HRBPs in Chongqing. Firstly, through the literature review and semi-structured interviews, 65 cost overrun-related risk factors in construction projects were identified. All the risk factors have been prioritized through the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) based on their importance to project success. Out of the 65 factors identified, 12 were classified as the critical ones that have a great potential to instigate a cost overrun during construction to take place in the real project. There were four risk factors that have the greatest impact on cost overruns, and their weights were 0.04 or above, including low bid, force majeure, undetailed/inaccurate geological survey data, and increased loan interest rates. Finally, control measures were developed for these four critical cost overrun risk factors (CCORFs). The measures developed provided a guideline to control the risk of cost overruns and clear control key points to help contractors minimize cost overruns on construction projects.
The article presents selected types of phase change materials (PCM) and their properties in terms of applications in construction and concrete technology. The purpose of using PCM is to allow the technological barrier to be exceeded in hot and dry climate conditions, enabling the construction of non-cracking concrete structures. Methodology of the multi-criteria decision-making process with the use of a relatively new decision-making tool in construction - the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) is presented. Theoretical aspects of the method and an example of its practical use for the selection of the best material variant and concrete care method in the dry Syrian climate are presented. The conclusions resulting from the presented article concern two areas, i.e. the advisability of using phase change materials for temperature regulation in the maturing fresh concrete in dry climate conditions and the attractiveness of the AHP method justifying the advisability of choosing the maintenance methods in such conditions.

Wnioski płynące z przedstawionego artykułu dotyczą dwóch obszarów, tj. celowości stosowania materiałów PCM z przemianą fazową o stosunkowo niskiej temperaturze do regulacji temperatury w dojrzewającym świeżym betonie w suchych warunkach klimatycznych oraz atrakcyjności metody AHP uzasadniającej celowość wyboru alternatywnych metod pielęgnacji młodego betonu w takich warunkach.
Pioneers of the digital era have invented a different business model and expanded the existence of the digital economy, and the digital entrepreneurship is the beginning of this digital revolution. To explore the key characteristics of digital entrepreneurs, this study is divided into two stages. The first stage conducted a literature review and case study to construct the characteristic elements of the entrepreneurship into a model of digital entrepreneurs. In the second stage, the relative weights of the key characteristics of digital entrepreneurs are understood through an analysis of the AHP questionnaire results. The results show that autonomy and selfdiscipline are keys among the main dimensions of the key characteristics of digital entrepreneurs' entrepreneurship; the secondary dimension of "action power" is key in the main dimension of "autonomy and self-discipline"; the secondary dimension of "business networks" is key in the main dimension of "social capital"; the secondary dimension of "insight" is key in the main dimension of "innovation and breakthrough"; the secondary dimension of "communication ability" is key in the main dimension of "leadership communication".

Water scarcity and soil erosion are the main constraints small holder farmers are facing in Tigray, the northern most part of Ethiopia. Both very high and very low precipitation can cause a damage to agriculture which is the case in semi-arid regions like Tigray. While too little rainfall cannot support the growth of crops resulting in crop failure, the short but intense rainfall also causes a runoff thereby washing away essential soil nutrients. Installation of different micro/macro-catchment rainwater harvesting can address both water scarcity and soil erosion if they are properly designed prior to construction. This research was intended to develop a methodology for identifying suitable rainwater harvesting (rwh) sites by using weighted overlay analysis. It also utilizes Ahp (analytical hierarchy process) as effective multi-criterion decision-making tool in eastern Tigray at Kilte Awlaelo district on an area of 1001 km2 . This method was chosen because it is simple to use, cost effective, flexible and widely adopted. Physical, hydrological, climate and socio-economic aspects were taken into account during criteria selection. The result indicated four suitability classes with 8.74% highly suitable areas (85.25 km2 ), 56% suitable areas (550.75 km2 ), 30.8% moderately suitable areas (303.2 km2 ) and 4.46% less suitable areas (43.87 km2 ). The produced rwh suitability map was also validated by both ground truth on google earth pro and a field trip to the study site. In situ and ex situ rwh including bench terraces, wells, and enclosure areas were identified during the field visit that verified the suitability model. Finally, depending on weight and scale of criteria and sub-criteria that matched to each identified suitable areas, different micro-catchment and macro-catchment techniques of water harvesting are recommended. This methodology can be utilized as decision-making tool for rwh practitioners, local and foreign organizations working on soil water conservation programmes and policy-makers during their early planning stages.

Groundwater can serve as an alternative measure to solve the scarcity in perennial water sources. In this perspective, a study has been carried out in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, for demarcating the most probable zone for groundwater source by an integrated application of geospatial and geophysical survey. The seven contributing factors (i.e. geology, geomorphology, drainage, landuse landcover (LULC), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), lineament, and slope are evaluated. Subsequently, an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is also carried out to normalize the weightage and rank of the individual factors, which are further overlaid using the Weighted Index Overlay (WIO) algorithm. The resultant groundwater potential was categorized into: extremely high (0.7%), high (54%), moderate (12.5%), low (21%), and extremely low (12%) potential zones. Each of this category is further validated by Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES-3) using Schlumberger electrode configuration and identified the most probable groundwater exploration zones towards the south-western parts of the study area. Thus, the study emphasizes on significant role of remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) in aggregation with the geophysical and statistical measures to delineate the most probable location for groundwater resources in the Himalayan region.
