The present study aimed to determine the optimal nitrogen dose that preserves soil mineralization properties. The evaluation managed for ammonium (NH4+), nitrate (NO3-) and mineral nitrogen (N min) concentrations under no-tillage (NT) and conventional tillage (CT) systems. The experiment was monitored in the greenhouse of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA) in Rabat, Morocco, using a vertisol soil type from Marchouch INRA station. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed a highly significant effect of sampling stage (stages 1,2,3 and 4; p < 0.001), and significant effects of nitrogen dose (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg/ha; p < 0.05) and tillage system (CT vs NT; p < 0.05). Several significant interactions between these factors were considered. The NH4+ concentrations were influenced by stage × tillage system × depth, stage × tillage system, and stage × dose interactions (p < 0.05). For NO3-, a significant stage × dose interaction was detected (p < 0.05), while for N min, a significant tillage system × dose interaction was found (p < 0.05). The recommended optimal dose is 50 kg/ha, which demonstrated a nitrogen mineralization efficiency of 63% at the 0–10 cm depth and 40% at the 10–20 cm depth under NT. Nitrogen doses exceeding 100 kg/ha resulted in substantial N min losses under both tillage systems. These results provide new patterns into the nitrogen dose-tillage systems interaction in vertisol soils, offering the first experimental quantification of N mineralization efficiency across wheat growth stages in Marchouch, Morocco.

To investigate the effect of high-energy nitramine explosives on the performance of mixed ester-nitramine propellants, a closed bomb apparatus and mechanical property testing instruments were used. The combustion and mechanical properties of mixed ester-nitramine propellants containing nitramine explosives and different particle sizes of RDX, as well as three different high-energy formulations incorporating RDX (propellants ZTH-1 and ZTH-2), HMX (propellant ZTA), and CL-20 (propellant ZTC), were evaluated. The results indicate that the burning rate (U) of mixed ester-nitramine propellants varies with the RDX particle size, with larger RDX particles leading to a higher U. The U values of the three different types of nitramine propellant samples follows the order: U(ZTC) > U(ZTH-2) > U(ZTH-1) > U(ZTA). For the three different types of nitramine propellant samples, the ZTH-2 propellant exhibited the lowest pressure exponent, while the ZTC propellant had the highest pressure exponent. The impact strength followed the order: ακ(ZTH-2) > ακ(ZTA) > ακ(ZTH-1) > ακ(ZTC). The ranking of the low-temperature drop-weight impact strengths at -40 °C was as follows: [ZTA] > [ZTH-2] > [ZTH-1] > [ZTC].

Ammonium perchlorate (AP), the main oxidizer for solid propellants, results in white smoke (HCl); which could induce acidic rain and could damage fertile soil. A chlorine-free oxidizer is highly valued for solid propellants. Ammonium nitrate (AN) emerges as a promising green oxidizer; however it exhibits low performance (i.e. specific impulse). The present work describes the synthesis of copper chromite nanoparticles (NPs) of 45 nm. Copper chromite NPs were synthesized through hydrothermal synthesis; the developed nanocatalyst was then integrated into an AN matrix. While virgin AN demonstrated a strong endothermic decomposition of +1707 J/g, catalyzed AN demonstrated a superior exothermic decomposition, with an enthalpy of -1492 J/g. A solid propellant formulation based on AN and copper chromite (CuCr2O4) was optimized using the Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) thermodynamic code via partial replacement of AP with AN. AN (30 wt.%) was found to decrease the smoke signature by 54.4%, with a minimum decrease in specific impulse. The solid propellant formulation was developed via mixing and vacuum casting. The ballistic performance was assessed using a small-scale ballistic evaluation rocket motor. The AN-based formulation demonstrated a stable combustion process with a slight decrease in the characteristic exhaust velocity and total pressure impulse of 4% and 4.8%, respectively. It may be concluded that a solid propellant with customized ballistic performance and low smoke signature has been optimized and developed.

Emissions from the sea transport sector are one of the major contributors to the climate change due to extreme dependency on fossil fuels. Environmental revolution has pushed shipping to focus significantly on the potential application of different cleaner fuels and sustainable source of energy solutions. The global shipping industry is considering alternative fuel options that meet economic feasibility and safety requirements. There is a variety of alternative fuel types available for shipping, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol, hydrogen, ethanol, ammonia and others. For many years, the advantages and disadvantages of using selected alternative fuels have been analysed from the point of view of sea transport costs. This paper presents the basic parameters for comparing different fuels, the characteristics needed to adopt alternative fuels in maritime transport. In addition, it provides an overview of the main technical challenges and drivers for the adoption of alternative marine fuels assessed through infrastructural, economic and environmental dimensions.

This article presents an analysis of similarities and differences in the approach to storing ammonium nitrate in conformity with NFPA standards, which apply not only within the United States, but also in plants or storage areas owned by US corporations where the provisions of these regulations are more restrictive than those of the local law. The procedures developed by NFPA are considered to be among the best in the world in terms of the complexity of the problem analysed and the range of studies on which they had been based, as well as on post-accident analyses related to fire safety, explosion risks and, above all, the problem of protecting people from the consequences of fires or other localised hazards.

Przedstawiono ocenę zagrożenia bezpieczeństwa procesowego wytwarzania i przechowywania nawozów o wysokiej zawartości dolomitu z dodatkiem azotanu(V) amonu. Do mieszanek nawozowych zastosowano dodatek lignosulfonianu sodu lub wapnia, który miał na celu ułatwienie i usprawnienie procesu granulacji. Obydwa dodatki silnie zwiększały zagrożenie bezpieczeństwa wytwarzania i pozostałych operacji z mieszankami zawierającymi azotan(V) amonu. Wysoka zawartość dolomitu nie niwelowała niekorzystnego działania lignosulfonianu sodu i wapnia. Badania wykonano metodą analizy DTA/TG.

Compositions of low-density foamed explosives based on ammonium nitrate (AN), surfactants and aluminum powder were obtained. The dynamic and physico-chemical characteristics of the foamed substances were determined and the influence of ultrasonic radiation on them researched. The dependence of the physical stability of foamed explosives on the effect of ultrasonics on AN was obtained and it was found that the greatest physical stability was achieved when treating AN with ultrasonic radiation for 4 min. The scheme of the device and the method of preparation of such low-density foamed explosives are described. The use of low-speed mechanical mixing of the surfactant solution and treatment with ultrasonic radiation and crushed AN with the addition of 3-4% of dispersed aluminum resulted in materials, which, after appropriate aeration, can be fed directly to the blasting site.

Obecnie najczęściej stosowanym i najskuteczniejszym sposobem ograniczającym zjawisko zbrylania jest natryskiwanie gotowego produktu (w postaci granul) substancją zapobiegającą zjawisku zbrylania, popularnie nazywaną antyzbrylaczem.

Ammonium nitrate is the main component of ammonium nitrate fertilizers. The most undesirable phenomenon that fertilizers based on ammonium nitrate undergo is the caking phenomenon. It changes the usable properties of fertilizers and this contributes to material losses and additional unnecessary costs. The tendency of the caking fertilizer results from its chemical composition, production method and storage conditions. The most frequently used and the most effective method reducing the caking phenomenon is spraying the finished product (in the form of granules) with an anti-caking agent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the various anti-caking agents available on the market for ammonium nitrate fertilizers. The paper proposes a method for assessing the effectiveness of anti-caking agents, which enables effective selection of anti-caking agent for various types of fertilizers. Therefore, this article is useful for scientists dealing with limiting the phenomenon of agglomeration of fertilizers.

Ammonium nitrate (AN) is considered to be a very hazardous and difficult to handle component of mineral fertilizers. Differential thermal analysis coupled with thermogravimetry and mass spectrometry was used to determine the possible inhibiting effect of selected magnesium compounds on thermal decomposition of AN. Each additive was mixed with AN to create samples with AN:magnesium compound mass ratios of 4:1, 9:1 and 49:1. Most of analyzed compounds enhanced thermal stability of ammonium nitrate, increasing the temperature of the beginning of exothermic decomposition and decreasing the amount of generated heat. Magnesium chloride hexahydrate was determined to accelerate the decomposition of AN while magnesium sulphate, sulphate heptahydrate, nitrate hexahydrate together with magnesite and dolomite minerals were defi ned as inhibiting agents.

Soil enrichment with heavy metals plays a significant role in soil pollution which led towards buildup/accumulation of heavy metals in edible crops. This situation causes severe threats to sustainability of ecosystem and humans health. Bioavailability of heavy metals can be restricted by the addition of immobilizing agents. Therefore, a pot experiment was carried out to evaluate the potential of zeolite i.e., ‘clinoptilolite’ as immobilizing agent to reduce the bioavailability of different heavy metals in soil. For this purpose, pots containing soil contaminated with different heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn) was treated with variable concentration of zeolite i.e., 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 g∙kg-1 along pots with no addition of ZL as control treatment and incubated for 30, 60 and 90 days. The effectiveness of the applied treatments was evaluated by single metal extraction method in soil using DTPA having 7.3 pH and NH4NO3. Results showed that soils treated with ZL exhibited significant increase in soil pH and CEC along reduction in concentration of metals (Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn) as compared to control soil. Among the different concentrations of ZL, the most promising results were achieved with ZL at 50 g∙kg-1 after 90 days of incubation. It was observed that soil treated with zeolite at 50 g∙kg-1 showed significantly higher contents immobilized DTPA and NH4NO3 concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn after 90 days of incubation when compared with control treatment. The trend of reduction in DTPA extractable concentration of heavy metals was in order of Cd < Pb < Zn 4NO3 was noticed as follow 16.09, 20.11, 23.83 and 38.37 % respectively but the trend of reduction was Cd < Pb < Zn < Cu. Therefore, reduction in concentration of heavy metals and their accumulation in the soil improved the soil quality. So the addition zeolites can significantly reduce the concentration of heavy metals in the soil although the reduction contents are not satisfactory for the production of food.

The use of ammonium nitrate due to its high nitrogen content (>26%) has made it the most utilizedfertilizer in agricultural areas. However, being easily accessible with this feature encouraged its use fordifferent purposes. Ammonium nitrate is usually produced with large tonnage (>50ton/h) and highcost (>$20million) production processes. Therefore, any changes that can be made in the processmust be applied in the process so that the result can be achieved easily without increasing the costin any way. In this study, it is aimed to reduce the explosion sensitivity of ammonium nitrate usedfor explosive purposes in terrorist attacks. Thus, it was aimed to solve the problem by adding variouschemicals to the ammonium nitrate production process so that it can only be used for agriculturalpurposes. For this purpose, the production process was examined by adding carboxymethyl celluloseand polyethylene glycol to the ammonium nitrate production process and the accuracy of the resultswas tested by instrumental analysis methods

Ammonium nitrate is the primary component used in the production of ammonium nitrate fertilizers. However, it has certain undesirable physicochemical properties such as hygroscopicity and phase transition at room temperature, which results in an undesirable phenomenon of caking. Caking changes the properties of the fertilizer thereby contributing to material loss. This, in turn, causes economic losses to both the manufacturer and the end-user. Anticaking agents are currently the most effective way to prevent fertilizers from caking. Finished granules of fertilizer are sprayed with anticaking agents in appropriate quantities, depending on the type of fertilizer and the anticaking agent. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of commercial anticaking agents for use with ammonium nitrate fertilizers (Salmag® and ZAKsan®) and to evaluate the compressive strength of fertilizer granules coated with the anticaking agent. We evaluated a method to test the effectiveness of anticaking agents, which enables the effective selection of appropriate anticaking agents for various types of fertilizers.

Azotan amonu to główny związek do produkcji nawozów saletrzanych.
