Plastics, or more precisely, polymers, have been utilized as construction materials for numerous decades. The broad range of plastic types results in a vast array of physical properties, consequently yielding a wide spectrum of practical applications. Significant advancements in materials engineering, manufacturing technology, and structural design call for the continuous enhancement of experimental research methods and the exploration of domains that are often regarded as conventional or standardized. The prevailing method for evaluating the mechanical properties of plastics is the static tensile test, which is conducted in accordance with established standards that meticulously delineate the test conditions and specimen preparation methodologies. While static tensile test results furnish valuable information, integrating them with dynamic test results facilitates a more precise evaluation of the structural material under examination. The objective of this study was to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the mechanical properties of film made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) subjected to static and dynamic loads, thereby enabling the formulation of more comprehensive conclusions about the tested plastic. The methodology entailed conducting experimental static and dynamic tests on samples of recycled LDPE film from this plastic. The experimental results obtained were used to develop a series of mechanical characteristics based on energy relationships. The integration of the outcomes from static tests with impact tests at varying strain rates and impact energies resulted in the identification of several pivotal indices and characteristics. The developed material and structure diagnostic indicators are imperative for future endeavors involving the utilization of LDPE and other unconventional materials as structural materials, particularly in structures designed for controlled mechanical energy dissipation. In summary, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanical properties of materials such as plastics is essential for optimizing their use in specific engineering applications. One critical area where static and dynamic material properties are essential is human safety. Protective measures, including helmets, harnesses, safety belts, and energy-absorbing mats, depend on precise knowledge of material properties.

Sporządzono kompozycje żywicy epoksydowej Epidian 6 sieciowane utwardzaczami utajonymi - kompleksami imidazoli [2-metyloimidazolu (2M) lub 2-etylo-4-metyloimidazolu (2E4M)] z kationami Cu(II) albo, w celach porównawczych, z kationem Mg(II) - bądź też nieskompleksowanymi imidazolami 2M albo 2E4M. Badano czas życia kompozycji i parametry cieplne charakteryzujące ich proces sieciowania, mianowicie entalpię i temperaturę maksimum efektu cieplnego. Użycie sieciujących kompleksów imidazoli z kationem Cu(II) podwyższa wspomnianą temperaturę o 35-49°C i powoduje nawet 30-krotne przedłużenie czasu życia kompozycji w temperaturze pokojowej. Określono też statyczne właściwości mechaniczne przy rozciąganiu i zginaniu odlewów z opisywanych kompozycji stwierdzając pewne pogorszenie tych cech w przypadku utwardzania kompleksami.

The compositions of Epidian 6 epoxy resin cured with latent hardeners: complexes of imidazoles [2-methylimidazole (2M) or 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole (2E4M)] with Cu(II) cations, or for comparison with Mg(II) cation and non-complexed 2M or 2E4M imidazoles (Table 1), were prepared. Pot lifetime and thermal parameters characterizing curing process, namely enthalpy and temperature of maximum heat effect (Table 1 and 2, Fig. 1) were investigated. The use of complexes of imidazoles with Cu(II) cation shifts this temperature upward 35-49°C and extends pot lifetime of the composition at ambient temperature even 30 times. Static mechanical properties at tension and bending of casts made of the compositions discussed were determined (Table 3 and 4). Shear strength of adhesive joints based on the compositions has been evaluated. Shear strength at room temperature does not depend on curing agent type. However, at temp. 120°C complexes of latent hardeners let reach much better shear strength than that caused by non-complexed imidazoles, especially 2M (Table 5).

Otrzymano kompozycje o wzajemnie przenikających się sieciach polimerowych typu semi-IPN złożone z nienasyconej żywicy poliestrowej (UP) i poliuretanu (semi-IPN UP/PUR).

Compositions consisting of mutually permeable semi-IPN type polymer networks were obtained, consisting of unsaturated polyester resin (UP) and polyurethane resin (PUR) (semi-IPN UP/PUR). Synthesis conditions of such systems were described, and a new method of PUR polyaddition in styrene (ST), which is also a UP component was presented. SEM allowed concluding that the investigated semi-IPN UP/PUR compositions are characterized by heterogeneous microstructure. Both PUR, as well as UP were able to form the dispersed phase, depending on chemical composition (Table 3); the matrix may be UP or a UP + PUR mix. DSC reported existence of three Tg values, corresponding to the ard and soft PUR and UP domains, indicated phase ncompatibility. Static and dynamic mechanical properties Figs. 3-8), i.e. tensile strength (sigma(r)), elongation at reak (epsilon(r)) and dynamic Young's elasticity module, are ignificantly affected by both PUR, as well as the ST present n the system. sigma(r) and epsilon(r) values decrease with rowing PUR content, but the effect ceases to be meaningful hen PUR content in the composition exceeds 10% by weight. ncreasing ST contents usually improve strength properties of amples. The dynamic elasticity modulus depends only on omposition, with structure of the PUR used (Table 2) being rrelevant.
