The paper presents the research concerning the potential for using powdery clinoptylolites for the sorption of water coloring compounds. The methylene blue solution with concentration 20 mg/dm3 was used as indicative pollutant. In order to remove the adsorbent with sorbed adsorbate, a coagulation process was used with the help of aluminium and iron coagulants. Cationic polyelectrolytes were used as coagulation assisting factor. Coagulation test with polyelectrolites only was also conducted. On the basis of the tests it was found that the optimum dose of clinoptylolite, for which the colour was removed in 99,5 %, was 6 g/dm3. The ferric chloride appeared to be a good coagulant and its optimum dose was 10 mg/dm3. The best colour removal effect were obtained at pH of purified solution within 5.5 - 7. The application of polyelectrolytes as coagulation assisting agents enable obtaining of satisfactory results at a lower dose of the basic coagulant. It was also shown that coagulants may be substituted with cationic polyelectrolytes.
