Method of research of logistic processes in hospitals
Improvement of logistic processes in healthcare organisations is perceived as: . - a potential source of savings from the economic point of view, - the way to increase the wide understood quality of services. Until now, some studies related to the topic were carried out but no one published any of research outcomes, which identified logistic processes and their organisation in polish health-care units. In order to analyse the efficiency of logistic practise, like other countries do, it is essential to execute research which would enable to collect and process statistical data. The analysis should make it possible to assess processes and formulate improvement proposals. The scope of the paper is to present one of the stages of the planned study - the questionnaire method. Its aim is to identify and characterise logistic processes realised in hospitals. The organisational (procedures and responsibility) and technical (infrastructure) aspects are taken into account. To specific conditions of hospital logistics functioning belong: - the lack of the logistics formal structure in healthcare units, - diversity and high specialisation of services, - restrictive requirements as regards safety of realised activities, - legislative regulations of healthcare operation. When speaking of hospital logistics we should consider efficiency of the goods and patients flow, and information stream during various phases of product flow in hospital. We propose to realise the research in a few stages: 1. Initial identification of the processes. 2. Specification of provisional assessing rates and preparation of the questionnaire on this base. 3. Carrying out the research. 4. Creating the ranking of the processes which are the most essential for organisation functioning. Until now, the two first steps are done and preliminary testing is planned to correct the questionnaire and its scope. The questionnaire is divided into seven parts, directed towards different receivers in points of the hospital, where information about the processes is available. Generally, there are a few groups of the data which we plan to get: - basic information, - cost information, - data about the employment, - procedures of logistic processes realisation, - product flow data, - technical infrastructure. Thanks to this data, it is possible to compare and assess the organisation of the flows in various hospitals and hospital units. The rating list of the processes and their characteristics should be the result of the research.
