EN Rape oil exposed to the process of alcoholysis changes into fatty acid methyl esters used as biofuel, which can replace diesel oil in diesel fuel engines. In the process of changing rape oil into fatty acid methyl esters glycerol and other products are received. These are valuable not only for the chemical industry but also for others industries. Thanks to oil extraction from rape seeds the pomace, valuable fodder for cattle, is obtained. Pomace accounts for 60 per cent of the mass of rape seeds exposed to the process of oil extraction. In 2001 in Poland sown area of rape covered 430 thousand ha, and the production of rape seeds accounted yield for 9680 thousand dt, with average 22.5 dt/ha. In the near future the area under rape will increase to 1 mln ha, with the increased of 30 dt/ha, and the approximate production of rape seeds 30 mln dt. Approximately 20 mln dt will be used to produce 5-6 mln dt of bio-fuel, which accounts for about 10 per cent of the demand for diesel oil. Also, approximately 18 mln dt of pomace or extracted meal, valuable fodder for cattle, is obtained.
