Wiedeń znajduje się w czołówce rankingów dużych miast o najwyższej jakości życia w sensie społecznym, ekonomicznym, politycznym i ekologicznym. Artykuł poświęcono rozważaniom nad strategicznym planem rozwoju miasta na przykładzie programu STEP 05. Program wyznacza krótko- i długoterminowe kierunki rozwoju miasta i ustala rozwój przestrzeni życiowej z naciskiem na ochronę środowiska. Najistotniejszym celem jest oszczędne gospodarowanie terenem, zwiększenie wykorzystania komunikacji przyjaznej środowisku i zagwarantowanie rozwoju rolnictwa na terenie miasta. Wiedeń - miasto oszczędne, rozumiane może być jako miasto zrównoważonego rozwoju całego regionu pod każdym względem.

Vienna ranks among top big cities with the highest quality of life in social, economic, political and ecological terms. This article presents strategic plans for the development of the city exemplified by the STEP 05 Program. It defines short- and long-term directions in the development of the city and determines the development of its living space with emphasis on environmental protection. The imperative purpose is to manage land in an efficient manner, to increase the use of environment-friendly transport and to guarantee the development of agriculture on the grounds of the city. The efficient City of Vienna may be understood as the city of the sustainable development of the entire region in every respect.
