Abstrakty
Results of scientific research into reading suggest that people perform some types of reading better if the substrate on which text is displayed retains a fixed spatial relationship to the text. For such types of reading, printed papers is a more effective display medium than a computer screen. Consequently, the function of conveying Information to the human eye will probably continue to be shared between printed paper and computer screens. The efficiency with which computers find and manipulate Information Is increasing substantially the amount of information to be displayed. The effect on the paper industry will be to increase overall demand, with the greatest growth being for high quality papers of rigidly consistent quality, in ready-to-use packages. Further research is needed to extend reading research to the most modern types of display.
